so that thing in the portal 2 messages refering to 3.11, do we think valve may be giving an episode 3 announcement for GDC? I sure hope so.

No. There's no reason to suggest that this is likely. With GameInformer's coverage of Portal 2 running tothe end of March, why would Valve completely overshadow it with an Episode 3 announcement.
Plus the information you're going off came from the ARG for PORTAL 2. Episode 3 was neither mentioned, nor hinting it.
Clutching.
At.
Straws.

I voted No just to make Pi happy.

Someone is tampering with the results!

As much as I wished 3/11 brought a Episode 3 announcement, I don't think its gonna happen.

However, if it does I will be very pleased.

dumb thread

I'm inclined to believe they'll announce it. Why? Because I'll be in class during the GDC awards, and with my luck I'd miss an announcement.

Honestly though, there's not really any reason to believe they'd announce it.

No, for reasons stated above. It would overshadow the Portal 2 announcement. Maybe later in the spring or in the summer, you never know.

Where's the "No way to tell." button?

More likely than not they're showing off some new Portal 2 stuff, and will announce Episode 3 news some other time

i think the fact portal 2 getting a full game suggest perhaps episode 3 will now be a full new half life game in 2011?

I am sick to death of people talking about announcing things at the GDC.

THE GDC IS NOT A GAMES EXPO. It's for came developers to come together and talk about game developing.

The only reason valve is going is so gabe can accept an award and they can interview new employees.

I'm new here, hey!
If they do not announce it on the 11th, I will be shocked, how can they keep so quite for so long and not be working on it secretly? If they were actually putting it off they'd probably give some time range or at least tell that they haven't even been working on it.
Just sayin', it could go either way honestly. Don't hate on me I just am having some wishful thinking

Why would they announce it on the 11th? That destroys most hype for Portal 2 that they created with these latest patches, and ruins chances to sell it. Think man, THINK.

And so they can announce Portal 2.

Which, last I checked, they did the Friday before GDC.

I seriously doubt they're going to release Ep3 this year. If Portal 2 will be any good, it's probably going to be a technical challenge, and releasing both Ep3 and Portal 2 this year would be difficult from a logistical standpoint.

They have already announced portal 2. The GDC is nothing like E3, i don't understand why people are talking about it as if it is. Game developers don't announce games and showcase games there.

I think the fact that the world spins in a counter clockwise direction that it suggests Half Life will be turned into a Left 4 Dead game called "Left 4 Half Dead" in which Gordon Freeman and Bill have a long, hot, passionate, love scene where Gordon says his first words which will be "pound me like a 14 year old school girl, whose step father has gotten very drunk and lost all inhibitions."

I think people talk about Valve announcing games there because Valve is announcing a game there.

As i said, the GDC is a place where developers announce games, i don't see what people don't understand about that. It's not bloody E3, each dev doesn't have a platform and they get up and showcase games. The developers gather to talk, and interview new devs for there team.

And if they did actually announce games at GDC, what games would valve be announcing?

It's certainly not portal 2 since that has been announced, and it certainly won't be episode 3.

Portal 2.

Or are you going to try to claim that the announcement of Portal 2 two business days prior to the GDC is just a coincidence?

They've already announced Portal 2. Why would they be announcing it again?

Saying that ``They announced it two days before the GDC'' is not ``They announced it at the GDC'' is a distinction without a difference.

Also, they are expected to announce Steam for Macintosh at the GDC.

What?

Valve announced Portal 2 before the GDC. Their announcement has nothing to do with GDC.
So what game would Valve be announcing at GDC?

When did Valve announce Portal 2? Last I checked, until two days ago, they hadn't officially stated that ``more Portal is on the way'' would mean a full sequel.

Beyond that, like I edited my post, the game mags are expecting Valve to announce Steam for Mac at the GDC.

Make your mind up.

You said Valve were announcing Portal 2 at GDC, when they have already announced it.
Unless you were ham-fistedly trying to say that the announcement came so close to GDC that it's practically the same.
Which is, frankly, bollocks.

They've already announced Portal 2. Why would they be announcing it again?

Thats what i getting at.

/facepalm at superluser

Did i not clearly say in my post that portal 2 has already been announced so why would they announce it again?

I am sorry, but you are a moron.

Portal 2 was officially announced, on steam news. They may talk about portal 2 at the GDC, but they aint going to "announce" it because it's already been announced.

Well, that's what ``distinction without a difference'' means.

You're entitled to your opinion that there is some real difference there, but I surely can't figure out what that difference is.

Well, the difference is that the GDC hadn't yet started

The way he puts it is just stupid. "Valve are going to announce portal 2 at the GDC"

1. It's already been announced 2. Devs don't announce games ar the GDC, that's not what it's about

Well, the difference is that the GDC hadn't yet started

I see the distinction there. What is the difference in the final outcome? Either way, Gabe gets video interviews by a bunch of games press people about the game that might otherwise simply ask him for an e-mail interview. People who are interested in some other aspect of GDC check out the coverage and get exposed to Portal 2, which might otherwise be a game they're not interested in.

The way he puts it is just stupid. "Valve are going to announce portal 2 at the GDC"

I never said that. I said Valve ``is announcing'' it--as in, this is an event that has happened in the past, is continuing in the present, and will continue in the future. That's why I used the present continuous tense.

Let's say they do announce episode 3 at GDC, even if thats not a common thing for developers to do at GDC, all you will look so stupid

Guys, this is not a competition. He who correctly guess Valve's intentions does not get any prize. Speculations are just funny ways to wait until Valve clarifies. Don't take this too seriously.

yea they're definitely not gonna announce it this early lol, it probably won't come out till next year T_T
