episode 4: whats the beef?

I heard somewhere on this forum that there was a release stating that episode 4 would be the start of a new storyline. will this be after the combine? I doubt it, seeing as they are an interdimensional empire, it will take a while to beat them. but they say a new storyline, and that implies after the combine are defeated.
discuss.
 
As soon as the outline for Episode 3 is revealed, it'll be a bit more clear.

My thoughts anyway.

"Episode 4" isn't an accurate title IMO. I believe that it will turn out to be a "fourth episode", not "episode four".

If and when it actually happens. Last time I listened seriously to PC Gamer, I believed that the first "HL2 expansion" would be from Alyx's perspective.
 
I really dislike the idea of Ep4 at the moment. It's okay if they want to do it to expand the current rebellion stoyline with further episodes but I don't want a new character-storyline thing. I want HL3 for that. (for new story, not a new character!)
 
The episodes are HL3! Also I think Ep4 would be a good opportunity to show us what happened during the 7 hour war.
 
It was said in an interview that the episodes were HL3, ok? Give me some slack.
 
waita sec, when I think of ep4 I think of some plotline twist, that includes completely surprising elements, p. e. i thought of ep4 taking place BEFORE the combine rule, even prior to the Resonance Cascade, so if ep3 leaves us kinda irated what was going to happen next, like in HL1, ep4 is gonna take us back to stuff that happened earlier than HL², explaining some things that might have been left unexplained at the end of, ep3, maybe what the Gman's purpose is. So, if Laidlaw would include stuff in ep4 that has been kept secret in ep3 and tell it in an other way than we know (Moving away from Gordon's personal adventure), giving us some ANSWERS, it would be cool.
As to my senses, it is absolutely plausible that ep3 won't reveal much, like ep1 did, but the story will be completed with ep4.
 
I think Episode Three will finish the HL2 story and Episode 4 will expand it.
 
Hey, it hasn't even been properly confirmed that episode four is coming out yet. No press release or anything.

Yeah I think EP3 will end the current story arc and maybe cliffhang for the next story arc with the next episodes after that, since it really does seem like Valve are sticking with episodic content, maybe evetually an hour of gameplay per week D:
 
HL³ taking 18 years is a lie :O They could finish the story arc in the same time that hl2 took to develop (including development of the source engine). But, oh bugger, doesn't matter now anyway. I realize episodic content alows them to be some sort of trendsetter, if you imagine that they'll use steam to distribute multicore-support, while other developers are just watching.
Back to topic, I agree with Samon and Cuthbert before him, Laidlaw could give HL a nice plot twist, if they used ep4 to bring in something that SOLVES the story, not only CONCLUDES it. Ep4 will probably be set in a time ahead of HL2, maybe even HL1. I guess they could bring in an 7hour war expansion, or other events like that, just bringing in some good gameplay ideas (of course I'm aware that they do not develop it themselves, rather let Turtlerock do the shitjob.) I once wrote Marc about the third-party expansion problem, and he said that he didn't expect that Gearbox could have twisted op4 so much beyond they're expectations. It was 'taken out of their hands' he said. So, I hope they learn and work closer with the new developer, though I wonder
1.)wether turtlerock (it MUST be turtlerock, they still do work for VALVe with cs:s and have anounced 'a stand-alone title using the source-engine, to be released via...Steam', so it simply can't be someone else to better work with apart from them!) are ALREADY working on the title, cause I haven't heard of any projects they currently work on, in case that VALVe have already given them a script. Oh yes, and told them to shut up about it ;)
2.) What VALVe will do after ep3, if tf:source and the whole HL-series are already concluded then!? They don't seem to find developing ep4 on their own to be neccesary, so that'd raise the question WETHER THEY'LL FINALLY RETIRE?!??!?! Z0MFG, why would they quit after...er, ONLY TEN YEARS OF THEIR LIVES' BEING IN BUSINESS??!?!?!? AHHHH!!! Gabe, plz don't.

And now I require a further indulgence on your beef. I cannot close my resaurant until every garbage bag has been tied up. The biggest embarrassment has been the Black Mesa cafe but I think that's finally taking care of itself ... (a nuclear flash from the destruction of Black Mesa occurs at this point) quite so. But there is still the lingering matter of cutlery. I admit I have a fascination with those who clean up and get paid against all odds ... they rather remind me of myself, and if for no other reason I have argued to preserve you for a time in the fridge. While I believe janitors like yourself understand the importance of mops, my Employers are not quite so trusting, and rather than continually subject you to the irresistible human temptation of eating all, we have decided to ... convey you somewhere you can do no possible ham, and where no ham can come to you ...
