Word on the street says there's new Dystopia info out there. So you crack your knuckles. Load up. Jack in. Peel the sleep-skin from your eyes and stare gazeless past the ghosts of corporate commandments into the info-ocean, the infinite field of sound, light, heat, noise, taste, touch: epileptic razors in the brain, a thousand towers rippling in the electric breeze; a thousand eyes on rainslick mirrored glass, a thousand windows to a thousand souls. Breathe it all in and remember: "When you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." So ask yourself - are you using the internet...or is the internet using you?[br]

[br]This is Dystopia, only Dystopia has more guns and shooting and is probably more fun than all this existential cyber-navel-gazing and purple prose. Right now, the team is working on the full 'Version 1' and today they decided to show off what they've done. Here today for your delectation: the new Punk heavy, two wonderful wallpapers, a huge (huge) concept art piece and some nice in-game screenshots of new maps. The Dystopia beta is already out: complex, rewarding and a blast to play - I highly recommend it. Download the current version or just read up by clicking here.[br]Click here to view that big piece of concept art I mentioned.

Dystopia might be worth trying again, mainly because of the sheer awesomeness of sulkdodds news post. This thread alone has taken us all to a new realm of wonder and excitement, can the latest version of dys possible hope to match that? Only downloading it will reveal the answer.

Just..incredible.

What was the quote from in your opening paragraph? Or did you just make it up? :p

the new player model looks cool.

-dodo

wow, i'm actually considering downloading it again

Fun to play here and there so i will check out the new version. New model looks kickass.

Damn thats a really awesome newspost, makes me want to try it out.

the guys behind dystopia are by far the more 'pro' moders out there, no offence to the other mods, it's just that when you play the game, you actually feel like you could have been charged for it, the models look solid, the animations spot on and the rest just right. I haven't played it for a while but I sure will get back to it when the update comes out.
Did they mention anything about vehicles ??

well that's a matter of opinion. some of us consider modding to be about how interesting and innovative a game is, rather than how polished it is. not to say i don't like things that are mostly rehashed, but i side with valve here.

the only downside I can see on these screenshots would be the poor textureuse in the maps, airco systems are still on the textures, and nothing seems alligned.

well those maps

Those maps, injection and abandon are still in the beta phase so we dont expect them to look perfect

gameplay over graphics people! anyone here ever hear of GTA!

Another one of those "great concept, impressive visuals, nice website but poor execution" mods.

poor execution wtf are you talking about this is the only mod i still play !

I'd also disagree with 'poor execution'.

If you call slick, fun, compulsive, tactical and skillful team-based play with the brilliance of cyberspace and co-ordinating cunning assaults between two realities 'poorly executed' then...well, actually, I guess it's your own concern. But still.

not surprised you'v said that Simon lol, off-limit is known for having some beautiful maps made by people who really pay attention to details (again one mod which Im sure will look very 'polished')

oh, ok :)
well great work on the rest so.. :imu:

There's sure as hell a lot of polishing going on in this thread, one way or the other. :p

If you're not entirely convinced and you don't mind waiting for a 135mb video with music that'll probably have your dad shout up the stairs for you to "Turn that racket down, Humphrey!" to finish downloading, this could well be the link for you.

...Gtfo.

Yeah. This mod is one of the best mods for halflife2. Unlike other mods the player base still remains constant

Just played a quick 30 minute round...

And damn, this game is hectic.
Stealthie rushes, with heavies following behind unleashing their spider-bomb armies upon our hopeless base...

Only to pwn their firewalls and turrets and win the day!

yeah ive been playing all day so far ive lost one game and won everyother one :p im so hot at this and i keep agetting best medium player award we should set up a hl2.net forum games sometime so i can pwn all you!

hes right, but hopefully maps will have better gameplay then visuals then in the first release. Then again, fortress is a pretty ugly map

Looks like sick work again from these guys :)
Good stuff, should help me find my way to a few more Dystopia games again.

I agree with the poor execution guy. It's kinda boring, but there's obviously a lot of work been put into it. It's just not what I want from modding.

Yes! I'm glad someone made that joke, or I would have lost faith in the internet.

what would you have perfered to play? a ww2 mod? counter terrorist vs zombie terrorist? ww2 mod with zombies? something related to zombies? :p

I love this mod, but I don't play too much multiplayer at the moment sadly... Always used to fire it up whilst having System Shock mp3s playing in the background. Unsurprisingly, they fit very well :p

In America admins ban you. In Soviet Russia, you ban admins!

is that dogs head on his back?

honestly though, ive been watching this mod for a while now, but these screens are the best indication and the first time i can say it honestly looks like a professional quality mod. damn i wish these talented mods would take their models and animations and make some great single player experiences for us.

Not to advertise, but they did mention an interest in single-player in the HCU's interview with them not too long ago.

yes, i believe our exact words were

Only if an angel investor took notice, and is interested in funding the team to do a full stand alone single player game. If this is you, please email me: [email protected]

unfortunately, singleplayer for nextgen takes a lot lot more content to make it than multiplayer

only issues i got with this mod is that you can't replenish armor and nades.

also a lot of the weapons don't quite feel right to me.
