So, you've watched the Matrix, surfed the internet for endless hours, read about the world of Cyberpunk and dreamt of what it would be like to delve into a Tron-like Virtual Reality. I'm sure the one thing you haven't done, however - is dive into this world for yourself; into a computer generated three-dimensional representation of a network. [br] [br] Enter Dystopia. While the concept has already been realised many times before, no game has successfully managed to intertwine a gritty realistic city world, with a virtual reality that players can hack inside at any time. Not in a seamless world- in a multiplayer environment. Dystopia is truly ambitious, and that’s why the prospect of an early build release so soon is exciting. [br]

[br]By all means, if you don’t already know about this great mod, visit the Dystopia website. Want to see it in action? Download the stunning Teaser Video.

Silly Suicide did not know what Cyberpunk was. :p

I live there. :borg:

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

Next week is going to be the best week ever.

Haha, hell yes. Calc and Physics are taking a back seat to this next week.

Disrobe reality like a worn coat for this world between worlds, this no-man's land warmed by electrical currents. Let the information flood you; let it overwhelem your senses - but these are chasms of neat data, binary fluxes, landscapes of pure code. You're everywhere and you're nowhere. The question is, what do you seek? What is your Holy Grail, your Nirvana, your Golden Fleece? They say a revolution is coming; but the smart ones, the wired, know it's already here.

:borg:

Holly shniekies!
And a day before my birthday as well.
What a wonderfull present, thank you Team Dystopia.

Wish I could say the same... :(

Well, I was joking since I'll probably be doing homework for the next nine months solid too.

But that's what weekends and vacations are for, right?

I grabbed this from the site...

It's been an incredible 2 years since the Dystopia project was kicked off and as you can imagine everyone who's played a part is extremely eager to see what the gaming public's reaction is to it.

I wouldnt say that a first public release two years after they started is that soon! However on a lighter note I am looking forward to trying this one out although I pray it doesnt suffer the same fate as HL2 and has been over hyped to such an extent that it can never reach the expectations of its fanbase.

I meant "so soon" as in 7 days time, but if you think about it, 2 years isn't that long anyway considering the sheer amount of work that's gone into this mod. Most mods are only getting released around now, and if you think about ones like The Hidden, while they ARE great they're also incredibly simple. Dystopia is massive.

YAY!

Release date, 16 days from my 14th birthday!

Yay! 19 mins. previously. ;)

This will be the best total conversion mod for HL2 currently available.

btw. They are looking for mirrors for the file for release day, so if you can organise something, contact them please!

Invisible people I assume is The Hidden? I don't really call that a total conversion.

I don't know why you wouldn't call The Hidden: Source a total conversion... all the models are different... although it does use a lot of the same textures. And Plan Of Attack is a total conversion.

Although this *should* be better than both of those.

...

We have organised for 98 mirrors with various providers from North America, New Zealand, Middle East, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa.

well total conversions tend to have changes to nearly everything about the original game. Which dystopia's seems to have done (won't know for sure till we all actually play).

I normally wouldnt reply, but I got to defend what I work on. An inspection of our site will show anyone we have new models and textures all round, and a heap of original levels. Im not sure what constitutes a TC, and im not too concerned either, just had to set the record straight there. Anyway, im not derailing or hijacking this thread, so on with Dystopia talk. Im looking forward to it, hope its as much fun as the dev team made it out to be.

So its just a demo thats getting released.
I was starting to think it was the full mod :(

But a demo is better than nothing!

Team Dystopia Announce Demo Release Date!

We are aiming to release the demo before 11:59pm GMT on 9th of September 2005.

I have played it... it's just I wasn't staring at the textures when I was playing. I know there're all the maps which were made, and the models. I just didn't know if the textures were default or custom ^_^

The Hidden and Plan of Attack are total conversion mods.

Its not because they use HL2 textures they are not TCs. Dystopia is also going to use some(minor) HL2 stuff.

I bet the demo will be just as good and just as full as any other mods released recently, which is why I said "early build" :p

I think it's only a "Demo" release as opposed to the final release, which will obviously contain more.

You could have put it in the title :p

I've been watching many mods now, but Dystopia is just something that doesn't fit the bill with me. I see a lot of people getting hyped up, but I can't seem to find why. I've never played the Tron games, but I loved the movie. Overall, Dystopia just doesn't do it with me, it doesn't appeal to me as a lot of other modifications do.

Either way, I am sure it'll be great: its just not what I am look for in a MP mod.

It just looks so different to anything i've played before. That automatically gets my attention. Love trying new games.

the game looks amazing and i cant wait for it. my only reserve for it, is the learning curve. it seems to me like it will be so complex that ill never get the hang of it. with so much to do, it seems like a daunting task. however, this is the same way i felt about bf2, and i caught on to that quite fast.
