Decision 2004

No, I'm not talking about whether Kerry or Bush gets elected. I'm talking about something much more important... which of the two heavy weights in the Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game arena is going to get your vote.

Both look great to me, I really like the graphics in WoW and EQ2's are nice but require a nuclear powered pc to run smoothly. I'm still undecided which one I should go for, I want to hear some fanboy feedback from WoW ;)

ermm wrong forum...
I think WoW is better, why ? i dunno :p

World of Warcraft is doing a stress test/open beta here soon... so you can see how good it is for yourself. :)

Really when? I can't access the WoW community site for some reason, it says access forbidden :|

I guess they're having bandwidth problems or something. Anyway when when when??? :D

I'm trying to decide which one to get. I even have a nuclear powered computer so I can run EQ2 in all of its glory.

I still want to find out more about it, especially how much the monthly fee is. I am also interested in how much teamwork is involved as well. I don't want to be forced to work in a team to level up, but I want to work in a team if I feel like it.

$15 a month is the plan, groups are required at the hell levels towards the end, but if you play you character right you never need to group although you will gain exp slower.

This week... maybe even today... they're updating their site right now... it just came back up and now has a link to download the game, but you need an account first. ;)

WoW is more my thnag :)

It looks so bright and vibrant, more fantasy than typical D&D.

I cant stand these types of games. Find them super boring.

Thank you for your input! :D

Anyway, Dal, I got to play EQ2; played a dwarf warrior and dinged lvl 17 yesterday I have to say that you have to group for the good xp/loot. Otherwise you just get junk loot most of the time, but it's not like it's a problem - grouping is more fun IMO. :)

I like it a lot, the quests aren't mind-numbing-randomly-generated crap for once and the people are nice. Still... I'd like to see what WoW is like first before hehe.

Letters I can't find the link, are you talking about the stress test client?

Edit: okay found it :)

Aye... you can't download yet unless you had a closed beta account, though.

Played both in all thier glory, playing EQ2 right now which is a fun game but IMO WoW takes the cake just a much more polished game, In WoW when you get in a fight it doesnt take 10 years to recharge up afterwards and little bunnys and deer arent gonna beat your ass in it like EQ2 either. This is a good artilce to read if you wanna compare the two IMO. http://pc.ign.com/articles/560/560055p1.html

be careful... remember, the download they are posting will be a NEW downlaod for the stress test, you may be downloading the old one... i would personally wait for the site to come back up to make sure.

and in my opinion Everquest 2 is better than WOW in GRAPHICS ONLY, and everything else is sub- par. i think EQ gives you more choice, but it is certainly not bigger. WOW has tons of quests, 3 capital cities for each side (horde and alliance), 8 playable races and the entire world to explore. Its magic system is excellently polished, unlike EQ2, which i can garantee will be released early (becasue its been made by SOE). also, the enviroments in WOW are far more varied... in EQ2 all the enviroments look stunning, but once youve seen one plain, uninhabited desert youve seen them all. evern the cities are bland. but in WOW there is a real sense of awe when you enter a city.

when i first caught a gryphin to stomwind its size overwhelmed me... the huge, stone statues of fallen heroes bask in the sunlight as you enter, and the trade district bustles with life from all around. Ironforge is a bewhildering stone fortress, full with people hurrying to the auction to buy and trade, and races from all over the alliance rushing to catch their train to stormwind. night elves, gnomes, humans and dwarves come from far and wide to utalise the huge iron furnase, where moltern lava pours from the tip of the mountain. and lets not forget the beuatiful city of darniciuss, at peace with the trees where the night elves are safely secluded from all outward opression.

