im trying to make a city map and i have my buildings. I also have a 3d skybox i wanted to have one light to light up outside but i cant get it to work. everythign is dark except for the sky is ther another tutorial someone could re-direct me to? i read the tut's at akilling and interlopers.

-90 is great if the map is set somewhere between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn at high noon during a season pertinent to the latitude ;)

Stick a light_environment in your map and target it to the ground at an angle from your light.

Play with the funny numbers.

Copy one of these into your skybox.

Done.

hmmm see i tried these things is their a sample map that somone knows of that has a 3d sky box in it?

All of Valve's example maps, to my knowledge, are outdoors.

Erm, interlopers does have plenty of tutorials on this thing, and if you post in "Level Design Help" you will get quick help!

yeah i have 2 light_enviroments in my map total, 1 in the small sky box and one in to size map out in the open then i put my sun in the small 3d sky box but everything is supper supper dark i have to use my flash light. i tried interlopers too.

You need a light_env in your actual map and in the 3D skybox. The brushwork/models in the 3D skybox WILL block light coming from the light_env though.

If you think about it in the sense that the sky is BEHIND your 3D skybox objects.

You only need one light_environment in your map. It generates light from the skybox, ie any part of the map with the toolsskybox texture will generate light. The entity can be either in the minimap or in the regular map. Brushes and models in the minimap will cast shadows onto the regular map.
