Easy question

This is the first I've tried to use Hammer, and I was following along with Ichi's Basics Tutorial, but whenever I try to create an entity or a block, it doesn't show up in my camera area, even when I zoom in or move around.

Is there a command which puts the camera in the center of an object, instead of moving around in that giant camera void searching in vain for the created objects?

Thanks again.

When you start your camera is at 0,0,0, which is also marked on by three lines (XYZ).

So turn around the first thing you do. Zoom out. There's your object (Or white lines outlining the brush you're about to create. You need to press enter to actually create it ;)).

Hold down the space bar and a mouse button to move the camera about in the 3d window.
Space and LMB in all other windows.

Useful hint that surprisingly few people seem to know. :)

Also, when the mouse pointer is in the 3D window, press Z to toggle the fly-about mode. Then use WASD to move forward/back/strafe, and use the mouse to rotate the camera.

I appear to be in the minority but I dont like that method.
I use photoshop daily at work and the spacebar dragging method is used there so to me it is second nature. And quicker than pushing buttons then using others.

Horses for courses I suppose. Whatever floats your boat.
Is nice that we have the option.

I must be missing something. Spacebar doesn't do anything different from what would normally happen if you held down the mousebuttons in various configurations.

Left mouse button is like free look when held down. Right mouse button pans (up and down, left and right). Both mouse buttons together pan (left/right) or zoom (up/down). Space doesn't affect any of that, and neither do shift or alt.

Um... left is select, right is context menu... ???

oh. maybe because space allows these mouse controls while not in camera mode? In select or brush mode or whatever...
