Era of Legends
A Persistant Online-RPG for the Source Engine
from the same project team that brought you
Mastersword for Half-Life, and the newest game
to be set in the popular 'Fatesworn' universe.
Era of Legends is set to be the first fantasy RPG mod
for the Source Engine, built on the same intellectual
property that was used for Mastersword, a world of
fantastic monsters, towering citadels, and mysterious
dungeons. A world where adventure waits on every
street corner, a world alive and teeming with non player
characters, a world where your character can actually
affect the outcomes of the ongoing drama.
Set to encompass the southwestern portion of the
continent of Valen, where players will encounter
elves, dwarves, humans, goblins, and undead against
a tense political environment, Era of Legends will
provide hours and hours or persistant entertainment
on its own, while its ambitious 'Storyteller' events,
known as 'Dynamic Quests,' will continue the adventure
for long after any character feels they have accomplished
all they can.
Features:
Online server-hopping and map-changing without leaving
the gameworld for a totally immersive experience.
Inventory, Quest, and Character management akin to most
RPGs such as Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind.
A robust combat system involving spells, fighting stances,
and special attacks.
Pages and pages of NPC dialogue breathe life into simply
talking with the townsfolk.
A complex faction system allowing a character to align themselves
politically in a tense struggle for power, or even to side with
the monsters and fight other players!
They said a true persistant RPG couldn't be done for Half-Life.
We proved them wrong with Mastersword.
Now we're set to raise the bar again, with Era of Legends.
Now Hiring!
The Era of Legends development team needs the help of quite
a few skilled developers. Though many have made the shift over
from the Mastersword development team (including myself,
the ex-project leader of development and owner of the intellectual
property that is the Fatesworn universe), we need talented and
dependable people to make this game come to life.
With a design document that is over 70 pages long, there will be
no meandering about with nothing to do, or wondering what to do
next. Due to this, we expect development to be much easier than
normal, and development time should be shortened as well. However, it also means we need hard working people.
Positions needed:
Programmer-
Anyone experienced with programming for the Half-Life engine(s) will fit the requirements for this job. Detailed knowledge of using external script files to determine character behavior (such as AI or dialogue tables) is desirable, as well as GUI programming experience. Note that this will likely be the most complicated mod you're likely going to find as far as programming, but also one of the most rewarding experiences you'll likely have as you shape the systems that will run Era of Legends.
Mappers-
The world of Era of Legends needs highly skilled mappers who are adept at creating outdoor terrain with a high fantasy setting. Experience working with Source engine is definitely preferable here.
Modellers-
Modellers for the Era of Legends teams should be able to create realistic models for things like characters (humans, dwarves, skeletons, goblins), medieval weaponry/armor (swords, shields, chainmail), or placeable objects (trees and other such flair for mappers).
Texture Artists-
Texture artists will build the materials that the Era of Legends mappers use to shape the continent of Valen. Knowledge of the creation of Source engine Materials required, knowledge of bumpmapping and other advanced features preferred.
2d Artists-
Graphic artists for the Era of Legends teams should be able to create and apply high quality textures to the models created by the modelling team or be adept at creating 2d GUI icons and sprites (for spell effects, etc). Knowledge of the creation of Source engine Materials required.
Applications should include samples of your work and a description of your past experiences in game design, along with your timezone so that we can figure out how to coordinate team leaders. NO ATTACHMENTS in these emails- upload any samples to webspace and provide links please.
