Email From Doug L to me

like everyone else im annoyed mainly because less than a month ago they said they were going to make the date. now its delayed presumably for a couple of months, you would of thought they would have known they wernt going to make it
 
I bet Valve is just as disheartened as the rest of the community about delaying the games release,

So now we get no explanation either. What a bunch of shit. My guess it that Vivendi is strong arming them - that's a possible reason for them not being able to say anything about it.

Actually...I have a possible explaination for the silence:

Vivendi wants money, they think cash is in a holiday release...so they say to Valve that they want to hold the game back until the Holidays, and Valve fearing that they are going to lose the publishing deal say "Fine". Now that is all well in good with me, Vivendi are a bunch of c@ck sucking mongoloids...but Valve is just about to send the e-mail off to the news sites with a tiny footnote reading "Vivendi made us do it" when who else calls up but Vivendi, fearing that telling the public it was their decision would bring down a rain of viruses and hackers so great it could be described as biblical, to tell Valve "No, you can't tell them it was us...it is in, uhh...in section Z, subsection 47234, paragraph 8000000 it says you can't, and the contract is sealed so you can't prove any of what I've just said..okaythanksbye*click*"
 
Now we all know the game is delayed...
But we still don't know WHY?
What happened at Valve HQ to say only 6 days before the 30th: "Sorry guys but the game is delayed..."
Unknown reason... I WANT TO KNOW!

You miss a "little" thing:

The VALVe are singed a quite large contract with ATi (you know: ATi Radeon 9800XT cards shipped with HL2 single-only version), and the 9800XT cards wont be delayed 2-3 month just because one of the in-the-box game to be late...

Anyway, the way of the VALVe are communicate simply outrageous... :flame:
 
Last week... ATi said "The card will cost $399 and will be in the shops two to three weeks after the Alcatraz announcement in serious quantities"

The Alcatraz event is the 30th Sept..
So maybe we'll see HL2 in end October... That would be nice!
 
exchage ATI for Vivendi, and it's pretty much the same deal.

hell, maybe ATI couldn't strong-arm Valve by themselves so they brought Vivendi in to help.
 
Reading all these 18 pages i find it interesting that as soon as something bad happens you're all over valve like a pack of wild dogs, but if they were to say "the game is coming out today" you would say valve is the best comany ever and have you want to have their babies...

like everyone else i would love an explanation for the delay and there is still a thought in the back of my head that it isnt delayed but i guess i'm only human
 
relax guys.... hl1 had a showstopper bug in it...

hl2 prolly does too

either that or some kind of securiry hole in the auth

or both

just chill the delay wont be as long as most people speculate

of course, all of the above IS speculation

and YES my heart did skip a beat when i saw it, guess i'm more excited than i thought

i guess we'll find out today (25th) at 2.00pm EST, as thats when the SDK is suposed to be released...

like i said before... if it is true, you'll all want to touch gabe in a special place:E
 
well just like any emails about HL2 delay related or not people are allways sceptical bout them, and who wouldnt be, probably a fake but by tomorrow i'm sure we will know either way
 
I'm not saying I disagree with Munro, but I don't think anyone should automatically discredit anything, no matter how unlikely it is. As Broon said, we'll no for sure at 2 PM tomorrow or if we get some sort of press release previous to that.

And don't forget how easy it is to fake Steam conversations.
 
Greg Coomer just posted on steampowered.com forum saying the gone gold announcement was fake, can you people shut up now?
 
It's been confirmed it's delayed. There is a mass of fake emails going out pretending to be Gabe. This is one of them. I got it today and of course I'm not as stupid as gamershell so I didn't post it. If you want to be an idiot and ignore confirmed information then be my guest. Just don't annoy me with your ignorance.
 
They delay it for their stupid steam crap. Their nr. of steam servers need to be increased cause they will not be able to handle the amout of downloads and ppl then get pissed off. And think about that, ->through Steam they sell more copies of the game cause the real players will want to get it asap, starting to download the second it's released. I guess that way they can make more profit cause they circumvent vivendi.... (that's a guess, but is a logical assumption and I think I read that somewhere too.)
 
Well its all valves fault if they posted the information on an official website then we would not have to speculate.

But that the whole point valve are loving all this attention they are getting so why post an official statement?
 
To finish this mass panic of the geeks, I can just say... "get your lazy ass out of that chair, get a life and find a girlfriend. Maybe consume some socially not accepted substances if you find satisfaction. Then, that whole halflife2 thing wont be such a problem anymore. Maybe get a job as well... cause when you ppl apply for one in the future, it wouldnt look good putting "halflife2 expert" as ur qualifications.

I don't think it could be because Vivindi (sp?) is telling them when to release it.
I'm sure every publisher under the sun would kill their entire family just to publish HL2.
Maybe they're locked into a contract or something.
Oh well.

If you want to sit back and wait, then good on you, do it, but let other people do what they want without abusing them for it.
 
This is all confusing. I guess we will find out tomorrow if the SDK is published.

Why are we in the dark? Why isn't there an OFFICIAL HL2 press releases website? I like Blizzard Ent. because all their news is posted first on their own website.. None of this stupid unreliable email crap

Oh Joy !!! You guys should not react to my statement that serious. Cause by attacking me back just shows that you felt adressed by it. Hence you proved me right. Now again,... relax and wait until there is a bit more info about the release cause valve exactly wants that what everyone is doing, i.e.: to panic cause it is delayed. The more they keep playing with the mythical date, the more attention they get from people and that is just what they want. In the end they probably might just want to release a perfect game without flaws, and that just takes time.
 
My initial reaction to the article about the delay of HL2 was, "Ah... we all knew it was coming... here it is!" But... after a few minutes, my mind started to wander into, "Valve knows everyone would go nuts if they pushed back the release date... what if they're just ****ing with us?" Dunno if they are, dunno if they aren't. Could be any reason for them to push back the date. My opinion is that if the release date is pushed back on this product, I will still be eager to buy it when it is released, but I will expect it to be near-flawless when I receive it. Otherwise, it should be released on the date they specified three months ago, and it should be everthing they said it would be :-P

Yup. The funny thing is I knew all about Valve's reputation for always being late with everything (from HL1 to patchs to TF2) and still for some odd reason I believed them when they kept on saying September 30th.

They didn't even have the class to explain themselves in the least. I mean they're good guys but this is far from professional. They should have better communication with their partners and fans.
 
hahah remember when we were all like Hmmm how cools that they let Spitty in, there really cool ppl, they had it going but lost it, well it should still b worth it, Woohoo another 7 week wait ='(
 
They're prolly just saying its delayed so that people spend their money on other things first. That way they won't be in so much trouble when it does release, because not as many people will be using Steam to get it, and it will go a lot smoother! =D

The EBGames where I live is saying Oct. 17, so, maybe it is mid Oct. WHO KNOWS?!
