hmm, it would be better if you added more frames to the explosion!!! like the fade away at least two more frames!!! just go over them and the fade effect for two frames... and it wount be completely dull looking

Well, the biggest smiley we have on the forum is :cheers: so try and keep that size as a max

It's usually just the head that makes up an emoticon.

Your Combine Assassin would work well if it was just the head.

Your crowbar one might also work if it was just "Gordon" and the "Headcrab" and no background.

The type of stuff you're doing would work very well as signature icons, but since the emoticons on the forum are small (to save space) less details are needed.

I like. You should put a black border around the headcrab and smiley, though, so it looks more like the ones that we have

Well they're huge. Limit yourself to 25x25 or 30x30 pixels and do genuine pixel art instead of flash animation and they'll improve much.
