There seems to be tons of radeon 9800 pro's on ebay for around $180-250 which is awesome... has anyone had any luck buying one that cheap?

that's my plan of attack on getting mine, hmmm

If your willing to accept the risk of being ripped off from another country with different laws, then go right ahead and buy a high end card for a price that seems too good to be true.

Or you could check out the reputable retailers and choose a card closer to your price range and be safe in the knowledge that you spent wisely. ;)

That's a big risk in buying a video card...it could be OC'ed to hell and back for all you know. I'd stick with the retailers if I were you.

Go get em, blue stane...

Don't nobody bid against the man.

Tempting....but I'm holding off. My existing card will do me well for another few months. That 9800xt (or better) is coming my way next march.

used components from ebay is NOT a good idea. Many of them are being sold because they dont work properly/at all. I once... knew a guy(yea, thats the ticket) who sold a gamecube that wouldnt play certain games as a working unit. and I never got any complaint either.

try pricewatch.com to get the best price, but dont buy anything used from someone you dont know and trust.

Ebay is a pretty decent place in as much the retailers all have history and reputations to uphold. If they don't follow through with good merchadise, good service, you can give them a black mark...which hampers them from doing future business. And they want to do future business.

I got my current machine (with ti4400, which was pretty new at the time) in July 2002 through ebay and have had zero complaints.

what everyone has said is true; BUT NOT for NEW components. There are a lot of "ebay retailers" who sell new stuff, never opened. If you get on of those, from someone who has a few hundred positive reviews (like 96% or better) then it should be ok.

I got my monitor from ebay new and its great. just buy from respectable people and buy new stuff.

This is why you look at the comments section. The more sales they have with positive feedback, the more likely they are on the up and up.

The guy who sold me my gear a year ago did it full time and again, I got a great setup for a great price and have had zero complaints.

If it's just a onetime shmoe (hey homer....er, your friend that you know), you should be wary.
