I sure hope so. After the detail-rich trek through HL2, the first episodic sequel seemed very light on incidental details--a fact not helped by the absence of the G-man.

Gabe's recent interview with Eurogamer suggests that there will be many little nuggets of interest and exposition scattered around the maps for intrepid gamers to find.

Here's hoping.

Yeah that would be cool. I hope they put in more easter eggs than in ep1. The portal reference should be intersting.

Of course there will be references to Portal. According to an interview you learn more about Aperture Science in EP2 then actually in Portal. So Technically it wont be a easter egg.

What about the "Project" Dr. Mossman was looking for in the arctic?
whats the project? aperture science enrichment center? or just another part of plot yet to be discovered?

People are saying cords on the ASEC web page point to the Arctic.

They say they're going for a "mini-epic".

I hope this means lots of little nice plot-nuggets like the Antlion life-cycle.

Hopefully the hive antlions will have idle animations, so they won't just attack you on sight.

Then again, not even the Kwama in Morrowind were that well done...

:O maybe your right... cos we know that mossman is at an arctic base/research facility, and we havnt heard where the aperture science place is gona be yet.... lets wait and find out

The trailer shows that they can run on the walls, apparently not attacking the player straightaway so your wish may be granted.

Yes but remember things can change between the time the trailer was made and the release date, best to just take things as they come :)

ah, your right they could never do that before, this should be fun

You're an intruder into their territory where they keep their babies - why wouldn't they attack you on sight?
Well, smell technically but y'know.

Hive entities such as bees have no idea what to do with you if you bypass their defenses. They just assume you're meant to be there.

I assume the antlions would just leave you alone if you left their young be, and do whatever they do. It'd be nice. Besides which it would be nice to see what they do if they don't see you. Normal antlions just... stay there.:|

I'm pretty sure the Antlions will attack on sight; it isn't like it's going to be this big ol' free for all chapter. Valve usually build specific gameplay, so I suspect they will have to attack you for that to work. You can avoid them by not standing on the grubs, though...(I think?)

And what's more there's alot of normal antlions down there that will attack you.

It sounds like if you step on or kill the grubs with weapons, it will spawn Antlions and Antlion Workers immediately that attack you.

As the Vortigaunt said, "We recommend sense."

I seem to remember reading that killing the grubs gives you a bit of extra health, but it does attract the attentions of antlions who weren't previously on your case. This doesn't mean that they won't attack you if you don't kill their young though.

I wonder how they're going to tie in the extra health bit. Do you have to eat it?

*Silence.

Whoops, my bad. Could've sworn he said sense.

It would be fun to see some antlions just going about their hive duties. I'm sure Valve will capitalise on that, though, probably through scripted sequences. What I'd like to see even more, would be actual dynamic AI for hive duties, that would be very fun. It wouldn't have to be that complex, as long as what they're doing is interesting.

EDIT:

So did I. Damnit, sense would be so much cooler than silence :hmph:
I think the grubs were meant to give you extra suit power, BTW. I think I heard it here somewhere though, so it's nothing final. I really hope they don't do that though, because it's just... stupid. So obviously, blatantly stupid. In fact, it's "omg they has teh glowing so they givs teh POWAAAHHH!!!111!" stupid.

There are no medkits or batteries in the hives, so the Vortigaunt gives you suit energy, while the grubs give you health, I think that's how it works.

Don't like the health bit but I guess it's a gameplay necesity.

Medkits from dead corpses, please. Gaining health from the "new" way is extremely dumb and feels like a arcade game.

STEPPED ON GRUB - HEALTH :+ 10 SCORE : +30

:hmph:

QFT.

At the very worst maybe a Xen pool?

Well the grubs give you suit energy according to an interview.

Ehh. As I understand it, stepping on the grubs alerts the... workers? ... to your presence, so it's not a "hi here's some free health" situation - you have to make a choice, of sorts. Better than finding improbable medkits everywhere.

The hives are huge from what we've seen.

I just want the antlions who are far away not to bother with you, and do whatever it is they do. We've seen a bit of this in the gameplay videos (glowy antlions randomly passing about). It'd be nice if they gave us a vista where we see the antlions doing antlioney things.

I absolutely don't mind making it alert other antlions, but giving you a bonus of some sort just isn't HL style.
