You know what, find a room on the side of the lobby, carefully place your turrets so they all out-of-reach by combine soldiers and manhack and head outside, then grab those barrels, place inside the room also, so that combine can't walk it. Stand close to the turrets so they wouldn't fall if they got knocked over. Shoot for manhacks, the turrets will take care the rest. Also if you got grenaded-in, use gravity gun to throw them out, so if you hold the gravity gun, you pretty much can do lots of things, grab manhacks and grenade..., and just wait till the storm is over. Save game before you place the last turret so if the turrets fall, you can reload. :)

Once you start getting creative in ways to defend yourself, it's actually not that hard. I got an idea from some guy which is how I beat it on hard mode. From the earlier part where you have to hold out, I carried an extra turret, two metal tables, and two file cabinets. MY GOD, was that annoying; especially on the part where you have to get accross the room with electrified water.

Once I got to the last little hold-out-place, I got some stuff from the office upstairs before you jump down, walled off an entire side of the room where the three turrets are, then made a small barricade on the other end. Not only that, but I had four turrets

And you know, actually, it's not a certain number of troops you have to kill, it's a time limit. Two guards came from each direction the first time, and one pair wouldn't go around the other side (because their side was walled off), and I had to try to aim through the cracks in the wall... with the pistol. It wasn't working out, so I obliterated the wall, mowed them down, them Alyx came.

read what I said here.

bah, why would you go to all that effort? I finished that section on hard last night, yeah it was tough and took me a number of attempts but anyone should be able to get past it eventually. I used a combination of holding up in a cell and running around like mad with the shottie. Don't forget about your explosive secondary attacks.

Prolly not the most efficient method but it worked. Definately one of the most frustrating parts of the game.

I personally want to build a big, HUGE, fort in that level.

Like, an entire barricade. Filling up the entire hallway, so I can take another turret with me and have 2 turrets per entrance.

Sounds like an idea to me! :D

It would be a tad hard having to carry all that junk, though! but something like this would work..

Table (Top)
Radiators (Two for a little space on each side)
Another table (Base, bottom)

So there would be a little crack hopefully big enough for my turrets to shoot through, and then I would go back and forth fixing my forts as they get destroyed! Or get a little MORE creative, and build a crazy nade catcher thingy..

I think i've rambled on for too long. Sorry to bore you. :D

I remember the first time i played that part of the game on the hard difficulty setting, it was ****in HARD, and i cheated my way through it

On my 2nd play through the game, i was determined not to cheat at all since i wasnt in a rush to complete the game

i setup a few turrets and ran into one of the little prison cells with a table. I placed the table inside the cell, up against the door entrance.

i then crouched right behind the table so that most of my body was protected.

When the combine came lookin for me, they shot down all of my turrets, but when it came to shooting me, they tried but failed miserably. They would run right up to my and my table shield and their heads would be clearly visible for a headshot. They always moved to the same spot too. So i just whipped out the magnum and shotgun and blasted.

Nice and easy

Remove turrets one at a time and turn them 180 degrees and put them back in the cubbies. They cannot be knocked down when placed this way.
Then crouch down in the free (fourth) cubby with shotty and pick off the soldiers the turrets miss.

(Edited for spelling)

Two steps to even the odds:

- Take the turrets from the previous encounter
- block the entrances with the cabinets you find outside the little "arena" in which the poop hits the whirly device.

Bahaha. Made a super barricade and grenade catcher. It owned.

Basically somthing like this:

wbbbbw

yyyyy
xx

Y = ONE table (The length of it)
X = Turret
w = Wooden crate
B = Barrel

The barrels caught all the nades, and they would go flying. didn't mind my turrets at all, and then it gave my turrets a greater line of fire anyway.

Pure ownage. :)
