E3 Next Week

It's really funny how some people seem to think that they are the only person on the planet who use yahoo.
Ep 3 should be shown. If not it will be something very familiar... I think it would amazing if they bring in Adrian Shephard again... am I the only one who is curious to know what happened to him after opposing forces?

Yes. You are.
He's preserved. He's not official storyline, according to Valve.

Not you. Expansion packs are cannon, unless someone say they're not.

Here is the list of possible stuff Valve will talk about

Episode 3- Definately

Portal 2- Maybe

Counterstrike 2- Probably not, but hoping

Team Fortress 2 future content- Damned if I am the only one who wants to know more about the titles future

Source Engine- New Technologies, promoting latest iteration of the engine

Steamworks- Yet to see if CSS will get the treatment

MMO/RPG project- Probably wont see anything concrete, but interesting to find out if this will be their next project after release of Ep3

Considering how many people would be pissed off if not even a drop of info leaked during it, they sure as hell better tell us SOMETHING.

Just imagine the Steam forums, they would whine SOOO much that Valve would give in and show us something, like when they gave in for the milestones for TF2.

As much as I would love to see the reveal of Episode 3, I would equally love to see them not even mention it - the anger and disappointment of the fanbase would be hilarious. Perhaps then we'd finally be justified in purging the SPUF community from existence; their stupidity ultimately breaking all known records.

Guys I don't visit regularly so don't kill me if this has already been posted, but a friend gave me this rather old news:

With Half-Life 2: Episode 2 having been released just last year, it's a safe bet that we won't be seeing Gordon Freeman in a new game anytime soon. But just long will we have to wait? Well, according to Doug Lombardi, Valve's VP or marketing, it will be quite a while.

"The next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between Half-Life 2 to Episode One, and Episode One to Episode Two," he told Kikizo. And as for releasing any news about the game, Lombardi teased, "We may at the very end of the year."

Using Lombardi's math, we can estimate that the third Half-Life 2 episode won't be ready until around 2010 (HL2 was released in 2004, while HL2:E2 didn't hit until last year). Valve is a developer that is infamous for it's long development cycles, but like most similar companies, is also renowned for its quality, so the wait shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Let's just hope that Episode 3 reaches the same level of quality that the previous games in the series did.

I don't mind Valve bringing something up be it Portal 2, Ep 3 or some continuation of Opposing Force. Whatever Valve makes, I'll probably like it. :)

I'd be pissed if it was nothing at all though.

This.

Pretty much everything Valve has done has gotten at least an average score of 90% from game reviewers, so its a safe bet to say whatever it is they're cooking up, chances are its worth whatever wait there is.

True, but the Half Life series IS what has made Valve famous throughout the PC gaming industry, (except Orange Box on X-Box 360.), so it is by far their "top of the line" or "top shelf" product they produce. It is the one that a large fan base waits for later installments.

IMO it would be a horror for them not to show HL2: EP3, because if they didn't, it would show as if they lost interest in the series, and want to experiment with things like Portal 2, which IMO is GREAT, but it just isn't "it".

Since I want them to continue to make high quality single-player and multi-player games, life TF2 and HL2.

And yes I am a HL fanboy.

So what IPs do Valve have?
Half-Life 2: Episode Three
Portal 2
TF2 and L4D updates
Day of Defeat 2
Counter-Strike 2
Ricochet 2
And there's the hundred to one shot of Valve reviving Prospero, or, shock-horror, a new IP. Am I correct in saying that the only original IPs Valve have are Half-Life/Quiver, Portal (which is in the HL universe and would not have arrision without hiring the Narbacular Drop team) and Prospero (undeveloped).

He doesn't say they're canon or not.
Because it's not as simple as that. Some things in the expansions came from Valve and some things came from Gearbox.
Since Valve is willing to ignore any or all of the Gearbox stuff in my mind it means that anything that didn't come from Valve isn't canon (Valve not caring = not official = non canon) unless they make use of it later.

Things get tricky because while some things are clearly introduced by Gearbox (Race X) and some we've learnt were by Valve (Nuking of Black Mesa, the fleshed out Xen-relay teleport experiments) there is a lot of grey area that we don't know about.

