Erikk's Gabe post is a fake...

Valve has no control of the physical shipping of the game. It may take 2-5 days before we get it out to the stores after the release, depending on where you live. This delay will not happen to the steam version.

Isn't it likely that Gabe answers all his 'fan' mail at the same time, so it isn't a fake. The only reason I say this is that it's not really info we didn't already know.... now if it had said "YES YES Sept 30th" I would have been suspicious :-P

The time/date stamp was also the exact same. That and the capitalization together gave it away. The mods already deleted Erikk's post.

I wish these idiots would stop adding to the misinformation floating around. :flame:
 
It had the same date and time as the email that was posted in front of that post. Which makes us highly suspicious. I think it'd be a good thing just to ignore all Email posted in that thread that may release any info about HL2's release. 99 of the 100 times it's a fake.
 
They are saying the time stamp means that it was sent at the exact same time (within 60 secs) as the previous email... which is unlikely

But as i've already said, isn't it possible that Gabe recieves more than one email at the same time?

edit: I was w*nking on about recieved time rather than sent time, doh!

the sending time stamp and that of the previous mail are very similar.

and its highly possible for it to be fake agreed.

its also possible that in this big ole world with a few hundred million people on the net that someone sent a message to mr newell at the same time too :)

however slim a chance :)

I have to admit I was fooled for a few hours, but I always thought it contradicted what Gabe has been quoted as saying (ie retail stores and Steam on the same day.)

Marks I don't spend every single minute of the day thinking about HL2, I've got other stuff on mind more important than a game. If you could just realize that before posting more sarcastic comments like that I'd be grateful. On second thought nevermind I'll just add you to my list : )

So what you're saying, alco, is that if you change almost all of the letters in Erikk's name, it becomes Fragmaster... Very interesting.

The main reason the post is boll*cks is because the info is completely wrong. Gabe's said about a million and one times that Steam and retail versions are coming out simultaneously. And suddenly he changes his mind and divulges this golden nugget of information to some strange random person on the internet? Yeah that's likely.
Just someone wanting attention and trying to look special.
They certainly came away looking "special" but not the kind of special I assume they'd wanted...
 
I think that we should require any new information recieved via email should have a screenshot of the actual email attached to the post. Of course there are always going to be people who will photoshop it, but this way it just means that they have to do more work to fabricate an email.
 
Yeah, or just instantly ban anyone who claims to have some shocking revelatory e-mail about the release date.
 
Second email is 100% fake.

The first one - I'm not sure. I got 10 emails from Gabe with the same capitalization - "[email protected]" Are you going to say that my emails are fake too? :flame: :flame: :flame:
 
I've got 5 e mails from Gabe...if you write something interesting and original to Him he'll answer.mostly it's yes or no answers but i got one longer...nevermind the point is that 90% emails in Official valve thread are true.Gabe does answer to e mails.I dunno about these 2 e mails form Eric...

if you look in the offical info thread, i posted a mail from valve which stated the exact same info:
valve control steam date, they dont control retail.

(i even provided a scan of the mail in another thread)

so....

crying foul just because some information doesnt fit with YOUR UNDERSTANDING of the situation doesnt make it bullshit.

as for the same send time.
perhaps Valve sends their mail like my system does, it replicates every 5 minutes or so, so anything that is in the outbox goes out at the same time, EGRO people will recieve mail from me with the same send time.

why not just chillax?

Erikk was just an ass.

It wasn't necessarly the capitalization, it was more the time/date stamp together with the cap style. I mean exactly the same as the one before it made it kinda obvious.
