Hi, I recently bought Half Life 2.

I have installed the first part, Steam, but after I install Half Life 2, and try to go to steam, it updates, but nothing happens...then this message appears:

steam.exe (main exception): Unable to load library steam.dll.

I've looked on lots of website, even the forum for official half life, done every thing (delete clientblob thing etc) but nothing works!!!

Please help because I want to plaaay :(

Thanks.

Try reinstalling your missing a file.

Where'd you buy it?

i am having the same problem :(. could it be the online regristration thing?

No you are missing a file. Thats all. Go to your steam directory(where steam.exe is) and look for steam.dll. It probably wont be there. You need to reinstall steam.

Tried it.

I've already reinstalled it about 10 times, but it always comes up with that error....

This is happening to me too. I've re-installed everything twice and still, nothing happens.

The steam.dll is of course a Application Extension found in…
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam

Try downloading this and extract to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam
http://www.ihud.com/file.php?file=files/191106/1163949748/Steam,dll.rar

If that fails Uninstall Steam, Delete any files left in C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam
(DO NOT DELETE SteamApps unless you want to install HL2 again)
Install steam again Extract the above file.

Hope this helps.

From memory, when this happened to me I just got my sisters Dll file from here steam account on her PC.

Ok. Thanks for that link. I downloaded it but now when I click on it it says:

steam.exe (main exception): Unable to load library steamUI.dll

Do I have to download that one aswell?

Wow seem like you are missing a few dlls
ok try going in to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam and delete..
clientregistry.blob

If that dosn't work go in to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam
and mark anything on this image you are missing... I have a feeling it's might besome thing else...Lets hope not.

Well. I messed about with some things and when I click on it now and it says it needs to be online.

...Probably because you need to be online....Read the system requirements on the box. Yes, even for single player...

Also, do you even have Steam installed?

Hey I had that same problem sep I went online and had no problem. now I finally can play hl2

Im having same problem.

:rolling::xI am missing like 8 files. These are i think all of them.

dbshelp.dll
CSERHelper.dll
AppUpdate
Steam_14.mst
(File named steam)
SteamUI_2... (Sparda- your pic dint show the full file)
Unwise32
vstdlib

i think thats all of them.. But could you just Post all the important files? If you have these ones. Copy and paste em or something. I think i can get 7 of them, but the SteamUI_2... I need to know the rest of the file name.

Thanks,

Please reply.

And if you want, email me [email protected]

I check my email everyday.:p

Try uninstalling everything (HL2, Steam, everything,) and installing Steam again using the provided downloader. Than install HL2 from disk.

No lol, i wasnt. But it's working now. Just got my internet rehooked up on this computer. The only thing is, I just recently bought a new Video Driver, and it says Driver out of date? And im like wtf? cause i just bought a new one. one of the good ones too... Radeon something something..
just installing CS right now... but ill tell what happens after its done

Yay, I actually have Counter strike but i had the same error as you guys in hl2 so i thought i would follow along. The problem was i wasnt hooked up to the internet because i just got a new computer, and i had'nt hooked it up yet. So thanks, works now, tiny bit laggy in games with 30+ ppl, but i think i know what to do..

Help!

I reinstalled steam and half-life 2 about a bagillion times but it refused to work. it always came up with that stupid steam.exe (main exception)... for steam.dll. i then downloaded it from the net and extracted it. after that the same thing happened with steamUI.dll so i downloaded it from the net again. extracted it etc etc but it doesnt seem to want to accept it. it still comes up with the alert for steamUI.dll please help as it is very needed...

...Probably because you need to be online....Read the system requirements on the box. Yes, even for single player...

Also, do you even have Steam installed?

Holy sh*t I thought Shasta had returned. I thought all his posts were deleted? D:

He was put on global ignore at first, but I guess the mods changed that into a proper ban. Eager Shaz then resurfaced like an unflushable turd in the form of Stucco. Stucco was later Munrowned and likewise bant.

@Hobz - if you have the edition of HL2 that comes with CS:S, make sure you agree to install that as well. Choosing not to causes install probs iirc. Otherwise I dunno.

I have this problem

I have this problem from living in university halls where the facist IT department block everything internet gaming based... they said they would unblock the port for me for an hour if I have them the target name and port but I don't know how to get them... anyone know?

<.> I had this problem... all I had to do was connect to the internet... Double Click Stream Icon, and voila. fixed.

I Was getting these messages about missing dll files and errors then remembered my modem router had a firewall, once i turned that off steam worked normally.

well I was having the same problem but, the only difference was that I was using an IP blocker called peer guardian and that what was keeping it from installing. If you guys are using an ip blocker that might be the cause of frustration.

You might be all blocked by a router and/or firewall.

Hi,
I was having the same problem, and i figured out one of the reasons it happens. If you make a new user on your windows and move steam to that user, for some reason half of your files are lost.

All I had to do was go online and let it update TWICE.
It worked next day.:bounce:

hi,
first i click to setup Half-life 2 and it says you have to setup Steam first. when i setup Steam after it says same error Steam.dll where can i find this folder and remember i didn't install Half-life 2 because first i have to pass the Steam
please help me

Sparda can you send me the Steam.dll file with email or can u give me a link for i can find it. if you can send me i will give my e-mail adress

A) Don't triple post, hit the edit button next time.

B) Uninstall steam and reinstall Steam before you do anything.

C) You can't install HL2 before you install Steam because Steam is the combined auto-patcher/updater/delivery mechanism/unlocker/security measure for HL2.

try running cs or steam when your online...i think this solves all. no re-installation or d/ls required =]

Hi everybody,

First, I'm french and we have the same problem whit this ****ing file :p

(Scuze me for my bad language >_< )

So, this a problem from da router. Yes, i have try to host my TeamSpeak server, but not work X_x
and i've forgotten to set Defaults UDP and TCP ports. So, my router don't open some ports like:

ports UDP 1200, UDP 27000 ? 27015, TCP 27030 to 27039.

Try to open them and maybe you will enjoy :) Thank you.

Steam error

I've reinstalled steam like 50 times & ITS STILL NOT WORKING

Id like a please explain because it works on a friend of mines computer and my cusins but not mine
:angry::angry::angry:

I used to have the same problem, steam not being able to load library.dll. However I was fortunate enough to have a working version of steam on my laptop and I compressed all nessacary steam files into three organized .rar files and uploaded them onto rapidshare.com so I could get steam working on my pc. It worked perfectly. If you guys are still having this problem Id be more than happy to post the links to the downloads.

--something is weird with the steam installer it doesn't install all the files needed only a few of them...then really need to fix that

still having this problem

It would be awesome if you could post that link because, i dont know about the other replies, but I definitely still have this problem....

This problem tends to occur when Steam can't connect correctly to download the needed files. If you have anything running in the background which uses bandwith then disable it. Make sure that all the correct ports are unblocked and that Steam is added to your firewall's exception list.

possible solution

look, there are lots of programs that interfere with steam, im not going to list them all but some of them include certain anti-viruses such as norton and mcafee, and more often than not it is to do with other game clients, especially xfire

FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM

This issue occurs because steam is being blocked by a firewall and can't download the files it needs. In my case it was my new verizon modem/router. You need to disable the firewall or forward ports. It could be a software firewall too. In that case you need to add steam to the exceptions.
