...Mean Girls is actually a good movie.
I know...I know...it seems like a movie targeted towards 14 year old girls...but hear me out.
Saturday night before we went to a party, a couple friends and I had time to waste...so a movie popped up as an idea. We had already seen Man on Fire and my friends had already seen Punisher...so Mean Girls was next on the list. We were really bored (I justified it as seeing Lindsay Lohan and we got $5 tickets at the union)...so we decided to go see it.
We step into the theater...and it's packed with young girls gabbing about a bunch of nonsense I'm sure...suddenly this idea seemed to turn real sour real quick. It was extremely awkward asking 13-14 year old girls if the open seats near them were taken (it was pretty full). So after 4 crappy trailers aimed at young girls came and went..the movie started.
When I saw the credits coming on I noticed lots of SNL people (Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Tina Fey, Tim Meadows) and Lorne Michaels as producer...I thought to myself, "Well..it can't be THAT bad with all these people in it...right?"
Right. The movie was actually way better than I had expected. This isn't your average young little schoolgirl movie (not that I'd know what one of those would be like). 4 people get hit by buses in this movie - Hick children talk about guns to defend against homosexuals and dinosaurs - Tim Meadows is a badass - There's a kid who is "almost too gay to function" (<-He's funny too)- Of course, Lindsay Lohan and crew are hot and ho themselves up at various points throughout the movie.
I walked away from this movie very surprised. I liked it a lot...and if I had a bunch of other friends that hadn't seen it...I'd actually consider seeing it again...yeah... I said it.
Even Rottentomatoes.com gave it an 86%
Ebert gave it thumbs up (I don't think Roeper knows what he's talking about for most of his ratings...so I don't really listen to him)
Check it out.
