Somewhere in the depths of the Bellevue night, Seattle sirens wailing across Lake Washington, a screen glows amidst banks of humming supercomputers and a single blinking cursor hovers above a button marked 'Upload'. With one click, Episode One is sent spinning into the inter-ether to be downloaded and, when the time comes, to be played.[br]Aftermath is go! Start up your steam client, and you'll probably notice the big newsflash staring you in the face telling you to preload - if there was ever a time to take heed of good advice, it's now. Start Steam to reserve yourself a slice of HL-pie. Must we prod you? Get to it![br]Do I really need to say anything more? Oh, fine: Episode One is a continuation of the Half-Life 2 story out on the 1st June for $19.95 and packaged with Half Life Death Match: Source, and HL2DM. The game will start where the last left off: the Citadel is going into meltdown pending total wipeout, the Combine occupation is disintegrating and aliens are flooding into the dust-choked streets. Click here to watch the trailer.[br] Carry on.

Fine! Happy now?
No! I'm disappointed you folded so easily!

Let's hope this puppy drags me off that sweet powdery addiction called Oblivion.

any chance to see some HLDM:S screenies?

/edit
nevermind, new thread in ep1 section found

Excellent, more HL2 goodness!!

Wonder if I'll get the steam purchasing error again... ho hum
Oh, in case anyone else has grief with it last time I solved the "wrong address" problem by removing the space from my UK postcode.
Hope that helps that person tearing their hair out as we speak (well type)

1st June eh?
Should keep us occupied until the World Cup then....

Cheers,
Krusty

Excellent. Now to wait for the Episode 1 + 2 + 3 package deal, that will make the $20 price tag actually worth it.

Sorry, but $20 for 6 hours of gameplay just doesn't cut it in my book.

When most games priced around $50 can be blown through in about 8 hours?

Whereas $40 for twelve does? Although I suppose you might not have played HL2

EDIT: dangnammit Samon :p

F.E.A.R = 12 = 60$
Quake 4 = 10 = 60$
Half-Life 2 = 15 = 50$
Condemned = 10 = 60$

Avg. Fps game is 12 hours or so and that avg is going to be 10 soon. Crysis confirmed for 10-12 hours. Games arnt made like they use to length doesnt make a good game.

I guess your delusional or cant count tho. $18 for 5-7 hours? Even if it was 5 hours or even 4, 5+5=10 = 40$ = 10$ less then normal F.E.A.R game. Its the SAME thing.

noob.

Holy crap. Is it that hard to put the dollar symbol before the amount? No really.

18 dollars of mine went to valve. Valve, don't let me down, I know you won't..

by the way FEAR and Condemned are $50. Quake 4 is $39 and hl2 is $29. I don't know where you pulled $60 from.

You know that is really picky? I know some people who put pound signs after prices and whilst it is clearly wrong, I don't shout at them about it.

EDIT: To avoid going off-topic, I pre-ordered this and SiN episodes within the last hour. XD How cool is that?

He is going on release price.

None of those games cost $60 on release either. They were all $50. (referring to pc releases, not xbox 360)

Valve will be getting my $18 once the bills are paid and I work out my alcohol/fun budget.

Does it make that much difference?
Didn't think so.

Condemned on release for the 360 was 60$ thats how much i payed for it.

F.E.A.R was 60$ i got the directors edition.
Quake 4 was also 60$ I got the collectors edition.
Half-Life 2 was 90$ for me cause i got the collectors edition but i put 60 because the stand alone went for that much. Opps..The stand alone was 50.

Up look up!

That doesnt change anything my point was still proved.

Done and done. All told it came to $21.05. (I haven't checked the UK conversion, it's probably between £16 and £18).

That's $19.95 with two bucks discount + tax.

Big reason why I don't buy "most games". (And I don't mean piracy. I mean going without.)

HL2 was a calculated purchase. I went for the Silver option, and bought it on an account seperate from my old HL1 one. In exchange for $60, I got HL2, CS:S, DOD:S (eventually, but worth the wait), and a mess of HL1 games. Plus, I could share my old account with a friend and play HL1 games with them. Now that's a deal.
Throw in the anticipated (and now here :D) Source-based mods, and I was looking at a great dollar-to-hour ratio.

But now look at this Episode One business. The price is lower, yes, at $20. But so is the amount of game I'm buying. There's no new engine (unless you count HDR), there's no new multiplayer options, and there aren't going to be any mods that can utilize the E:1 content, because people who don't have E:1 would get illegal access to copyrighted material.

So all I'm looking at here is a glorified map pack, with minimal replay value. It's a very poor deal, in my opinion. Even if it is "Valve quality", I'll hold off until the price drops.

Calling a continuation of the HL story a 'glorified map pack' seems, to me, to be missing the point of the entire exercise.

Pfft, Indiana Jones sequels. Just glorified location...pack...shoots...well, you get what I mean anyway.

No tax or shipping and handling, kids...

$17.95 total.

HLDM:S has a couple of noticeable bugs:

- People turning invisible (frequently)
- Chat text dissappearing on respawn.
