Episode 2 CGI ?

YES!!! thanks for the pictures. With the speed of the video i had assumed they were rocks

So, since is looks like you are in a antlion hive, if thats what you call them, does this mean you will get to fight the antlion queen? The one that is so big that you can stand in between it's toes?

Oh great, whats better then going into a antlion hive thats filled with 100 or more antlions!! :O Sounds like fun?? :S

I hope we'll fight more than Antlions in Episode Two, I would definitely like to see old Xen creatures return.
Imagine this; You get surrounded by two Striders, while you think this is it you suddenly hear a load roar behind the trees, you look at the direction of the sound and see trees falling down to the ground. And surprise, surprise, a large Gargantua brute forces through the wood and starts ripping the Striders to pieces. Saving your ass.
I'm glad to see that the Vortigaunts are playing a bigger role in this episode though.

By the way, is it just me or doesn't the color on the Antlion Guard in the cavern look a little different to that we've fought previously?

Oh, one more thing I noticed now. The picture with the ministrider dropping from the sky when Gordon walks towards the exit. That looks very similar to the entrance of Black Mesa East, doesn't it? Did the rebels have outposts out in the wilderness too? Or perhaps it's just a coincident. Damn, I can't wait to see more of Episode Two.

CGI as in Pre-Rendered video cuts

I agree with you, earlier trailers for HL2 and episode 1 have been from Gordons perspective, but I would say a 5th of the episode 2 trailer contained 1st person shots. The others parts looked like it was by camera

The same can be said of the Episode One Trailers though.

All ep 1 trailers where 90% camera. That doesnt change anything. This isnt CGI valve doesnt make CGI things.

I think most writers would say that that's the best way to do it. They've built up this great involvement with the character, and the player has personally been with her through thick and thin. In this way, her death becomes less "matter-of-fact", with the player's reaction being a bit of apathy, to "OMGZ ALYX NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"!!
Indeed, but at the same time, they wouldn't have the player involved with a character in a game and then Kill her off in the Teaser trailer for the next chapter. If Alyx dies, the above is a missed opportunity, because we already know she dies and therefore, the only time we're going to go "OMGZ ALYX NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" is in that little Teaser. I'm pretty sure no-one did. It's obiviously something minor or something that gets reversed, or they've just killed everything they worked for.

edit: Also, I don't mind the 2D skybox at all. Regardless, I think people are just going to have to get used to the idea of a 2D skybox for a view like that. If they did 3D, it would like five times shitter. You need to have so much detail in a shot showing an entire city! Besides, we know Valve isn't above 2D skyboxes, because we saw one when on the Citadel, and that was the only other City-wide view we've ever had as well.

I think Episode Two might be due for a couple of art passes - the wreckage above that circular shaft looks slightly familiar...

Hmm, that could also display an old abandoned WW2 base in Russia (yes I know it's cliched). It's a common fact that villians and rebels alike build their super secret bases in abandoned WW2 bases...

Nothing in that video was CGI. It was fairly obvious.
Yeap.

What makes you say it was CGI? It's not good looking enough to be CGI.

For those of you saying that the trailer wasn't CGI... I'm sorry, but it was. As have been all of Valve's other trailers. CGI == Computer Generated Imagery. All in-game or in-engine clips qualify as CGI. So technically, all of Valve's products to date have been CGI. :p

Y-..b-...YEAH WELL MAYBE YOUR DENIAL OF HER BEING DEAD IS PROOF THAT THE WRITERS DEVELOPED A STRONG RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND ALYX AND WHEN THEY KILL HER OFF YOU WERE SO RESISTANT TO THE IDEA BEFORE THAT YOU WILL GO "OH NOZZZZZZ" NYAH HA HA HA HA HA *runs away*