And then theres the horde cities. when i began my travels as an undead warlock, i cackled as i entered the deep underground citidel- far beneath the former city of lorderon (that was once the human capital, but was destroyed by the undead). as i walk through the main hall, i can hear echoes of former memories(from WC3 :D ) in the distance i can hear arthus slaying his father, and the city bells ringing when the city was engulfed by the undead. but once inside the citadel the sight is bewildering... green goo oozes from the celing, pulsating into a green river. Leaving for a moment i emerge from the deeps and see a huge zeppellin, towering above, about to set sail through the skies. i climb the tower and jump on it JUST at the last moment, and sail through the undead lands to arrive at the orc capital. completely diverse from the undead city, there is haphazardly built wooden defences and hastily constructed, but strangely cosy huts.

and those are just the cities... marshes, caverns, forests, haunted ghost towns, abandonned mines, crop feilds, unique dungeons, underwater fortresses, dwarvern countryside, tauren plains, deforested trees, barren wastleands and fiery volcanoes are only a snippet of whats to come.

as a beta tester, i can tell you first hand that theres nothing better than to group up with some high level mages and warriors and to storm an orc fortress, slaying and looting and smashing your way further into the dungeon, only to emerge in a clearing with a huge boss... who after a long fight, finally dies and you can all claim the wonderful loot :D

WOW pwns

Yes nicely put WoW does pwn!

Neither is better than the other, it is all about preference.

Any comprehensive previews on EQ2 and WOW? I would really hate to spend $50 (and then $15 a month) on a game I don't like.

I suppose so. I hope the open beta starts before EQ2 hits retail.

Suicide42 it's the Open Beta client :)

And AgentM I think you're exagerating, EQ2 doesn't have a lot of downtime. Less than most MMOs I've played, and if you eat food and drink water your regen rates increase and you just have to wait 45-60 secs between intense fights.

I look at Everquest 2...then I look at Matrix Online...then I look back at Everquest 2 again...then back at Matrix Online. Then I cry.

You totally forgot about Guild Wars. How DARE YOU.
The World Preview Event was stunning!
The Textures were amazing, models were somewhat low detail but with all the insane lighting it made everything look....sooo nice... Pure Amazing!

In really makes you work with your teammates and utilize tactics. At higher levels i could only imagine that you would HAVE to do that. Consdiering there would be so many spells.
It is a real fun game, on how it operatres and everything.
And it dun have a monthly fee

Though I am a long time blizzard fan and if i had to choose between Eq2, and WoW I would go with WoW.

WoW has alot of style in its graphics, it looked like it had alot of lush forests, and everything. EQ2 dosn't seem to have..alot of style in the graphics. Its more geared twords, making them look real..not tword the style. Every blizzard game has style and thats what make the graphics soo nice to the eye. I mean look at Starcraft. Very fun and VERY balanced. All the graphics arn't anywhere near real, but they have alot of style.

is the open beta also for ppl in europe?

because on the site it says open beta is for everyone with a iinternet connection but later it says something about only US etc :/

i wont buy this game anyway because i dont like paying for a game everymonth

but i like to try a morppgwl or something lol a time.

i played guild wars this weekend it was my first online rpg and i LOVED it :) im certainly gonna buy it

Yes, I enjoyed it very much... with my lack of WoW this week, I think I'm going to go see if the Best Buy in my area has the preorder packages so I can participate in the 'beta weekends' (first one this weekend!)... :D

WoW for me, the stress test rules, i like the huge world and the sort of cartoony graphics

Guild wars is too.. well it's too dumbed down. Looks really good though :)

In wow can i be a human and go to an orc city or is it out of bounds?

You can... but prepare to get owned. :p Even on PvE servers, you'll autmatically get your PvP flag set if you go into one of their main cities.

PvP is one, if not the reason I might go with WoW. In SWG after all the mindless profession grinding, PvP was the only thing left; and it was a lot more entertaining than grinding that's for sure.

I just have to wait now, I have the client installed and I'm waiting for Fileplanet to email me my beta key, bastards said they're emailing keys in groups now. :(

Really? I got my beta key right away. I just have to wait for the download to finish. Unfortunately I won't be able to play till tonight.
