DX8 nvidia no water reflections?

Why is there no reflections in dx8 mode? I tried hl2 beta a long time ago and there was real time reflections with my ti4200? Does valve just want nvidia to be at a disadvantage against ATi? The water in aztec doesn't reflect the environment. I know it's capable of doing it

Because its a dx9 effect?
 
well i seen true reflections with my ti4200(dx8) in the hl2 beta?
 
Well you probably shouldn't be talking about the leaked HL2 content anyway.
 
but my question still stands unanswered? When i know it works, and valve just didn't want it to work?
 
That was an older version of the game.

Valve has disabled reflections with most DirectX 8 cards (apparently) to save the framerate.

100% sure your getting banned. No beta posts. Check if you have dx 9 installed.

really? they should make an option to allow real-time reflections :E

Go into the Game and bring up the console and type mat_dxlevel 81 and see what that does for ya it should work then if it doesnt try playing other maps with water because i know there is a big bug with De_aztec at the momment
 
Calhoun the water still reflects on the dx8 cards trust me ive tested 10 cards on Counter Strike Source and all of them reflect just De_aztec has a problem at the moment if you look at the debugging script when you playing de_aztec it's all messed up hopfully it will be fixed on the next update of CS:S
 
The water in Aztec dosen´t reflect anything on DX9 anyways.

Actually, they do depending on your DirectX level.

You can change this level but If your card is only supports DirectX 8 then a lot of the stuff isn't going to appear correctly and the real-time reflections will not work at all and may make the water look even worse.
 
I saw a thread the other day from a guy with a Ti4600 that took screenshots of all maps, the water definitely reflected. No entities though, but I am sure thats also possible.
 
Well, I'm not sure if this is what you wanted, but to get real time reflections in dx9 mode (I don't get 'em with my Ti4200) start up the game with the commands -dxlevel 90 -clipz 0, and when you start up the game type in the console mat_clipz 0. Hopefully, you should have real-time reflections now, although my performance halved. :(

This is what my water looks like right now.As you can see, it's not reflecting anything.If i turn on mat_dxlevel 90, my water is invisible but when i shoot it i still see splashes. I've got a fx5900
 
umm... i think i can point something weird out and clever?
firstly do u think that the lighting on the water is kinda off :D ?
and have u see mud water that reflects :p really its not clean water what comes from sewers xD might post a picture of another map with clear water plz ^^. And i think the reflect in aztec is supposed to be like that :p. As far i've seen the water reflects if it can if u get the idea. When ur in a tunnel, water wont reflect, why? well no lights to reflect. and when water is really like mud, it wont really reflect anything but shit.
wasn't the source supposed to be as realistic as possible. i Hate the source for one thing... for reflecting too much sometimes and sometimes when i wanted to see THROUGH the water. i havent played the cs:s so thats my point view from hl2 binks and cracked cs:s beta. ;D
 
I am sure it does reflect. This is what i do in console.
mat_dxlevel 90
fog_water_enable_fog 0

Now i see reflections in aztec but I lag a lot
Same thing in chateau
