Does anyone know if this is going to be implemented in Half Life 2??

Most likely, there arn't many alternatives and HL had EAX in it.

I agree. Gabe arent sure what people mean by utilizing all the possibilities but they will have a VERY advanced soundsystem :)

I even thin i remember hearing about this sometime ago... possibly in the valve info thread.

Yeah I kinda quoted him (Gabe) there :)

covertghost Your welcome :)

I tend to get scratchy sounds with a lot of games when EAX is on... Max Payne 2 worked fine, and that's the only one I can think of where it actually didn't sound stupid...

That used to happen to me with EAX when I used the crappy "updated" web drivers for my Audigy.. I swithced back to the drivers that came on the CD and all was well

I've got a Live! 1024 SoundBlaster card, so no EAX acceleration on it, and when I enable EAX in a game, it gives me a huge performance hit. It sounds logical, but is it normal? I'm surprised that EAX is so processor-intensive (in my case, all the work is done by my cpu instead of on the sound-card), since I'm on an AMD 1800+ (1533 MHz), I figured a little more work for my processor wouldn't hurt that much. I'm talking about drops from 60 fps to 15-20 fps. Even in games like TrackMania, which isn't very heavy for your gpu, it decreases heavily in fps when I turn on it's EAX. Could anyone tell me what causes this?

That's odd. Especially because the SB Live! supports up to EAX 2.

Wow I always thought EAX was only supported by Audigy cards. I just looked at this page http://www.soundblaster.com/products/sblive/specs.asp and indeed, my card supports EAX. The problem still persists though...damn, what should I do?

Edit: Hmm, that page seems to be about a Live! 5.1 card. Mine's called Live! 1024. And I don't think it's a 5.1 card, it's only 2.1, which is actually a stereo channel that gets it's low frequencys cut off and redirected to the subwoofer. So perhaps my card actually doesn't support EAX. Anyone who can give me a clear answer?

I have a live 5.1 and it's not very good, the only game where reverberations actually work is HL and it has issues in Linux. If you have a worse card than me I would suggest upgradeing. I will be soon.

i had a SB live! 5.1 digital and i had a lot of problems with EAX and A3D. I just got a new SB Audigy 2 ZS and its AMAZING, i love this card, it increases the quality sooooo much and its only like $90. EAX works amazing now along with A3D. Its worth upgrading because i was really wondering if it would be worth it, it sure is.

I hv a SB audigy and Eax is beautiful in every game that supports it!!!!
Unreal 2 being the exception (eax was weird in that game)

Heh. I have a SiS 7012 Audio Controller (Its onboard, but its a Hardware DSP), and I have no issues with A3D or EAX 2.0.

They better have EAX 2 Advanced because I'm buying the Audigy 2 ZS and GigaWorks speakers :D
