Dystopia Reveals Cyberspace

Dystopia is one of the most anticipated modifications currently in development. The Dystopia Team has visited VALVe's headquarters and playtested their mod with some of VALVe's key players. [br]
One of Dystopia's most unique features is that it offers the chance for a player to select the Cyberdeck implant to use realworld terminals to jack into cyberspace (think Matrix). The team describes Cyberspace like this:

This environment is made up of two parts; network links and network nodes. In the screenshot below you can see the blue links and the green, yellow and red nodes. Each node houses controls for various things in the realworld, such as security doors, lifts, turrets and force fields.

They have created a video showcasing Cyberspace in Dystopia. You can grab it at one of these two links:[br]
Filefront.com[br]
Moddb[br]

Ohh,Ahh!
Looks like it's straight out of TRON.
I love these guys.Top notch stuff and they even let us see it. :)

Whoa! This is going on my PC for sure! /me drools

TRON? No, this is lifted straight from System Shock. Not that that's a bad thing. ;)

Hmm, movement could use some work. Looks spectacular all the same!

I just realized that in the dystopia teaser (came out a while ago; beginning of june, I believe), it shows a bit of cyberspace.

Very cool though.

This looks like an exciting mod; looking forward to this one :D

As per usual this mod is looking and sounding dope!

Wow, that video was trippy as hell.

It looks complicated in terms of movement.
Hope the mod comes with a tutorial.

No, this is lifted straight from Shadowrun.

Ha!

Maybe the 10th re-release of Shadowrun. Maybe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Shadowrun from the 80s, or at least very early 90s? I know they're doing a 4th (or is it 5th?) new edition soon.

Also, there were two Shadowrun videogames released. One on the SNES, the other on the Genesis/Megadrive. Pretty sure both of those are pre-1994.

I am a tester for Dystopia and it is pretty easy to move around in. You just gotta understand the basic principles that there is no "real" gravity in cyberspace. It is quite easy to pick up and you get used to it pretty quick.

It looks interesting to say the least... you can run on the "ceilings" and "walls"?

Neuromancer: 1984 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer

I haven't read it in a while, but I remember Gibson describing cyberspace/the matrix as giant cubes like in this game. I guess they've used stuff from loads of cyberpunk stuff though and made their own thing out of it.

Im totally looking forward to it

cyberpunk ftw

I await the twin blessings of Dystopia and Hostile Planet. Life is good.

I'm sure that gravity shift is just a click of a button, other than that it's just running forward.

Beat me to it. :p

Yeah, this is a lot like Gibson described, different shapes being different systems etc. ****ing rocks! :D

geez thats an insane mod. this along with fortress forever (maybe) and plan of attack are what im looking forward to. but this is still the best mod so far in my opinion. the movement in the cyberspace is kickass. of course anything has room for improvement, so i cant wait to see how much better it'll be when its finished.

good job

First Edition Shadowrun was released in 1989.
The SNES version of the game was released in 1993 and the Genisis version in 1994.

For some reason, that game reminds me of the movies Cube, HyberCube, and the 3rd Cube movie that was a prequal.

Yeah, cyberspace in Dystopia appears to draw a lot of influence from Neuromancer, though in the novel, cyberspace is not as colorful and it's much more open and vast.

Cube Zero. I absolutely love all three of those movies.

No, the gravity shifts when you follow a grey path onto a "wall". No clicking buttons.

Well spotted! I actually just finished reading Neuromancer on the plane before i built this version of cyberspace, alot of the aesthetics are based on Gibson's descriptions of the matrix.

shit, you can't make anything cyberpunk, be it game, movie, book, whatever, without it being influenced by Neuromancer and William Gibson.

You do realize that TRON (the movie, not the game) predates System Shock by just over a decade.

I actually managed to have a play with the game for about an hour at the independent game dev conference. Got to play a basic “capture” game type where you had to defend certain objects and move back if one of them was destroyed. Cyberspace is actually quit interesting, you must chose the option of being able to “hack” before you select your gun (there are also others like thermal vision or invisibility). It’s possible that at the stage I saw the game at the feature was not fully complete as I found myself simply running in a very cool neon world until I was shot at the consol and died. But I had some fun battles inside cyberspace. The game is very cool with a rocket launcher that has a TV screen attached to it so you can fly it along walls. Can’t wait for the release.

very, very impressive stuff guys. keep up the good work.

This mod will be insane. CANT WAIT.
