Dynamics of Multiplayer.

I still wonder what the big thing is over the MP aspect. That one guy posted on here that it's nearly unlimited, like 500 people. That could be, and I'm will to bet, a dynamic fabrication. Especially considering polygon counts,...so let's scratch that. Perhaps it's Aliens vs. Humans, like Halo 2. That would be quite cool. I know there's no great reason for speculation, so don't flame me about this, but it's fun to imagine what it'll be like. Takes my mind off of the current situation...It's also something that no-good, thieving hacker didn't get, leaving it more mysterous than the Single Player incarnation.
Anybody think they've got it?

and i have experienced that firsthand by wasting my money on the pc version this past week

no they dont have the multi...and if they do they wont get it to work
 
I meant, do any of you think what it'll be like. I don't care if the MP comes out with the game. I'm just curious about it. Something to talk about, other than the beta.

yah....just imagine playing DoD2 with 250 ppl on one team and 250 ppl on ther and play on omaha beach. OMG THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!!
 
no computer for at least 2 more years could do that
 
ok well halo is a great game....only thign that sucks is the FOV. but it seems impossible for there to be. of course it'd have to be over lan... 500 people in one server online....yeah right but who knows. Valve could find a new way to play multiplayer unlimited like that although i seriously doubt it.

HL2 multiplayer will have alot of custom maps I will make for it including updated version of some of my earlyer works done for HL1! I'm also thinking about making a recreation of an entire theme park with rollercoasters you can ride in and other types of rides that take advantage of HL2's physics. Image the funhouse I could make with mirror rooms using intuitive placements of camera entities with walls configured as screens!

One guy was talking about a RTS-like "command mode" like NS has. But I'm pretty sure he was talking a load of crap.
 
Finally, a worthwhile topic!

I'm hopin that Half-Life 2's multiplayer will have some massive levels. Soldier of Fortune 2 had lots of players but small levels. You'd have 64 players and it would just be a huge mess. But it would be pretty sweet to have a massive war going on and then you and a buddy hop in a buggy and just blast through their front line of defense.

The possibilities are truly endless...
 
HL2 MP will be just like HL1 multiplayer. You find the biggest gun and own everyone that gets near it.

TF2, and any other packaged mods are a different story :)

Have you played HLDM :p?

I'd say HL2 will ship with default deathmatch, and maybe/probably a couple of mods. Maybe HL1 mods ported to HL2 but not modified much, ie CS1, DMC, Ricochet. Maybe a mod developed by another team too (wild guess threewave). Just possibilities from what I've seen so far.

I reckon one of the newer Cray seiries supercomputers with gigabit optics between some other top end PC's could do it.

However, the client PC's must be able to handle the maximum statistical players that can be in your field of vision, at any one time, or else they would be overloaded. which would be quite a bit, yet not 499, since that would require efforts to make a wall of people, which I doubt is going to happen.


I remeber Quake Multiplay had no limits on it, youd get 50 player Quake servers and that was when people were oohing and ahhing over 28.8k technology. (and leeching off dial-in BBS's)

Not to mention if someone started grenade spamming it lagged to a point where it seemed to be a rain of grenades coming down.

I'm hoping HL2 has small to medium sized maps (thinking of clan matches) - with objectives to complete. I'm sick on DM and TDM. If it has to be CTF atleast replace the flag with something believable (secret docks or something :) )

Ideally there'd be classes, although I think TFC2 will be the one for this.
 
I like giant maps. As long as there's as large enough populace. I wouldn't mind having a closed of version of the Dead Sea level. That would be quite the awesome event, 100+ teams, duking it out. Imagine just how much the physics will effect the gameplay. The kill limit would be staggering though, which I don't mind, because I slaughter my friends in QIII Arena. Though that game has no substantial gameplay, it's nice to go back to the old days of shooting everything. A shooting gallery with style. Anyway, I hope some of our speculation pays off and we get a dynamis MP aspect, once it's released.

I will guess and say it will have (besides your regular run of the mill DM)

Team based objectives.
Interactive Enviorments.
Different weapons (from single)
Larger Complex maps = more people (no moe then 64)
and Sharks with fricking lasers on their heads.