That doesn't mean you can't accept OP4, BS and Decay into your personal canon, especially since AFAIK nothing Valve has done has been contradictory to the expansions. Just don't expect Race X, Shepherd, Rosenburg or Barnacle Guns to appear in Ep3 or beyond. And don't get too shocked if something in the future strongly contradicts any events in the expansions.

Of all those I would be most upset if they showcased TF2 or L4D updates as the "main attraction". They update those games all the time, sometimes with major gameplay changes or additions (i.e., Survival mode for L4D), and as I've stated before somewhere it hardly takes them an appearance at E3 to showcase those updates. My bet is that we get a ton of new Steam features and a peek at Episode Three. In a couple of months it'll be two years since the release of the Orange Box, and apart from a few pieces of concept art Valve has not released one piece of media or update. A developer as business savvy would realize the potential of making people wait, while still realizing that making people wait too long is detrimental to hype and anticipation. Valve never fails to make a showing of its distribution service when it gets the chance, and I doubt that Portal 2, DOD2, CS2, and especially Ricochet 2 or Prospero are close to being developed enough to be displayed at E3, if they're even in existence at all. The HL series is Valve's premier series, and if they had half a brain they would focus on Episode Three now that L4D is complete. I know that a separate team has been at work on Episode Three for some time now, but since AFAIK no completely new games are on the table (besides rumors), more manpower can be brought to bear on Episode Three.

Except that Gabe's stated he likes Adrian Shephard and will eventually get back to him.

They're just going to talk about business models and what Gabe had for lunch.

Yes, but even if Gabe brought his lunch with him in a black mesa branded briefcase (which will be purchasable through Valve Store soon), I would still be sold.

Besides, Valve seems to be able to talk business models with much enthusiasm, that its no surprise that Peter Molyneux managed to get his job role as an monotonic accountant screwed up

They don't ignore anything, they simply don't want to use (because of design decisions) previous content (i.e. Bullsquids/Houndeyes) they created for their games. There's only one canon, and all expansions are part of it.

And don't get too shocked if something in the future strongly contradicts any events in the expansions.

You know they can't do that, right? It would be like burning their own body.

And there's the hundred to one shot of Valve reviving Prospero,

Considering Prospero was suppose to have radically different gameplay mechanics to other FPS, I wouldn't be surprised if several aspects of that project gets used in Portal 2

A protagonist with a Portal Gun and Psionic Powers; sweet

Thing is we will know by tuesday
They have been putting a lot of resources right now into EP 3 so logically we should be seeing something on ep 3

Ricochet 2

Lord, I have never been a praying man. But if you can hear me...

Just don't expect...Shepherd...to appear in Ep3 or beyond
Did you completely miss my post with the e-mail from Gabe Newell saying they will eventually get back to Adrian Shephard? Haven't you heard Doug Lombardi say they'd like to use Shephard again because the character is not only a fan favorite, but also Valve liked the idea for him when the idea for OpFor was pitched?

Valve likes Adrian. The fans like Adrian. We will see Adrian again.

I dunno, I guess I'm general in waiting for E3 news.

Don't tell me that the L4D2 demo is the big kahuna they were talking about...

By the time you read this, Valve will have announced the existence of Left 4 Dead 2 at Microsoft's E3 press conference. So any thoughts? Have the abandoned ep3?
Honestly it really pisses me off, i rather play ep3 than left4dead
again... I ask.. any thoughts?

I couldn't agree more. Half Life 2 series is Valve's classic. Please, I don't want another Left 4 Dead.

WAIT WAIT WAIT..: What if Left 4 Dead 2 was bundled with Half Life 2 EP3 in a "Orange Box" type thing, it happened before, it could be the multi-player part of it.

Apparently there is still hope for an Episode Three trailer or something, so let's hold on til EA's time.

Calm the **** down everyone, this is pre-E3 press conferences,

This is for ep3 stuff man...

Don't worry I'm sure Episode Three will be announced tomorrow.
Or the next day...
Maybe Orange Box 2, if Portal 2 and Episode 3 come with L4D2?

But then Valve already gave a release date for L4D2 (Nov 17th) so probably not.

Exactly what I was thinking, this could be tomorrow's big announcement, but Nov. 17 could be the release day for the new "Orange Box"

come on people lets be realistic here
portal 2 and episode 3 to be released as a new orange box with left 4 dead 2
I cant see it. I wish i was as optimistic as the rest of you
