That's the crash error I get when I try to start a new game in Half life 2, then a memory error occurs after that. Started a few days ago and was driving me crazy so I ununstalled, reinstalled, updated drivers, verified files, everything I can think of to fix this! Similar errors also plague Counterstrike Source, but I can play it occasionally.

The game played without too much trouble since the stuttering problems within the first few weeks I had the game.

I've tried writing Valve, but they have not responded other than an automated message.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem?:x

No one has even viewed this message in 8 hours? Helloooo is this thing on? (tap...tap)

Only thing I can think of is to download GCF Scape, goto your SteamApps folder and use GCF Scape to open the file "source models.gcf".

This works a little bit like a .zip file. When in there go and locate hl2\models\gman_high.vvd and click on it and click on Extract. Extract it to the following folder (may vary depending on your drive letter/account name):

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Sickmind\Half-Life 2\hl2\models

There's no reason I can forsee then that that wouldn't work. The other thing to do is to right click on Half-Life 2 in the games list and make sure it is fully updated. If it's only at 98% then it may not be able to open that file.

Technically as well, you could try and see if a friend has the file that they could e-mail you or put on a disk for you as it's only 400kb. Technically though, I believe you could count that as piracy so use your own discretion when deciding to do that.

Thanks Chris. You're a good man. I'll try it and see how it goes.

Changing texture quality to medium works. Change it back to high after the Gman intro. I have a feeling you will run into more errors after that too. A lot of people are getting these types of errors after one of the last updates. Here is the rather long topic at the Steam forum.

This EXACT same thing happened to me the other day after I intalled my new video card. I can play previously started games no problem, but I can't start one. I'll try what Chris said too, I guess

^ I visit this site everyday...I just kinda lurk around :) Scary ain't it?

I thought this error happens with certain ATi drivers, mainly the new ones. I would suggest rolling back to an earlier set of drivers.

well I was having a similar issue. I just bought a All in Wonder X800 XT 256meg and I started getting this error, about some woode .dll not being found. I deleted hl2 then re-installed and now it works fine.
