I didn't realise they were working on splintercell3 for the pc so early! Thats a good sign! The multiplayer might actually be worth it this time.

*interesting, check this out at the bottom of the page*

"Note on eligibility: Judges were given the option of "hands-on" gameplay time with all nominated games. Games shown in non-playable form were not eligible for awards."

Did the judges get to play HL2??? I thought it was pre-recorded...

There was a pre E3 show for the press to play the levels the magazines played.

Yeah Splinter Cell 3 will be awesome. I have 1 and 2. :) I beat both of them. :) Can't wait for the 3rd one.

best game 2003 2004 2005.....release HL3 .....

best MP Game Team Fortress 2 2005

best action game 2005 CS2 :E

I have a feeling HL2 won't win any of those.

Same here. Splinter cell 3 and halo 2 will rack up the most awards, I reckon.

HL 2 should have gotten nominated for the best online game. Just look at how much the original and its mods are being played online today! 5 years later!

We dont yet know anything at all about HL2 online mode, and if it's just CS:S, DOD:S and TFC:S then you can bet your ass it wont be winning any awards.

Too bad the developers of SC3 are going to not be original and make a clone team for multiplayer, 2 spies against 2 mercs yay....so boring. Why can't they be creative and try to make 2 spies against 10 terrorists work? Or 2 groups of 2 spies against 15 terrorists? I have a lot of good ideas on how to make it work...maybe I will make a mod...if I could lol.

you mean the original half-life, HL2 hasn't even released yet...

That's what he said ... however yeah, u made the right point - u can't give a game an award just because the original had excellent (community-made, esp.) online play!

I'm rooting for at least 2 of the 3 awards to be won myself - s'pose it depends on how much the judges got to play, in many ways!

and by the way.. it isn't always the GFX in the game that counts.. cuz i tried Halo 1 and it was goddamn BORING.. and HL1 wasn't..

halo 1 was hardly spectacular looking.

i nearly had an anurism with the fantastical 1 frame a freaking second playing that POS.

(gets 100fps in BF1942 and 60 in BF:V)

Anyway

RTW Best PC game
HL2 best action
RTW best strategy.

Hmmm, I'd suggest you either buy some new hardware or work on your configuration. Halo never gave me any framerate problems and I played on max graphical detail.

That said I didn't like the game. I even reinstalled it last week to give it another shot and man is it boring...

Care to read the bit you left out of your quote?

its not my P4 2.8 gig athlon with a 9600 pro and 1 gigabite of ram in it thats fubar.

its that shitty half assed late convertion of halo.

Which certainly explains why it doesn't cause problems for the majority of other users...

And 100fps in BF1942 is not all that impressive.

Lets see: Halo 2 will suck ass, just like its predecessor. The DS and PSP were cool, but were not Earth shattering. SC3 looks cool, but not THAT great.

HL2 is GOD.

I think it may get an award, but I don't think it will get the Best of Show award. The real awards are when the games get reviewed anyway. When Valve check out gamerankings.com and see their game getting 95% average scores, that will give them the best sense of accomplishment I reckon.

2002 was Doom 3's year, 2003 was HL2's year, I'm betting this year they'll give Doom 3 the awards again heh.

What was this year's Doom 3 presentation? Wasn't it just a video of the X-Box version?

who cares about the awards it gets before it is released, E3 awards generally don't impress me, they just confirm what hype there is. It's when the game is released and it earns a million best game awards (ahem HL1) that HL2 is proved to be mister kick arse.

Yeah I think it was just an Xbox video.

Rupert, check out the panel of judges, these are the same guys will give out those "million" awards you're talking about later.

Best Simulation Game
The Sims 2
(Maxis/EA Games for PC)

Urgs...

Best Strategy Game
The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth
(EALA/EA Games for PC)

LMAO...

Best Online Multiplayer
Halo 2
(Bungie Studios/Microsoft for Xbox)

Soo... urmmm yeah...I made an appointment for the doctor's, I keep having weird sensations, it's like my nervous system has gone wrong. Today I could have sworn a game for a console won best online multiplayer.

None of those games are even on my "looking forward to" list :/

What was so spectacular about Halo 2 then? Can anyone show me anything from that presentation that was never seen before?
It didn't even show singeplayer action as far as I know, so isn't just 'Best online game' enough? Why the hell did it also get Best Shooter?

LOTR best RTS? The o so original SC3 best
There's no arguing about taste, it's just that these guys simply have none.

heh, did you notice that all of these games are published by big publishers (EA/ubisoft/mircrosoft). Looks like this time around game critics were more intrested in the big names...and come on Rome: total war deserved the best strategy game - even a little boy blindfolded with his arms tied around his back can tell that.

It's weird because in 2003 Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 were nominated for best action game. Half-Life 2 won.

In 2004, they were both nominated again and Halo 2 won.

Weirdness.

Hehe. I can't believe it myself, and it's Halo...

Holy mother of f*cking god.

LOTR's got best strategy....

Gamescriticsawards.com know f*ck all about games.

and HL2 got no awards either....

this has to be a joke right?

You might want to actualy read peoples opinions on halo, pick up any PC magazine and they all quite blatantly say it runs like a pig on the majority of computers, hell the X800pro only gets like 60 frames a second according to gamershell IIRC.

100fps in bf1942 not impressive? are you stoned.

You dont have 2 retarded cousins who are complete Halo2 whores living 50 feet away from you.

Im going to have to keep hitting them till they shut the hell up again.

Do no-one tell you?! The calender has been readjusted and it's April 1st! April fool!!!
