Ep. 1 Worth it?

I'll probably buy it along with Ep2 and play them in succession. I saw the Ep2 trailer on some site and it blew me away.
Ep1... not so much, but necessary.

ill be the first to say the game sucked for the most part. the gameplay was meh. it was too short, and too repetitive. most importantly it answered nothing. some of the quotes from the npcs amused me but thats it.

if i had known what it was going to be like i still would have bought it but at LEAST not until ep2 was released. that way i wouldnt have been like wtf when it ended out of nowhere. so really its not the game itself that sucked but this "episode" crap valve is pulling.

but was it worth it you ask? sure why not after all 20 bucks = toilet paper.

I paid twice the Steam price and I even think it was worth it.

Edit: How does everyone 'know' how long it took them to complete? I have no friggin' idea how long it took me!

Took me around 4-5 hours to beat. Playing on Easy doesn't count, and speeding through it is naturally a waste of money.

Enough subtle changes to gameplay, an advancement of the plot, interesting and worthwhile commentary features, and all in all more HL2 goodness. Wasn't disappointed in the least, and thought it was well worth the money spent.

And it sure as hell beats the crap out of waiting another 3-6 years for another installment. With Episode 2 coming out before the end of the year, I'd consider myself a convert to the concept of episodic content.

For ****'s sake, what is it people judging whether to buy a game on how long it is? Ever heard of a thing called quality not quantity? By the logic some of you employ, you wouldn't mind paying more to see a longer film at the cinema, even if it was dross.

Well, I think quality and quantity do relate to eachother in games. Although the quality of the gameplay in EP1 is incredibly high the quantity is low. The result is
a slight unsatisfied feeling in the end (for me it was only slightly, for other people a bit more). This is because the games doesn't form a complete picture, it's not a whole game. I believe this is a fair reason to not like EP1, especially because the other Hl games created by Valve WERE such complete games!

Oh...and the argument that Valve never 'promised' to create a large game is not an argument. Just because Valve never claimed to deliver a large complete game does not mean the length can't be flaw.

I guess we should all wait until E3 is released before replaying E1, playing E2 and E3 for the first time, so it seems like a full game. That way, no one can tell off anyone else for being too picky. Everyone agree? Now let's all gather around a virtual fireplace and exchange funniest HL moments. :p

To be honest, EP1 couldn't have been any better.

Seriously, it really couldn't. It was everything I wanted and more. Better than I expected and even more than I wanted.
