QUICK EXPLANATION. - CONTACT FOR MORE INFO.
Like Natural Selection, Embryo is a hybrid first-person/real-time strategy game for Halflife 2. There is a resource model, a tech tree, structures and upgrades, just like a traditional RTS (like Starcraft or Command and Conquer). It is mostly played in first-person, but one player can become the Commander and plays from a top-down perspective.

Embryo (based off the movie Aliens)

Simple outline.
- Embryo will contain 2 teams - Marines & Xenomorphs.
- The objective is to eliminate the oppostion.
- Each team will be lead by there following commanders, Marines will be commanded by the Visual Cockpit, and the Aliens commanded by there Queen Xenomorph
- Equipment used in the movie "Aliens" will be used but modified for copyright reasons.
- Embryo's maps will be of a large scale and need "scouting of the map" such as you would in other RTS for the commander to obtain full view.
- Embryo will require team play, and an excellent communication system.
- Upgrades will be rewarded to the teams via the VC/QX
- To earn upgrades a team must capture hold and build resources containers, once a team captures a resource point there team will slowly gain points/credits which they may use on buildings, equipment and upgrades etc.

- Marines A.K.A Xenomorph Marine Corps

- Marines will start with simple ammunitions eg knife, XMC pistol & XMC light rifle.
- One man shall enter the VC ( Visual Cockpit ) And he will command all other players from there.
- Upgrades will be rewarded to the XMC via the VC
- To earn upgrades a team must capture hold and build resources containers, once a team captures a resource point there team will slowly gain points/credits which they may use on buildings, equipment and upgrades etc.
- When a building has been placed down by they VC any marine may go up to the building and build it using his/her action key.

- Aliens A.K.A Xenomorph

- Aliens will start with 2 attacks eg Bite and Chestbite
- One alien is allowed to gestate into the Queen Xenomorph a.k.a QX
- Bio upgrades will be rewarded to the Xeno's via the QX
- To earn upgrades a team must capture hold and build resources containers, once a team captures a resource point there team will slowly gain points/credits which they may use on buildings, equipment and upgrades etc.
- When a structure has been placed down by they QX any xenomorph may go up to the building and build it using his/her action key.

This is a little off topic. But have any of you let ever thought about how good a MMORPG would be if you played a role in an army. To start with your army has a small base. It is then up to you to build up your defenses and each player can become different things but in a development kind of way and not a class way. Anyway I will shut up :p
 
First it was CS clones, then WWII, and now it's RTS's with a commander :(
 
I was thinking about making an Alien based game. Then I realized that the movie comes out in a month, and that they already have 2 first person shooters released. I don't think that they will give you permission to make an Alien mod. Wouldn't make any sense to me.

everyone always wants to make a "better" game than the ones
but never really do...

Anyone can say that, show us some proof.
 
All of this "people have already done this" talk is getting on my ****ing nerves. Let the people do whatever they want, how they want.
 
I am willing to take in new ideas such as not have comm stations where they sit and look over but yet another view, maybe they get to look at the team through a thirdperson view, and have commands that sound that player.

Like in a normal Multiplayer game, when you die you get to watch the other players play.We will use that view, Well in this version ( since its based off aliens ) the commmander gets to cycle through the teams "cameras" and from there able to click on there screen at points which the player is able to visually see.

Not only will that give the commander a better view on how to move the team but also things such as "Look there" "Scope out here" on a 3D view. Rather than a straight down look.

What do you think? I want as much feedback as possible.

Embryo - Quick Description
( All names etc are still being finalised. Even mod name is still being finalised. )

Embryo ( Based off the movie Aliens ) is a hybrid first-person/real-time strategy game for Halflife 2. There is a resource model, a tech tree, structures and upgrades, just like a traditional RTS (like Starcraft or Command and Conquer). It is mostly played in first-person, but one player in the Marine team can be a commander which views through the other marines squads cameras ( cameras are placed on marines helmets ) the commander gives the squad orders, structures and tasks which the team must complete, all is needed to wipe out the opposition.

For the aliens they have a slightly differnet style of play, there colony is conducted by a queen alien who lays eggs, & structures for the alien colony to use. Aliens are able to carry/move the structures from place to place strategically to elimante the opposition.

USCM - United States Colonial Marines
- Beginning.

