Yep, another mod off the list and added to a bigger project. Entropy, POI, and GC are now all working together to create a great mod. GC's sp aspect will tie in with Entropy and POI's mp aspect in terms of setting and story (near future). The single player will be Grey City, before Entropys post-apocalyptic story. Grey City is the prequel to their online adventure. The only difference to Grey City is it's more towards the future. Think The Sixth Day type of technology without the Arnold clones.

Yeah, that's my fear :)
Do you have a megabyte (hehe, gigabyte) budget or something guinny? Or will it be in two parts?

Your gonna need one hell of a team to do all that. Dont get me wrong, mergers are great but they become a logistical nightmare, especially if everybody has a different idea of what the mod will be.

We've all got the idea set, and our enormous team is working together. There's about 30 somewhat of us, and we all keep in contact and we all know what each other is working on. Our coders and mappers are standing by and learning more each day until they can put their skills to use. And as for harddrive space budget, all I can say is under 2 gigs. :)

Under 2 gigs...thats a lot of downloading :(

One problem with a huge team is a broad range of quality, skill and style, this may not be a problem for you but i would be disappointed if the mod idea was excellent but let down by a lack of cosistency

more like 40 members, Entropy already haas 30 members. 3 mods merging is never a good thing. especially with thetheme difference

if you ask me thats too many members... 10 is usualy plenty, more than that you people are idle or inactive for a long time.

Hm...I don't know what our range of skill is, you tell me (note its a WIP from one of our 10 modelers):

All our modelers are somewhere in this skill range. We have several coders who are directly from the gaming industry, and I believe our only need is skinners, and I think we're ok there, just not sure.

2gb is ALOT. And innaccesable for anyone with less than broadband (or pseudo broadband). But then they can get my mod instead, maybe around 2mb :)

Its always a problem. I stopped downloading BF1942 mods when they got so bloated it was insane. One release they where 100mb. The next 500mb. And that's still just 50% done. And I still have capability of downloading at 60kb/s, enough for rather large files.
So dont scare away people... It isnt a good idea. Easy access can do alot. But of course less pretty, hehe.

Tsk. I said UNDER 2gb. :) I'm just playing with you guys. Here you guys estimate it. Here's the features list: http://gcmod.city-17.net/features.php

How many gb do YOU think it'd take? Here's the deal, if you guess right you win beta testing. :p

1.296gb. But that's assuming real high quality textures are used.

:)

Heh. I'd find out where you live if the final product turns out to be 1.296gb and ask you to be my pyschic.

I also been thinking about the teamsize (i thought about it before too) and i still think its a little high and it will be a pain in the ass to get everyone on the same track and work....ill just wait and see...maybe it gonna sort it self out in time...

Like I said before:

If Entropy (is it still called that?) ends up being over a gig or so, maybe you could also have the option for people to order it on CD or DVD. They would have to pay money (obviously) but as an added bonus they get to use their bandwidth on other things.

Our mod isn't really planning on making people spend money. However, if it does result in being so high of a space eater, we'll find some way of distributing it either through steam (for free) or private servers to download from.

Entropy looked like quite a promising mod. Too bad you guys merged.... ;(

You dont have to play it. Funny, Entropys mod hasn't changed at all. Just got more devs. Your weird people.

Sounds like if you lose people you'll still have plenty :)

I'll make room if this becomes a great mod, but I do have DSL so it would suck to download.

So its Entropy Point of Impact: Grey City? Is it gonna be shortened? Is it still GTA similar? Its gonna be kinda interesting with warfare, futuristic stuff, and GTAesque mixed together :)

wow what an exciting venture i would have loved to be part of this mod why didnt u recruit me stupid fools ;)

It's an interesting project ya, but I think the team size is going to suck, Breed (the game, you know, the really ambitios one) had only 10 members :p.... I prefer elite teams personally, but still, best of luck, and I do want to play this :)

Just as i do. A small team with teammembers that can do several things.

But thats how i like to work, it dosnt mean that its the best way to go :)

If the team manages to stay together and communicate i think they could make it work. It's just that everybody got to have the same goal and have the ambition. Otherwise it will surely fail :/

well its not really one team its 2 seperate teams one is working on the mp and one is working on sp.

Ok, this has made a me a little unsure about the origins of your idea. Sure, it's a GOOD idea - I just find it a *little* odd how you announce this so far after you planned the mod. Infact, I feel that you guys got the idea from a *certain* other mod, and I can asure you the team are less then happy about it. The MP and SP part of things also furthers this issue, yet it wasn't a original idea, as valve first did it. I hope to hear this is NOT the case.

Big deal, the strongest will survive and the other will just look stupid...

Ok, I don't want ANY bad blood between teams, since that is pointless and stupid at this stage, since neither of us even have code in place. Lets not feud over something stupid. k?

Aw, fiddlesticks...

y do mods merge, is it because they are too weak?

3 mods is ridiculous, especially when they don't have the same theme. and when they7'll have 40-50 members.

It may be cause they are weak, but not in this case. Similar interest I suppose. And the more the merrier :)
Though I personally think that for a mod, 40-50 people are far to much, the entire mod would be to large in the end. Even 10 people is much for me. But that's just me. I'm sure this mod will work out just fine. And if there's problem, they can always split again, its enough people for that :)

Ok just to clear a few things up.

1. We will never make the mod have any profit behind it.
2. We aren't an enormous team, even with 3 mods, there's about 20 some-what of us. We have 2 professional coders, 10 modelers (which we need because theres going to be 36 weapons, and 40 cars to drive in the game), around 5 skinners, 5 animators, and 3 mappers (who have the biggest job, constructing the enormous city)
3. http://gcmod.city-17.net <--go here to see what we're implementing, it's got a GTA feel to it, but NOT GTA, you know? It will be in first person, and Sixth-Day movie type futuristic without the Arnold clones. ;)
4. We respect every other mod team out there, and if they feel we're copying or biting their work off, or any other problem, contact us and we'll gladly discuss it until a good solution could be made.:)
5. Good luck to everyone making a mod or helping a mod, and to all fans of mods, without you we're nothing.

10 modellers and 5 skinners.. you do know that skinning takes up way more time then modelling, do you?

Btw, you also need one good webdesigner
