I would like to make a game demo (not for sale or distribution) using the Valve tools and have a few questions.

1) My system meets the minimum requirements for Half-Life 2 but will it meet the requirements for the tools? I have a 4 year old PC with a 1.8 GHz AMD CPU, 2GB of RAM and an NVidia 6600 card.
2) Can I get the Valve tools by buying the Orange Box?
3) I am not an artist. Are there stock models and art with the tools?

Thanks

Well , its a little more complicated than this so i will tell you what i can.

1) Yes.

2) Yes but you have to download them seperately through steam

3) Nope , in fact the SDK (source developement kit) doesnt come with a modeling program , you have to download a third party one.

It sounds to me like you are just starting off with editing so maybe you should start a little bit slower , start by making maps , then move on to modeling , then combine the two by putting your models into your maps and work your way up from there. Hope that helped.

1) Yes.
2) Yes, you will need extra HDD space and an internet connection to download them from Steam.
3) You can use all the textures, player models and environment models included with the games in the Orange Box, provided your project is not for commercial purposes (which you've already said it's not). However, I don't think you can mix and match TF2 props and textures with the Half-Life 2 and Episodes stuff because they use some advanced shading functions (or at least if you can use them they won't appear exactly the same). There's nothing to stop you from experimenting, though.
