EDGE Top 100

Halo was good, but not top 10 material by far.
Can think of so many more games to take its place.

heh, tetris defintly deserves its spot..the amount of long plane flights tetris has entertained me on =].

I ****ing hate these "greatest games" lists, it's all about ****ing nostalgia

Tell me with a straight face that you would rather play TETRIS over the 90 other games before it in the list

These, aside from the AI, are moot IMO. Sure, the combat sucked, but there was so much more to it than simply the fighting. Combat just isn't that important. Weapons aren't really that important (I'll refrain from going on a rant regarding the utterly mundane FPS-more weapons-better-game philosophy some people seem to condone).

Not that I'm accusing you otherguy, just speaking in general.

I know. I probably should go back and play it after all these years, but I picked it up, went through the first gunfight, thought it sucked, and never played it again.

Wow. Get past the statue of liberty to the first UNATCO headquarters level. Then you'll see what the game is all about.

Good god man, get down there and pick it up again! You'd love it.

Halo's inclusion so high on the list is a face saving maneuver. They can't whack it down where it truly belongs, since it's among the few games they've ever given a score of '10' to.

Edge still go on about Halo. There's no face saving going on here - they like it, and so do I :p

Quite a few N64 games in there too, can't really comment since I never owned one.

I randomly brought out my n64 the other day and i still haven't put it back yet

I've been playing goldeneye etc with people (only single player, getting another controller soon though :D:D) and it's been amazing, just as fun as it was years ago

it may not have had that many good games on it but the ones it did have were absolute masterpieces

When are they going to stop making these polls and just create an annual "Alright, we get it, Ocarina of Time is still great" day or something? The day when fat angry nerds in Nintendo t-shirts are free to run amok and beat to death anyone who doesn't have an N64 and a Zelda cartridge collecting dust in their garage - with Mario plushies. Then maybe that way I can stop giving a damn.

I'M SORRY I DIDN'T PLAY THE BEST GAME EVER, OKAY? STOP REMINDING ME.

THE BEST GAME EVER bored me. There's many N64 that are better tbh, I'll take Mario 64, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark over it any day.

While those games are good, I didn't like them as much as OOT.

This is mainly because I have been a Zelda fan since I first picked up an NES. It was sheer joy to open the box for the first time. The game itself might not have been perfect, but for an adventure game it was excellent, and for a Zelda game it was the perfect transition into 3D.

Even though there are games which I like more, and though I really dislike the N64 and Nintendo's attitude at that time.
I think zelda is an incredible game. With varied rich and thoughtful gameplay. Great controls that have been copied by many games and great looks at for it's time.
Hell the first time I played it I almost cried from joy, it was such an incredible experience. And I definitely do not mind it's top position.

Wow, there are others that agree with me that zelda is over rated. :O

It's a good game, but not the best ever IMO. Also, didn't anyone else dislike fighting Ganondorf? I found the first part of that boss annoying.

Legend has it that video games actually existed more than 10 years ago. I've also heard that video games could've been around probably 20-25 years ago, and that they moved in herds.

Greatest games of all time, my arse. Gamers were clocking space invaders and galaxian when the pompous morons who write these stoopid lists were still playing with rattles.

Interesting Historical Fact: Galaxian was the first ever video game to use colour. Before that, colour was achieved by sticking strips of tinted acetate to b/w screens.

Nothing like a spot of tennis :D

I really liked that bit. I sucked ass at timing my swing properly, as I was 10, but it was fun :D

If Gunstar Heroes isn't in this list, someone will pay. If Gunstar Heroes isn't at least in the top 20, someone will pay.

Someone's already going to pay that it's not in the top 10.

Get FFXII out of there, switch HL1 for HL2 and you have a pretty good list.

Best games? I agree with Half-Life 2 and Tetris but other games are average (FF XII and RE4 may be good, but I never played them). But I'm disapointed by presence of stupid overrated Mario games on this list.

Just because a game was the best game of its time doesn't mean that it deserves to be called one of the best games of all time. Although some of those games are very good, alot of the time people only say that they're better than newer games because they remember them being so great and new and shiny and stuff, but if they actually played them again, they would find them lacking.

Indeed. The best games should stand the test of time. They should be the games you break out again and again and never feel tired of playing.

Like Gunstar Heroes.

And Mario 64 :)

4 of my favourite games of all time appeared on the N64 - Mario 64 has aged better than all of them.

They don't seem to be RTS fans do they? Or indeed strategy fans in general.

I'd have expected at least 1 game from the Civ series, Westwood or Blizzard to make the top 10.

Or perhaps they like rts but didn't think one quite deserves a spot in the top 10?

'They' are Egde readers btw - critical verging on anal, but more into the console side of things.

Trying to read ****ing Edge is like sifting through a manure dunked bible. Such shitty layout.

Not quite with you there. Edge has always been an example of how magasines should look and read to me. But hey, horses and courses an all that.

I'm not saying Space Invaders should've been no.1, in fact I hated the game. I'm saying calling something the top 100 games of all time is a ridiculous claim to make, as the result is based on popular opinion at a particular point in time, an opinion which is constantly shifting and advancing. Top 100 of the decade, maybe. But ever? nope.

It was a poll, of course HALO is on it!
