I think not. It's just that Valve did something very rare for first person shooters. They made YOU the person who had to draw the conclusions, and personally, it was the best ending to a game I've ever witnessed.

All it does is make you think and doesn't spoon-feed you the storyline. Remember that there will be HL3 and that will fill in a lot of missing information. Also check out that Timeline site (Half-Life Saga). It's so interesting.

Hats off to Valve for making an amazing game.

The ending was too abrupt. It was a good ending, but I really wish that they had more dialog with Alyx right before, to help tide me over 'till HL3. The relationship just felt too unfinished. 15-20 seconds of dialog would have made a huge difference in how I felt.

And I had really expected to see horrors in the Citadel,. I kept waiting to see what horrible things went on there.

Also, I think VALVe made a big mistake by making the Credits one of the chapters. Not knowing that the last chapter was credits, I thought there was still more game to go.

All in all, I liked the ending to HL1 a lot more. It blew my mind in a way that HL2 did not even attempt to.

Still, a good ending to a great game.

I also wished the ending were longer.
In retrospect though, that's probably 'cause it was good and I wanted more of the goodness.

the only thing ending was missing for me was a big ass boss

there was a boss! its just that it was staying still, and couldnt hurt you, and you had heaps of energy balls to kill it with, and it couldnt have been easier...

good ending though ;D

I agree, I thought that the last chapter was another level too!

It was a good ending and it fit the game perfectly (I enjoyed it the second time through more than the first)-- it's just not a 'satisfying' ending where everything wraps up nicely.

Storywise the ending was fine, and expected.

Gameplay however...

I dunno, the final "boss" wasn't nearly as difficult to kill as gunships or striders. Kind of anticlimatic.

Notice that you lost the game if you didn't manage to take Breen out before he reached the top.

There was a final boss that could kill you. Time. ;)

I thought the ending was a little abrupt, too, but I still liked it. God, there was so much information packed into so few words in the Gman's final monologue!

"I trust that it will all make sense to you in the course of well... I'm really not at liberty to say...."

"Rather an anticlimax after what you've just survived...."

(Go G-Man!)

Ah, but that was HL1.
Gman should've ended HL2 with "What you've just survived was rather an anticlimax" :p

meh, I loved that matrix feel to it, but, it seemed like Valved didn't have a single clue on how to end it.

you get the impression that orginally the ending was longer adn they cut it to fit with the bginning of hl3, well thats wot it seemed like to me. also da endin was sad well i fought it was :)
