Seriously why is this whole release date being fussed about everywhere

PC Gamer says Valve itself said they have no plans to release till october 2004

and various other places are all saying that valve told them the release date was <insertreleasedatehere>


What do you think Valve is doing?

A. trying to confuse us and end up shocking us or just like to mess with our minds
B. these places are just breathing hot air
C. total guesses by valve and or these internet sites / magazines
D. valve keeps changing the damn date back :dozey:

Seriously, why does not valve just step up to the plate and say: "Stop breathing hot air" if they are.

I know Gabe said: "We make the release date" BUT every single day i check some new internet site, magazine, ect says VALVE told them <Blank> is the ideal release date.

If not why not just stop telling magazines and such, the release date, just make your own darn "This is the new release date" site :afro:

BTW I am not insinuating ANY type of diffrent release date, the authors opinions is that the game will be out by november.

Valve has never told anyone an exact release date yet. So all these companies, sites, new sources feel they need to make up there own so they dont look ridiculous and have something like "Release: Unknown". Cuz God forbid. It's all speculation now. The last date Valve gave us was 9/30, and they missed that. Since then they've said nothing.

valve blew it, but not in a critical way.

yes, we were let down by the delay. now, there are a number of games out that are pretty good (freedom fighters, max payne 2, call of duty (soon), Deus Ex 2 (soon), and Silent Hill 3 (soon), that i don't really mind. When hl2 comes out, i will be very happy. until then, i'll just play any number of good games that i have.

Well CoD comes out tomorrow in the U.S. Dues Ex 2 I am sure will have a HL2 mod. And there are many more games on the market coming soon.
BUT, I think that missing November or December will be terrible because it will cause a small decrease in sales. You know all companies need all the money they can get.

Without release dates though the programmers won't have anything to light a fire under them. If the progress is slow, without a release date, they can say, "Oh it's not ready yet, we're working very hard" and the developer and others really can't dispute it. When there's a release date set and the programmers don't live to one or two of them, their boss has more cause to come down on them, and the programmers have more reason to put in longer hours and work a lot harder.

I work at a programming company and I see it all the time, a release date is just as much for the programmers as it is for the consumer.

So what if Valve makes another announcement on the release date? The last one wasn't worth the imaginary paper it wasn't written on. We'd just end up disappointed again.

I will believe HL2 exists when I have been playing it for three months, then I know I am not being duped or lied to

valve said the holidays or something, so it was assumed holidays/festive season/december

could have meant holidays this week, its half term, halloween etc.

could mean mayday next year, or thanksgiving, could be whenever
