What's the deal with the earthquakes lately?

Apparently there are many dead and the structural damage is beyond belief...

And to think right now there are people out there condemning the President of the United States for announcing his condolences.

What ****ing ridiculous, ugly partisanship. People are dead... lots of them.

Haiti is a very poor country (as you all probably know) and many of its structures are old and poorly constructed. This is a country that, while often prepared for the damage of a hurricane, was not at all prepared for the devastation of an earthquake. We can only hope that there are many survivors because it is looking worse as the sun comes up.

1. probably not concerned at all-- it gives him a chance to apologize for Boooosh causing the earthquake.

2. muslim population - unknown. I think Haiti has a mix of religions

My godfather, his wife and her family are in Haiti, so are my elderly aunt, her husband and their grandkids.... I was expecting this board to rise above its usual dose of crazy but no, too much to ask. I can't reach my parents but you're right there, proving me right in everything I think about you.

It's terrible every time an earthquake hits a poor country with insufficient earthquake building protection.

So many countless deaths that make most other disasters pale in comparison.
 
What's with the earthquakes? Well, all of our fault lines are just barely hitting that point to where each month that nothing happens increases chances exponentially. I'm waiting for the San Andreas fault to slip any week here now.

Haiti is in the Carribean for you east hemisphere bros, and is also the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Really, it's worst case scenario.

Over here, it's like: "Haiti, a country that's located..... somewhere, has been hit by an earthquake, and reports show that HOLY SHIT KOREANS ARE PRESUMED DEAD 7 OF THEM OH MY GOD HOLY SHIT Oh, and hundreds of Haitians are probably dead, a number approximately worth 2 Koreans."

I mean, I understand and all, and perhaps this perspective is what I've been trying to instill, but still.

Haiti did not need this. Crippling poverty, corruption, gang warfare and natural disaster after disaster and now this. I offer my condolences to the nation of Haiti.

I feel really sorry for Haiti and its people. They're a pretty messed up country, and now they got hit hard by a devastating earthquake. I'm glad that many countries are trying to help them, but I can't say the same for Cuba. I've heard they haven't done anything for them, and they're pretty close, too. No surprise there, I guess.

No, I don't believe so, but I assume they probably felt some of it, but took no damage. Most of the earthquake was centered in Haiti, at its capital, Port-au-Prince.
 
I think you can expect Cuba sending some doctors there eventually, they love showing them off. I'm no expert on political relations in the West Indies though, the Cubans might hate the Haitians with a passion for all I know.

Heh, you and I are both dead once the San Andreas goes. It's been really building, ya know? Even if we somehow manage to survive, we'll be living on the Island of California.
 
I wonder how they are going to rebuild. Because Haiti has been a cesspool of poverty for so long.
