Hi, Enter the Tribes has been around for 2 years now and has been under development for some time. Due to a recent loss of a coder (he got a new job) we are searching for a coder to help us out with our development. Coders must be very comfort working with the source sdk and have a great understanding of it. You will join a friendly hardworking team and will have the chance to be part of something bigger.

We are also in need of mappers, to create large scale jungle areas for our mod.

All interested please e-mail me at the e-mail at the bottom or add me to msn or icq at:

Leaving the first public information below.

Short Background:

Enter the Tribes lets players travel into the deep Amazon jungle in a massive tribal war between two tribes (yet to be named). As a tribe member their objective is to evolve their tribe and slowly (or fast) kill the enemy that lures in the shadow. This will only be possible using teamplay

Area of Gameplay:

The Amazon jungle offers unique terrain which varies from thick jungle to open fields. With the Tribes having their village in the cover of the jungle players will have to think out a strategy of either going through the jungle or through the open fields. Curtain area’s will contain chopable trees which allows the tribes to gather ressources from there these ressources are limited though and will dissappear after all trees are chopped down. Meanwhile another place in the map will spawn a new set of trees that are chopable getting the players to also look for ressources while sneaking into the enemy.

Another area for ressources is large stone deposits. Players use these to get stone for their weapons.

Eventhough stone isn’t required for all weapons, they give a bonus to damage when used on weapons.

Through the area vicious animals will roam around the map being both dangerous to warriors but especially to ressource gatherers. Leaving ressource gatherers unprotected can sometimes result in a huge backstep to the tribe because of lack of ressources ie. Lack of weapons and defensive structures.

The Villages:

Each tribe have their tribe village which is where players will spawn when the game start and when they die. Several kind of huts will be available for construction in the village. Each with their own unique benefit.

General Huts:

Building these will result in the spawn rate becomming slightly faster and with a maximum of 3 of these huts spawn rate can be made 25% faster than normal.

Shaman Huts:

Building one of these huts will make healing available to players within close range of the AI shaman. He will slowly heal players in need of healing but it will not function if players are in combat in front of the hut. These huts are limited to one

Worker Huts:

Building one of these huts will make players able to improve their ressource gathering tools. Players can make new tools that will speed up the process of gathering ressources. These huts are limited to one.

Warrior Huts:

This Hut will be available from the start. Players will be able to build basic weapons from wooden clubs to small sling-shots. These weapons will be the most basic in the game and new huts will allow for better and bigger weapons in the game. These are limited to one.

Improved Warrior Huts:

Building one of these will grant players access to better and an improved amount of weapons. Players will now be able to build stoneaxes, a spear, a bow and finally a wooden shield to be used together with the axes. These are limited to one.

Hut of fighting spirit:

This hut with a large cost of ressources will grant players access to the best (and most ressource requiring) weapons in the game. Players will now be able to build all the available weapons in the game depending on how much ressources they have.

Defensive Hut:

This hut will grant builders access to small defensive construction methods such as small wooden walls and small traps. This hut will give a great benefit when you are protecting your tribe village and might give you those extra seconds you need for a new respawn. These are limited to one.

--

The huts (aswell as defensive wooden walls) will be placed on preset building spots, to ensure players will not be able to cave everything in. Once placed they will not be removeable unless destroyed, so choose carefully when you build a hut (ie. You dont want important huts to be closest to the enemy)

When ressources are brought back from players the ressources just have to be dropped inside the village area for people to be able to build from them. Unless the player who gathered the ressources allows the hut to use his ressources he will be the only one able to build weapons from them (or he can grant one other player allowance to make sure a constant flow will go on) This will ensure that players won’t wait at the tribe for hard working tribe members to come back with their ressources.

The Weapons:

Wooden Club:

Being available from the start the Wooden Club gives up to 42 damage per hit depending on where you hit. Hitting the head means instant kill. This can be dual wielded or used together with a shield. This axe is produced from wood.

Stoneaxe:

Improved Warrior huts introduces the stoneaxe to the tribe. Players will be able to build stoneaxes dealing up to 70 damage per hit. Hitting the head means instant kill. This weapon can be dual wielded or used with a shield. This axe is made from wood and stone.

Greater Stoneaxe:

Hut of the fighting spirit lets players build the Greater Stoneaxe. With a max damage of 90, players will be able to slash people to low health in one single hit. Hitting the head means instant kill. This weapon can be dual wielded or used with a shield

Sling-shot:

Being available from the start players will be able to build a sling-shot, it being the first ranged weapon it has a maximum damage of 55 depending on where the enemy is hit. Hitting the head is instant kill. Though this weapon can do some damage the precision is not that accurate. This weapon is made from wood but bare in mind that this weapon require wooden or stone bullets to function.

