Eat it Bugatti

The veyron has been beaten in top speed and acceleration by numerous cars. The difference though is the veyron is stock, and a LOT more comfortable, controllable, and safer than any of the modded cars that beat it. Which car would you feel more comfortable in a 100mph crash? Which car would you rather drive for 12 hours around road atlanta? Which car can you and wife best listen to classical music and cruise at 180mph in? It's not a hennessey viper, it's not a 1000+ victor, and it's not the Higham-Thomas Special Babs which went 272.45mph on March 2, 1927.

The veyron's a million dollar car, and you get what you pay for.

And for fun I quote jeremy clarkson, "You might point out at this juncture that the McLaren F1 could top 240mph, but at that speed it was pretty much out of control."
 
right, but the point is he spent under 100K to get the results of a car worth over a million.
 
but that's just it. He didn't get the results of a million dollar car. He got ONE aspect of a million dollar car.

Even the hennessey viper which has an unproven higher top speed, and a 0-200 that's proven quicker than the veyron still isn't as controllable or as comfortable as a veyron, even the driver says so in the video. When he's testing the veyron at one point he even takes his hands off the wheels.

It just boggles my mind that because a car can get to 200 faster or go 255mph that it suddenly is hands down a better car.


I'll quote some more fun stuff from clarkson's article as well:
VW went to Ricardo, a British company that makes gearboxes for various Formula One teams.

“God, it was hard,” said one of the engineers I know vaguely. “The gearbox in an F1 car only has to last a few hours. Volkswagen wanted the Veyron’s to last 10 or 20 years. And remember, the Bugatti is a damn sight more powerful than any F1 car.”

The result, a seven-speed double-clutch flappy paddle affair, took a team of 50 engineers five years to perfect.

With this done, the Veyron was shipped to Sauber’s F1 wind tunnel where it quickly became apparent that while the magic 1000bhp figure had been achieved, they were miles off the target top speed of 400kph (248mph). The body of the car just wasn't aerodynamic enough, and Volkswagen wouldn’t let them change the basic shape to get round the problem.

The bods at Sauber threw up their hands, saying they only had experience of aerodynamics up to maybe 360kph, which is the effective top speed in Formula One. Beyond this point Bugatti was on its own.

Covering the length of a football pitch, in a second, in a car. And then you might want to think about the braking system. A VW Polo will generate 0.6g if you stamp on the middle pedal hard. You get that from the air brake alone on a Veyron. Factor in the carbon ceramic discs and you will pull up from 250mph in just 10sec. Sounds good, but in those 10sec you’ll have covered a third of a mile. That’s five football pitches to stop.

I didn’t care. On a recent drive across Europe I desperately wanted to reach the top speed but I ran out of road when the needle hit 240mph. Where, astonishingly, it felt planted. Totally and utterly rock steady. It felt sublime.

And then I reached the Alps where, unbelievably, it got better. I expected this road rocket to be absolutely useless in the bends but it felt like a big Lotus Elise.

but omg a 40yr old victor can beat the veyron to 60mph therefore the veyron is worthless!



edit: ....this is sort of a sensitive subject for me because I end up dealing with a lot of people telling me bullshit like, "well <insert tuner here> has a skyline/supra/rx-7/mustang that runs a 9 second quarter mile...I'd rather have that because it's better than the veyron and only costs 130k!
 
I think theres a Porsche out there that does 40-60 in 1 second in 2nd gear..i THINK. One of the turbo classes.

Also, i know that some Saab's can accelerate in 2nd faster than a Carrera GT.

Still, that things just a hotrod with a stupidly big engine. A Veyron is comfort, speed, class and looks. That things just a stupid american body with a roll cage and a wannabe paintjob. Not impressed at all really. That things probably filled to the brim with nitro and supercharges and turbos etc. Its not exactly hard to get that amount of HP out of an engine, though i AM intrigued as to how they got the wheels to cope with it. The torque cant be that great :S
 
if i had more money id probably mod the hell out of my RX-8...great handling at high speeds
 
It's a Vauxhall Victor not a Voxel Vectra.
 
I think there is the fact that the veyron is stock as someone mentined
and this is a modifed one,so if think about categories they are not in the same
is like if we put those turbine propeled cars in coparation whit these,it wouldnt make sense since are very diferent

and there is many moded cars that can reach high speeds too and high power

but is we talk about stock cars straight from factory then the bugatti still is in the top though I dont like it that much,and acceleration isnt everything
 
Ok, but this car is over 2,000 HP. I understand it is modded, it is still unreal that a simple car like that can be turned into something which speed wise can outperform top of the line cars...all for under 100K. Picture being in a veyron and some guy comes up and says he wants to race. You look at his ride and laughably agree. Then boom, your in the dust.
 
You can strap a couple of rockets to your bike and do 0-100 in less than a second (and subsequently get smashed on the first wall you meet) but that doesn't make it better than a Veyron.

haha, i know it is, and it shouldn't be. I was just trying to compare his car to an expensive car. I obviously don't think this guys car is "better".

I think it's just making a statement like "eat it bugatti" and then linking to a video about a car that beats the veyron to 60...it could certainly appear that you're saying "eat it bugatti; this guy will beat you to 60!"
 
I hear that a supra can be moded to have 1000 hp very easily