The USCM ( Marines ) start inside either there UD-4L Dropship or M557 APC with basics:
-M4A3 Pistol
-M41A Pulse Rifle
-M40 Grenade
-Motion Tracker
-USCM Overhead Flashlight
-M10 Ballistic Helmet - Does not include Smartgun Auto Tracker
-M3 Light Personal Armour

After spawning with there equipment the team load up, and one man enters the comm room becoming the "commander".
The commander first must load up each players camera making sure they are all functional and working, then has certain choices of AUTOBUILD's to create. AUTOBUILD's are automated buildings which are atuomatically placed outside the UD-4L Dropship or M557 APC when "bought" and can be moved by the marines.
The commander will have a certain amount of neurons which he may use to "buy" AUTOBUILD's
He can gain more neurons by successfully connecting EBM PCX laptop computer's to certain control sectors of the map.
Once they are place and built, they give out vital equipment which the marines must use wisely.
Each AUTOBUILD takes a certain amount of time to generate it all depends on the Type of AUTOBUILD
Each AUTOBUILD has a certain amount of equipment that it is able to create, and once it has been completed, it will shutdown.
Each peice of equipment takes a certain amount of time to create, and while it is creating one peice of equipment it cannot create any others.

Marines and AUTOBUILD's:-
How is it going to work.

When marines come back to the UD-4L Dropship or M557 APC they will notice little boxes with name tags on the side, they have been placed there by the commander for them to assemble and use.
First the marines have to pickup the box ( Maybe an assigned key or just action key ) and take it to the desired place the wish to setup the AUTOBUILD.
Once they have found there desired position to place the AUTOBUILD they must assemble it. ( Maybe an assigned key or just action key )
Now they may use the AUTOBUILD ( Maybe an assigned key or just action key ) Until it runs out of equipment, and shutsdown.

Marines and Tasks:-
What else are they doing?

While other marines are moving and assigning AUTOBUILD's or while the marines are moving and assigning AUTOBUILD's there are some other things they can do to increase the amount neurons there commander is receiving.
In order to do this the commander must create a AUTOLINK building. Once this has been assembled the marines can take EBM PCX laptop computers.
Once the marine or marines ahve them they must attatch these computers to certain control rooms and parts of the mainframe of the building/ship/site that they are in.
Once one is connected the commander will start to notice a increase in his neuron updates ( Basically means he has gone from receiving 1 neuron point every 5 seconds to 2 neuron points every 5 seconds etc ) the more mainframes etc connected the more points the commander can recieve.

Then the main task for the marines is to elimate the aliens and all and any traces of aliens.

Commanders Tasks:-
What else does he do apart from make AUTOBUILD's?

While the commander is creating AUTOBUILD's for the marines he must also help them with there way through the buildings. To do so the commander has access to the cameras on top of each of the marines M10 ballistic helmets, he also has a communication device in which he can tell the marines where to go, where too look, where to hide, what do to, where to rush etc through a point click system.

How does the "point click system" work?
The point click system is rather simple, while the commander is viewing the team and seeing what they see from there helmet, he can actually give visual commands. He can click on the screen while a certain command is selected, and that marine will get that order.
e.g A marine walks down a hall way slowly with his smartgun then a comm signal appears on his screen its a blue crosshair with "- Attack room" on it, and its on a door. He walks up to the door opens it up revealing three aliens crawling on the walls "Lets Rock! *Smartgun fire*".


Aliens - Xenomorphs

-Beginning.

Before the match starts the aliens begin in there eggs, while they are in there they decide who is going to be queen.
The Queen then is chosen ( Maybe a menu, Vote system? etc ) and she spawns first.
When the other aliens are released from there eggs

*This section to be discussed*
They must go around the map and find a host.
The map will contain AI which will be around the map
They leap onto the AI's face, then creating the alien corresponding with the host.
- All this time wasting to get a host etc is being made up for, since the size of the maps are large and the marines are steal easy targets -

The Queen is a very large alien and is sort of slow, but VERY strong.
She then can settle down somewhere and setup her spawning tube ( The large tube attatched to her ) which allows her to lay structures and eggs ( She has to spawn the players herself ). Because the queen can lay eggs she has the ability to choose what she lays. Queens lay Xenolife's.
Xenolife's are living organic structures which are atuomatically placed at the bottom of the Queens spawn tube and can be moved by the aliens when they have been layed. The Queen will have a certain amount of pain points which she can use to lay Xenolife's or eggs. To gain pain points the queen alien will have to stop laying until she has enough points left to use.
Each Xenolife takes a certain amount of time to generate it all depends on the Type of Xenolife.
Each Xenolife has a certain amount of usage that it is able to expell, and once it has been completed, it will die.
Each ability from a Xenolife takes a certain amount of time to create, and while it is creating one ability it cannot create any others.

Aliens and Xenolife's:-
How is it going to work.

Pretty much the same way as the marines, accept they will be more hidden as they can be built into alien hive walls ( the organic-like walls ) which will make it harder for the marines to destroy them, as well as in the open ( areas where there are no organic walls )

Protect the Queen.
Destroy the enemy.
Queens Tasks:-
What else does he do apart from make Xenolife's?
She is also going to be able to move, and since she is the strongest alien she can move around, but with enough fire power she can be brought down easily so its better off she doesnt move around too much.
