Hi!

When I try to install the HL2 game, i get error 1305 in the middle of the installation, saying that the file "base source shared models.gcf" can't be read. Does someone knows why it happens?

Thanks

Probably the same error that a lot of people have. There is a bug in the installation.

The solution is that you select a full installation that includes Counterstrike: Source.

Hope it works.

Bit late probably, just mooching through some posts and came across yours. I had exactly the same problem.

From what i could gather when i had the problem, it is'nt the disc, it has something to do with the unpacking of the file it is trying to install and windows (firmware was mentioned by someone though i don't know what that is).

I was running the SP2 on XP, someone suggested uninstalling this and it should work. I did this and HL2 did install but then my system was very unstable. I chose to do a full hardrive re-build but did not install the sp2, just all the vital updates through Window Update and SP1.

HL2 now works, though it does still crash on me after 20mins or so. As yet I have no answer for this.

Hope this helps. :E

I'm getting the same error message.. I'm trying to install both CS and HL2.. I installed steam from the CD into E:\program files\ <-- Etc.. I've tried only installing HL2 as well.. Anyone know how to help me? PLease?

Ok. I had the exact same problem and this is what i did..

After I formatted my pc i had to install Half-Life 2 AGAIN of course.. I had the same problem as you (Error 1305 - Can't access base source shared models.gcf ), i know how frustrating it is :(((( I was already prepared to download the whole thing on emule or bittorrent.. But i didn't give up because i had installed it before i formatted so i knew it HAD to work somehow.

1st Step: Check if your cd is scratched or dirty or whatever.. if it's very scratched/dirty i suggest you to clean it smoothly with a piece of cotton with tooth paste (yes tooth paste) and after that take the spreaded tooth paste on the cd with kitchen's deterget (in running water of course) by rubbing it smootlhy with the bottom part of your fingers.
If it's just a little bit scratched try only cleaning it smoothly with a piece of cotton. If you have an appropriate cd cleaner it's even better.

2nd Step: After that restart your computer and don't open ANY program when windows is initialized again. Start installing Half-Life 2 with CS: Source, leave it there (don't use your computer while it's installing).

3rd Step: Cross your fingers and pray that it works like it did with me!!!

4th Step: If it worked don't forget to always keep the cds nicely inside it's case so you don't have any trouble if you need to install Half-Life 2 again.

I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPS AND SORRY FOR THE SH***Y ENGLISH, IT'S BECAUSE MY FIRST LANGUAGE IS PORTUGUESE :upstare:
