i dont mind ea either, im not a complete hater of them, its just that i think its absolutly stupid to prevent other companies form making them. the nba went the right way. but oh well, i dont play sports games anyways.

Well they make OK sports games i guess. I just bought NBA Live 2005 which is obivously made by them and i think its a blast

Sure they may make good games now, but what happens if they become a monopoly? One of the theories of economics says that competition is needed so that prices will be kept low and quality of products kept high.

Wow, not only is it football, it's college football, WHO CARES!?!?!

I think that would be a resounding: NOBODY!

Anyone else think EA have been ripped off in this deal?

I'm hardly mad at EA. I am seriously annoyed at the college football league. Sellouts.

EA gave'em more money they could make in 100 years.

and it was something like 0.01% of their annual income :p

Nah. College football is big business these days. One thing they're not hurting for is cash.

You'd be suprised to know American's would be...the losers.

Hmm - its just a licensing deal. They did not buy another company.

Whatever you think about EA, in the fickle world of gaming, they have managed to stay around for a very long time. Props to them for this.

I am not sure when they started doing business, but I can remember stuff from them in the 80s.

College football games are more popular now then ever probably. There was even one coming bundled with the XBox for a while.

Theory, that's all it is, theory.

I wasn't aware college sports games were big sellers. Doesn't seem like a huge deal to me, it's the kind of game that would appeal to a small group of people I think anyway.

You never know. People liked Tetris right?

Well....the syphon of all things competetive continues.

I've said it before, gamers win when companies compete against each other. Well...now you can add college football to a growing list of game genres that will no longer benefit from companies trying to better one another.

This one is worse for me in part because I don't feel I've ever played a college football game that has lived up to potential. They got worse and recently they've been getting better IMO, but EA wasn't the company progressing....it was the 2K series. Absolute crap. EA is flat out behaving cowardly. They get a smell of a company that could put up a fight and they run out with their dumptrucks of money and start spending. Smaller up and comers are F'd, like usual.

I haven't purchased an EA product in quite some time and actions like these make me feel all the more justified in my actions. It's another sad day for some gamers.

Smaller up and comers aren't F'd, they get money thrown at them. I don't see them suffering.

You know, the best way to support your ideas is to carry them over to your life and apply them. If you feel so strongly about EA simply avoid buying their games, that's the only way you can directly tell the company that you don't like how they're doing their job. If you stop feeding the older tiger he won't be strong enough to take on the younger.

If there ever turns out to be a lack of competition it's because a company is turning out a superior product or the government has gotten involved, since the govt isn't doing anything as of yet, EA is only making money because people out there are buying their crap.

Only EA game I plan to buy this year is BF2, I've never bought a sports title and I don't think I ever will. BF2 is all they get from me because it looks like a quality product.

I don't think this competition theory applies here. Maybe with other genres but not sports. Sure they don't have other companies to compete with but they've still gotta keep pushing their own limits year after year to convince gamers they need to buy the latest version of a game they had bought the season before. This is more true with college football than the rest of the sports too, since updated rosters and whatnot, that are usually the selling point of other games, really don't mean jack with college football since they can't use player's names anyways.

EA, good games, in the same sentence?

Yes, they made a lot of good games that i like. What exactly do you against them?

Westwood made the GOOD command and conquer/red alert games.

EA made the craptastic Generals. Did they make Renegade as well?

nope, westwood made generals.

EA makes some decent games, but I hate how they run things.

Westwood got taken over by EA and all their employees quit. The Westwood you see now is not the one from a few years back.
