Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it...

At the end of HL1, I tried both ways; accepting the G-Man's offer and rejecting it...

Half-Life 2 assumes you accepted right?

Well, for those people who rejected his offer, the story is a little mixed...

By the way, I know this is a stupid thing to discuss, I just wondered if you had any ideas, thoughts or opinions on the end of HL and this "issue".

Well, if you reject it Gordon dies, so I'm guessing it has to be the acception option.
How do you do the spoiler tag?

Maybe it's what Valve wants you to think right now, but you actually chose to battle and somehow survived and got into a coma. It's possible because HL2 will start with you confused, waking up with a long time between now and BMRF but your only memory will be that G-Man conversation.

I don't think you need a spoiler tag for this. Come on the games over 5 years old.

Spoiler tags?! Oh yeah... you're looking for the "COLOR=SlateGray" tag...

gordon didnt actualy die, you just saw the aliens and blackd out.

Good point, thanks! :)

already been answered by valve--he DID die if you refuse and you accept to get HL2 story.

i did see a while ago, actually, in an interview or something with gabe in which he said that HL2 is assuming that you took the G-Mans offer. besides, all of the info on the game so far uses this
and says that its several years later, and youre employed by the G-Man.

I figure, if you went to the planet and died, the chances of a sequel would be pretty slim. I liked the HL ending, but if it was real life (stretch your imagination) what option would anyone take? Most likely not the certain death one. I suppose discussing this is a bit like saying: How come Gordon can die and come back if I save it? The character has to have the chance of being killed, you just have to accept that he wasn't. If you would choose to die, then you shouldn't play HL2, because you died! ;)

'Suspension of Disbelief'

I finally got to say it!! :afro:

Hey, come on, there might be some guy in a cave in northern Russia that's just learning about this "Half-Life" thing, and might not know the end. I just prefer to be courteous, just in case.

And this forum could use a spoiler tag.

Well maybe when gordon blacked out after denying gmans offer, the aliens infested him and then he went back to gman saying i won, hahaha that was easy. But i guess ill accept you offer. Then he works undercover for the aliens. Then at the end of Hl2 he kills gman and then Gmans son grows up and in Hl3 Gmans son trys to kill gordon and the aliens. Wow who would ever think that Gordon would work with such vile creatures, even if he is infested.

Jabberwock95, gotta love that sig! :p

I haven't played the original HL through in years! All this talk of the ending going two ways has made me think about playing it again, just too see.

Maybe HL2 will perform a system check to see which option you chose in HL and refuses to run if you refused the G-Man's offer :p

LOL!! ey wait a minute, that meens that I cant play HL2 because i choosed dead en the firth chapter? F***!!! ***!!***!*!!!!!

Anyway the Half-Life story is quite interesting, who is the valve-man`s name that wrote the story again?

Is there ANYONE who didn't run through twice to see both endings? I saved as soon as I killed nihilanth so I could watch the ending over and over. Easily the best ending to a FPS ever. What I wouldn't give to watch the ending with HL2-style graphics. Ahhhhh.

Guys guys guys.... what REALLY happened was: Gordon gives gman the finger and continues on to fight and kill every single alien that opposes him... ninja style :D

At that point the gman got on his knees and begged Gordon to take the job, and Gordon felt sorry to see the Gman in such a pitiful state so he reluctantly accepted the job.

Yeah I quick-saved at the start of the G-Man's speech... :p

And to think Gamespot rated it one of the 10 most disappointing endings of all time...

'what valve want you to think?', 'coma', are you listening to what you're saying?

of course it means you chose to go with the g-man, why do you think he's your boss in the 2nd game :p

if you want to play a game where gordon took the certain death offer there is an actual mod that does this. its a halflife mod that continues the storyline in that supposedly gordon chose not go along with the gman. when he was teleported to the room with the alien grunts, he was supposedly teleported out by some friendly scientists before he could get stung too many times. Gordon then goes on a quest to find and kill the gman

cant remember its name though

which did gordon pick!

I say he picked the room you die i, found a hideing spot destroyed them all and all the sudden went into a coma or the aliens put him in one and .... dum da da he wakes up in cit 17 or alcatraz or whateva!

what do you guys think, I can almost feel hl2's presence I think its comeing soon.... time for some sexy story threads :sniper:

This was originally posted as a seperate thread.
Merged.
Fits in here like a glove.... I think?

I'd go for one of the worst final battles though. Stupid giant baby. I would have rather had a insanely huge firefight with soldiers, aliens, and barneys.

EDIT: Barneys the HL police, not the annoying purple spawn of evilness.
