It is real-time combat/turn based, more like you hit every # seconds and this dude hits every # seconds, the weapon delay determines that.

EQ2 looks kickass, I had so much fun with EQ that I need to continue.

I agree it looks amazing. Its visual aperance appeals to me more than WoW. So i might invest my money into EQ2 instead.

The combat is real time, you click an action and your character does it. EQ2 is a lot slower paced game than WoW. Slower more group oriented combat, and harder to level. Oh and EQ2 is bigger than WoW, and has more quests.

...It is so easy to sign up for the games...did you have a legal copy?

If only EQ2 had the same combat style as WoW.....

O well ill probally buy EQ2 evn though its slower paced action.

i don't think i'll be playing EQ2. mainly due to the fact that levelling is so hard at higher levels. it's the primary reason why i think WoW will be more popular than EQ2, simply due to the fact that almost anyone with enough time can reach level 60 in less than 6 months. by comparison, in EQ, it would take you 2 months to get from level 50 to 51. it's just too focused at powergamers.

WoW caters for both crowds. there's stuff in there for powergamers, and there's stuff in there for people who'll only play for a couple of hours a day.

anyway, EQ2 does look impressive graphically. just the gameplay that kind of lets it down in my opinion.

It isn't slower paced, there is just more downtime...it is too hard to compare it directly with WoW they are 2 very different games. In WoW if you have a 6 person group you can take out an enemy in under 2 seconds and just keep on going because nothing will ever stop you. If you solo it takes about 15 seconds to take down an enemy and then after a few more you have about 10 seconds of down time. In EQ2 if you have a 6 person group you won't be fighting single enemies like in WoW, you will fight groups of enemies that use group tactics. I am not too sure how long the battles take, but the down time I am guessing would be about 30 seconds. Soloing in EQ2 it would take about 30 seconds to take down the enemy and 10 seconds down time after each one, I am guessing.

WoW brings nothing new to the gameplay of MMORPGs, just the same old stuff. And I think the levels are way too fast, you can get to the max level in 2 months if you really tried(1 month if that is all you do). And then it is just PvP...and once you get bored of that you quit the game.

They have completely revamped the leveling system in EQ2, they say NOTHING will be the same, maybe the same ratios for stats but that is it.

**/gu Damnit, I can't find a group, when is the next raid?**

well fair enough, it's up to you if you don't think much of WoW.

i mean, if you're gonna spend 1 month solid playing WoW just to get to level 60, then you're a bit sad, and if you get bored it's not Blizzard's fault.

some people look at EQ and think, naah it'll take too long to get anywhere. some people look at WoW and say, naah it's too easy i'll get bored in a month. *shrugs*

that's not what i've read, but if you say so.

EQ takes a certain taste, you have to have some know-how about the world to get anywhere, otherwise you will be poor and low leveled most of your time on EQ, but sure, you can get to level 65-70 in no time if you have played the game for 2 years and can tell the amount of time it takes for a griffawn and griffon to spawn at loc 234,-3242,124124.

But with EQ2 it will take atleast 3-6 months for anyone to get the top level, and even longer to get the epic and even LONGER to get the adventures done (If they decide to keep them in the game)

I liked WoW a lot, I am just saying there isn't much new to the gameplay. But it is still tons of fun.

PLus sony will be adding as they go along.

(same with WoW i believe)

Sony will be adding a lot of stuff. Right now they only have the main Island in the game, which is still bigger than all of WoW. They will add the islands to the west and east of it...and probably more after that.

Well WoW has a world. Which is like 4 continents or whatever. I personally dint get in the WoW beta but blizzard has always made great games im sure this one would be a disapointment.

That should keep us occupied eh?

BTW foxtrot, you getting EQ2?

I'm looking forward to the day I can play EverQuest 2.
It may never come though, as I am having less and less time for these things.
And less and less money.
.. ya.

I am getting EQ2 for sure, I might get WoW depending on when it releases.

Im 95% sure ill get EQ2, but if i get that im not goin to be buying WoW. Too much RGPing if you ask me....cause we will also have HL2 by then hopefully.

EDIT: Ok since this thread is slowing decreasing sorta lets start posting what race/class we are interested in!

At first i thought Troll/Fighter looked really awsome but now im leaning towards Human/ranger

Ok, remember what happened with SWG, it had a HUGE world, but the lands were barren and boreing as anything. WoW's landscaping is magnificant and I would rather have a smaller, more detailed world than a gigantic, dry, pos.

from the looks of it EQ2 landscape aint going to be a SWG pos.

good point none the less.

I agree, but the EQ2 team didn't over do it I am sure. I think I am going to be a Kerran Fury.

Have you seen evidence of any of this stuff? Games always say they'll have feature X, but it's never as good as they say in the end.

And I'm sure there will be people at the level cap way sooner than you think there will be.

There are always people who play the game 24/7(multiple people playing one character) and there is nothing the devs can do to stop them(proved with WoW). My proof for the expansions would be Everquest 1, and a few dev quotes...I will get them...here are a few quotes from Moorgard(an EQ2 developer) from the EQ2 forums:
Q____________________________________________
EQ2 however has probably been designed from the get go, to receive expansions that will enhance immersion and gameplay, rather then just add more levels and items and uber mobs.

Bingo. Very Happy

Nobody was predicting the amazing success of the first EverQuest. Remember, Kunark was originally intended to be the only expansion for the product.

Our team has the advantage of seeing how EQ has evolved, as well as how other games have entered the market. Thus we have been able to plan content quite a ways into the future in a manner that makes sense and integrates naturally into the story of our world.

EQ2 is really just the beginning of the tale.

Organized arena combat like this is indeed something that takes a lot of resources to design and implement. We definitely want to do it right, not in a half-baked fashion.

As such, this is something currently intended for an expansion. The goal with our initial release is a polished experience with lots of fun content. Expansions allow us to introduce new features and even more stuff to do.

Well, I'm sure around the time alot of people are hitting the level cap and completing all of the quests, Blizzard will too release an expansion with more land and all that jazz.

Granted, I'm sure WoW IS smaller than EQ2, I like that. It's easy to get around, and doesn't make a person that's starting out feel totally lost.

I don't prefer a world size, as long as there is lots to explore and not too much overcrowding. Also, quests add a lot to the game, one thing is getting to know the area. When I first got to an area in WoW I wouldn't know where a single thing is, but after I finished all the quests I would know everything about the area.

And anyhow, blizzard didnt have the instanced dungeons open in beta, so you gotta figure they are going to play a HUGE part in the game with boss battles and uber lewt.

And from what I understand they are going to be adding housing eventually... so w00tily h00t

Well, what level did you get to anyway?

There are tons of high level areas in WoW I couldn't get ANYWHERE near, simply because I'd die really REALLY fast.

Anyhow, keep in mind the game is still a WIP, and isn't ready for release. They're reworking alot of areas and quests too. I'm sure there will be a few more areas by the time retail hits, many more quests, and more features. And then they'll get to work on an expansion.

I heard the instanced zones are really hard and I group is required, too bad they weren't in the beta.

I would like to say before anyone else decides to post in here, SWG and EQ are TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!!!!!

To anyone who has played EQ knows that if something is wrong, it is fixed, SWG is a rushed out POS that has a bunch of left over programmers working for them.

Another reason why from what ive seen i prefer EQ2 over WoW is the graphics. Not that the WoW graphics suck but EQ2's more realistic graphics i think imerse players into the game better than the WoW graphics would.

Someone is a EQ fanboy... calm down killer, it will be ok.

You would think so, but from playing other games that have tried it, I think it makes things less immersive actually... strange how it works that way, but I feel it does.
