I'm thinking I'll rebuy PS2 and go back to single-player gaming for a while after a long not-so-healthy love affair with World of Warcraft. What games do you guys recommend as "must haves" for PS2?

On my list so far:

Shadow of the Colossus
God of War I / II
Final Fantasy XII
Amplitude
Onimusha (trilogy)
Devil May Cry (trilogy)
Viewtiful Joe
Okami
Kengo: Master of Bushido
Silent Hill (2/3)
Time Splitters: Future Perfect

Am I missing anything? Obviously I won't pick them all up at once, but I'll probably pick up the console + one or two of these games to kick things off.

Those are all great games. Though I still never have gotten around to buying either of the God of Wars. *Someone please kick me in the head for not doing so*.:| I've been sticking to PC games for awhile now myself, not sure how well I can even use a joypad anymore.:P EDIT: If your into JRPG's and haven't already done so, Dragon Warrior VIII was great too.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Final Fantasy X
Psychonauts (Cheaper than getting it on steam ATM)

If you like RPG's pick up one of the Shin Megami Tensei RPG's (Digital Devil Saga/Nocturne/whatever)

Aaaaccceee Coooombaaaaat 5!!!
:D~!
SotC is a must-have, I just talked mah friend into buying it.

Assuming you haven't got it on the Gamecube, Wii or PC... pick up the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4.

Ico
GTA: Vice City
Bully
Fatal Frame series
Siren series

Vice City has better atmosphere. San Andreas has a much better end-game.

If you like... uhm... robots and building robots, then you can't go wrong with the huge part selection of the Armored Core series. My favourite is Armored Core 3, but they all have different things. I suggest the third though because the possible part list is just HUGE.

I love that game. On a side note, I played 'From Software's latest game, ChromeHounds. That totally rocked. Shame it's 360 only 'cuz I could so get it for PC.

Seems like a pretty solid list. The Jak games are pretty fun if you're into action/platformers.

Agh, the only good Devil May Cry was the first one, everything after that is a steaming pile of utter fail,

I preferred the 3rd one. I like being able to just play through a mission on its own rather than have to go through in order to get there for one playthrough :/

3 was so god damn cheesy I wanted to wank into the disc slot just to see if my cheese would mix with the game and make some sort of horrendus Devil Cheese.

Ico & Shadow of the Colossus
SSX - first one
Gran Turismo 4
MGS 3
Okami
GTA's
Tony Hawks 4
PES 6
Fifa/Madden/NHL/NBA 08
Prince of Persia - Two Thrones/Warrior Within/Sands of Time
Jak & Daxter 1
Ratchet & Clank
Katamari Damacy
The Warriors
Viewtiful Joe 2
Devil May Cry 3
Indigo Prophecy
Tekken 5
Virtua Fighter 4
Silent Hill 3/4
Ape Escape 3
Burnout's
God Hand
The Godfather - 8.1 GS
Silent Hill's
Driv3r/Parallel Lines
Fight Night Round 3

Dragon Quest VIII
Xenosaga
Final Fantasy 10/12
Suikoden III/V
Dark Cloud 2
Disgaea 2
Rogue Galaxy
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
Kingdom Hearts II

Get San Andreas for the PC so you can play it online with http://www.mtavc.com

Also, you can't forget Soul Calibur III.

I myself am getting We Love Katamari, Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, and the newest Shin Megami Tensei, hope theyre good

soul calibur II > SC III

SC III sucked IMO :|

Also time crisis is epic as well.

SC III was horribly imbalanced. . .. DC Soulcaliber still owns all.

but anyways, Sly Cooper is lotsa fun, Viewtiful Joe, and my personal favorite, Kingdom Hearts (love it or hate it game).

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys, I almost forgot about Ico, Freedom Fighters and some others.

And Polaris, you seriously think I haven't played Half-Life before? :O

+1 for Ratchet & Clank games

All other game devs. should take note from Insomniac on how to add kickass replay value to games.

After beating the game you unlock Challenge Mode.

Challenge Mode = harder difficulty + all previous equipment + a bunch more upgrades for weapons and armor + new weapons + kill-based multiplier.

I think the PS2 is a pretty disposable console. I've never thought too much of it or its games. The one exception is We Love Katamari. It saved my marriage, then it pushed me out of the way of a speeding car. And now we're having an affair.
I'm one of the ones who hated it. I don't see how it got so popular.
Anything with Disney in it is a cheap alternative to Estrogen tablets. At least, that's why I got it.
Maybe you haven't play Decay, it's quite fun.
I can't get past the second mission. True Story.

3 was so god damn cheesy I wanted to wank into the disc slot just to see if my cheese would mix with the game and make some sort of horrendus Devil Cheese.

Oh yeah, the cheese is definately there.

DMC4 is looking like a good game though.
