hey all

just read this interview with gabe regarding hardware in hl2:

What system was the E3 demonstration video played on?

Gabe Newell: Dell XPS, 2.8 GHz P-IV, ATI Radeon 9800 128 MB RAM. Anti-aliasing off, anisotropic filtering off. 60 FPS.

and just watch the video...pure perfection.

discuss.

Hehe, this is very old news. :)

But as you can see that 9800 pro is perfect for the job.

"old news is so exciting"

this made me very happy again

E3 2004?

Funny because ATi were promoting their new vid card: X800 :p @ E3 2004 and HL2 just running on a 9800pro

Thats the same computer as mine... wow... OLD NEWS STAMP GOES HERE!

What resolution was the demo running at though ?

yeah it was E3 2004
It must have been 2003, because Gabe already said that they were using an x800 Pro in the machine at 2004.

There was more than just 1 booth though.

It wouldn't really make sense to have a 9800 Pro at one booth, and the x800 at another, be it the ATi or Valve booth.

True...
But then again we never know who arranges this stuff.

I remember Gabe saying it was for E3 2003.

And I didn't know anisotropic was turned off, that must be why it looks cruddy in the binks :p

Although if you want to crank up AA and AF the X800 is the card for the job.
