Yah a demo would be nice, but I think thats just wishful thinking. With how secretive they've been about specifics and not letting out the plot before the release, i find that highly doubtful.
I'd like to see maybe some new media, and it'd be nice if they could get the SDK out for the mods community.

Well, if they new for a FACT that long ago about the delay and chose to not tell us well okay maybe, but I still say don't be surprised too much - they are still just a business despite the fact that some of us want them to be more.

I agree with U Dude but unreal 2 was in development
for a similar period of time and it was one of the most poor excuses for
a sequel, especialy since the original was such a great game for its time.
HL1 was very ground breaking for its time to and Valve understand that screwing up the game would be the end of them!
I am mega pissed at the compleet lack of respect for fans in regarding the timing of the anouncement, but sh$t hapens for a reason, and only they know why its delayed, You can bet your ass its for a good one.

But my point is, they haven't let us in close at all. They've used and abused their community relationship to promote the game. It just feels like they've taken so much from their fans without giving anything back.
THey have let us in closer than most other companies would who are busy and trying to remain secretive about plot and such. All I'm saying is that we put Valve on a pedestal, but they are just another business and this stuff happens all the time we where just in such a close position about everything else that we feel that much more let down.

I think it would be sweet if they could somehow just release the short tech demo for us to play with. Fans could maybe get a rough idea how HL2 would run on their system, and it would be amusing. I wanna shoot down those barrels and throw a matress in the water. ;(

This is really unbelievable, how can you do this to your fans, cancel it just 6 days beforce release, this is an example of non commitment to your customers, I have lost faith in this company, they're all the same.

Actually, they may not have known about the delay for some time.
In 1997, Valve were near to finishing off Half-Life 1 but Gabe took the decision to delay it while they went over some of the things that they didn't like.
It's not unreasonable to think that Gabe would delay the game a few months to make sure everything works. It could be that they were running late but instead of rushing it, they decided to delay it.
Don't automatically assume just because Fragmaster was right about the delay, the rest was right.
I could say that Republicans are going to win the next US Presidential Election because Bush has a mind controlling goat. Now, Bush may win the election, but that doesn't mean I was right about the mind controlling goat.

I got 2 questions:
1. Can someone email Game himself and ask questions that we get actuall answers too? He is still holding to 30th? Exactly WHAT are they doing atm?
2. Do they (Valve dudes) actually actually visit this site? If not, can you tell em to do so, and maybe take part of this community?
That email from Doug Lombardi doesnt tell me much btw.
Oh, and also, Max Payne 2 is scheduled for Oct 15, last time I checked (could be wrong though)

Valve is delaying the game so that Nvidia can develop a new line of video cards that actually support DX9. That way HL2 payers can get the full effect of the game. The way it is supposed to be played!

They said it took extra time, however many months I believe they said atleast 6 months to make the codepath so the game would even be playable for Nvidia cards. So I thank Nvidia somewhat for a longer developing process than necessary. heh And I doubt they would ditch Ati over a bribe, the game runs twice as good on Ati cards and they're bundling the game /w Ati cards thats already been established.

Ok, how many big games have you looked forward to, and have been delayed? For me, the answer is almost all of 'em.
We were like a week away and they hadnt announced they had gone gold, an i was slightly supprised as how the hell were they gonna stap that many disks in such a short space of time for so many pre orders, shop orders and stuff.
I dont really thing Valve have much control over the date, i do belive that if they release it now, it will sell as fast as much as it would at any point in the year (Christmas)
What I wanna know is..... WHY

the fact that Doug can't say what happened or when they are thinking about releasing, along with the fact that they say "holiday 2003" just like Vivendi said months ago indicates that this was a Publisher/Developer conflict.
Looks like Vivendi has the day. Maybe we'll hear more about this in post-mortems...

hehe not to go off topic, and also I admit that I didn't follow Morrowind much untill close to release...but as far as I know that one actually made its release date...correct me if I'm wrong though.
