So you've been to E3 hmm.. 10 times? That's pretty cool.:D
It was established in '95 iirc, and if you attended everyone except this years one, that'd be 10 years.O_O How old are you really?xD

No, I've been twice. Perhaps I should have worded my response better. :)

yes I remember your comments last year on being there ...that's too bad, would have liked to hear your impressions of some of the games there ... was going to send you to the Funcon booth to have a look at Age of Conan (one my most anticipated games of this year) ..ah well hopefully you'll go next year

Its interesting that Battlefields next game is going to be rather similar in terms of level of game technology. Looks like an interesting showdown, depending on release dates of course.

Actually, the technology in ET:QW is superior... Since John Carmack is once again working on a new engine, they put a few of his ideas that were ready (MegaTextures and such), and put them in the engine... With all these improvements, I _REALLY_ can't wait to see in probably a year or two to see what Carmack has been brewing in the lab ;)

ET:QW rocks, and TBH, it is quite a bit different than BF2... BF2 is all about controlling points around the map and obviously modern combat.... ET:QW is more objective-based and is set in a different universe. These are sort of two seperate niche's within the same genre, so there might be some people who will stop playing BF2 to go to ET:QW, but battlefield will for sure live on.

The tech in quakewars is ages beyond the new BFgame. Battlefield 2142 looks like shit compared to QuakeWars. The tech BF is using is way out dated. Plus im not really impressed with what they did. Ill still get it doesnt mean ill play it tho.

Okay I've clearly been unclear in my meaning.

What I ment was ingame technology. IE the level of technology that the players use to blow 7 bells out of each other.

As for game engine, well Quakewars looks the part. Little worried about how mega we'll need the PC to be to actually chug that at a reasonable frame rate, but wow.

Battlefield has a running staple, QW has ET behind it. Should be interesting

yes you will need a high end card for full settings,

Supposedly it has the same requirements as Doom 3 because of engine optimisations.

All those comments comparing this to BF2142, I think that BF actually looks pretty interesting. Before 2142 was revealed, I was completely behind Quake Wars, but 2142 actually seems like it could open up possibilities for very interesting strategies instead of just being a game that is won by people with the best aim.

Thats because it runs off the QUAKE 4 engine... hence the name!

WTF, where did the Doom 3 idea come from?

Its run off the doom 3 engine it just uses the quake 4 universe!

That sounds dumb. Why not just use the Quake 4 engine. Although it was rather pants.

Actually, Splash Damage has been using a 6800 to show off the game so far. They say that most people will get better performance in Quake Wars than in Quake 4. MegaTexture actually drastically improves performance, as it decreases the memory used for the terrain texturing. The MegaTexture on the terrain has 6GB of data, but it only uses 8MB of video RAM. :)

And to clear up any confusion, both Quake 4 and Quake Wars use the Doom 3 engine.

battlefield 2 done right i hope!

So how much hard drive space is this going to take up? I'm hearing that these megatextures are 6GB? That's impossible, considering the game will have 12 maps.

Looks like a mix of Battlefield 2 and Ghost Recon.

Whats the megatextures about? What does it improve?

I'm not sure, but I think megatextures mean they use one massive texture for the ground instead of tiles of a smaller one.

i love teh mega texture im picking this game when it comes out :D

I was sent on quite a few 'errands' the first year I went to get impressions of a particular game. That was back when I was a part of the IGN Insider community. Good times. :)

I don't think I'll be attending again any time soon. My education has become very demanding as of late and I'm finding it harder and harder to keep up in the video game world.

Here's some of my pics from last year's E3:

How exactly did you get into E3? I thought you had to be involved with a magazine or website.