Wooden bullets

Standart ammunition for the Sling-shot giving no benefit to damage. These are made from wood.

Stone bullets

Stone bullets gives a +6 to damage. These are made from stone.

Bow:

Improved warrior huts introduces the bow to the tribe. Players will be able to hit the enemy from a further distance and with much larger precision. Dealing up to 62 damage the bow does not only improve range and accuracy but also damage compared to the sling-shot. This weapon is made from wood but bare in mind that this weapon requires wooden, stoneedged or poisoned arrows to function.

Wooden arrows

Standart ammunition for the Bow giving no benefits to damage. These are made from wood.

Stoneedged arrows

Stoneedged arrows gives +12 to damage but are more complicated to make. These are made from wood and stone.

Poisoned arrows

Poisoned arrows are stoneedged arrows with poison from the shaman in the shaman hut. These bullets deals +12 damage +2 damage every 6 seconds untill the enemy gets cured by their shaman or if he dies. These are very effective but requires a Shaman Hut to be built. These are made from wood, stone and poison from the shaman hut.

Wooden spear:

Being available from the start the wooden spear has a long attack range. Dealing up to 38 damage the spear is good for pushing the enemy back. This weapon is made from wood.

Stoneedged spear:

The improved warrior huts introduces a new stoneedged spear which does more damage than the wooden spear. With a maximum damage of 60 the stoneedged spear almost doubles the damage given compared to the wooden spear. This weapon is made from stone and wood.

Longspear:

The hut of fighting spirit let players build the Longspear. With an improved range players will be able to hit players from an even futher range. Dealing up to 62 damage the longspear doesn’t have a great benefit in damage but the improved range makes up for that. This weapon is made from wood and stone.

Lesser wooden shield:

Being available from the start players will be able to build lesser wooden shields. These shields have a very fast reaction time due to their small weight. Shields are good for blocking slashes from axes or attack from a spear. They are also effective against bullets and arrows. This shield absorbs up to 500 damage before breaking apart. This shield is made from wood.

Wooden Shield:

The improved warrior hut let players get an improved wooden shield. Players will now be able to absorb up to 800 damage and get a slightly slower reaction time. This shield is made from wood.

Greater Wooden shield:

The hut of fighting spirit let people build a greater wooden shield which has a reaction time slower than both the lesser wooden shield and the wooden shield. Besides that the Greater Wooden shield is also able to absorb 1200 damage before breaking apart. This shield is made from wood.

· Have in mind. All blasts to the head is instant kill

· More Weapons exist but are not public yet.
When killed the weapons will drop to the ground and stay there for 50 sec whereafter they will despawn. This has been made to control that the ressource system is kept in balance and that a constant flow is needed for the tribe to survive. Shields can also be picked up but keep in mind that the shields have a maximum damage absorb amount and maybe it is close..

Sounds interesting, but don't you think that a game taking place in dense jungle enviroments would be better suited to FarCry's Crytek engine rather than Source? I mean, FarCry was built to handle that kind of enviroment, where as Source really wasn't. Don't you think you're making it a bit harder on yourself by using an engine that isn't meant for the enviroments you want? I'm curious as to exactly why you chose Source for this game.

Cyanide is right, Source is designed for more CLOSED QUARTERS COMBAT than WIDE OPEN COMBAT. Sure the Engine can handle large areas, but try doing one in an ONLINE environment with 32 plus players and tons of TREE models with loads of vegetation on each. You won't like the results. FarCry is the best choice. Battlefield II would be another good bet if you have a system to run it.

actually we have already gotten great results with source. Another great feature source will be offering soon is the HDR which only will improve the game further more. Sure the game will use a bit more ressources than counter-strike but it is still in between reasonable limits. (keep in mind that we aren't new we already have several builds working fine)

Hmm...I'd like to see some of those maps if you say you're able to pull off FarCry-like vegitation in Source.

who said Farcry like vegetation besides you. we have a jungle area didnt say how it looked but no worries you will be able to see it soon

Yea but HDR won't make the game fun if it's lagging like hell.

Well then how exactly are you doing a jungle enviroment without being "farcry like"?

We have jungle area's just not as "pretty" as farcry's vegetation. But it still looks ok and doesn't make the game lag! our mapper uses another method to make the jungle using not that many tree's as you could imagine. so it still looks nice and spares the system ressources
