Eternal-Silence 2, a fairly well-known science fiction / space combat modification, has just released version 2.0 of their public beta.

This is still a beta, and while we can guarantee it plays a lot better and more stably than Beta 1.1, there are still bugs in there. We have committed to frequent patches this time around, however, so expect to see a quick response to issues and new features coming soon. In fact, the next patch is already planned and we will begin work on it soon, after a bit of a rest, of course.

They've also compiled a small trailer that you can see here on YouTube. Check their forum thread or their website for more information on Beta 2 and the mod in general.

I always wonder why modders don't include a link to their changelog together with the downloads. It makes it easier to check if that what annoyed you in the previous version has been fixed/modified.

Anyway, good luck to this next beta :)

Puffypower was a REALLY fast download for me to get 2.0, like 900ish KB/sec

That's because there's a hell of a lot of changes between Beta1.1 and Beta2 that it would be like pages long.

For all of our patches we do changelogs.

The mod "feels" more soild this time around. You can tell there was quite a bit of polish and performance/gameplay tweaks that went in. Just wish there was more obvious ways of entering an enemy or ally hanger. I found where to land only once after circling a few times. Maybe if possible an automated sequence where your craft lands for you if you are close enough to the hanger would be helpful.

much better then the previous version
ground combat still needs work though

Is there a single player component? Or is it mult only?

We are working on a number of fixes, and giving the player somesort of onscreen landing lights has been suggested. Expect the change to be implemented in a patch soon!

Edit: And an automated sequence was also suggested and we will probably include that also.

I absolutely adore this mod. It really feels polished and that is has some substance to it this time around.

Kudos to the entire ES team.

Love it, but there is still a big problem with the gameplay, it tends to get very spread out. Some people going infantry others flying, which is especially notiecable on the new astroid field map. Which would have imho been an amazing map if it was pure flying, no infantry. So you would capture stations by blowing something up or similar.

Otherwhise its great fun, and the flying is topnotch as usual, even though it feels much slower now than in beta 1.

Troop transport and Heavy ships added and better infantry combat. I'm definitely going to download this new version and give it a whirl. If the inf combat is better suited to the scenario then it'll be great, but if, after flying across a map to the enemy ship for 20 seconds, my combat experience still lasts approx. 0.5 seconds then I'm gonna have to put this down again until next update.

Looking forward to trying out the new changes, though.

Working on just that for the asteroid map right now actually. Expect to see it come out in a couple of days :afro:

Sounds awsome, because that map is really great fun for dogfighting but when some lazy-sneaky-bugger just lands and captures your base while your out dodging missiles and puffs off smoke it really ruins the whole map. If it could be 100% where you basically just blow something up to "capture" a base it would be seriously kickass :)

Oh and the new Aethra map is a wee bit empty now without the astroids, maybe add something to spice up the space, wrecks or something like that?

Looks fantastic.
Only problem I've ever had with the game, was the ridiculously long warning advisories. YOU'RE ABOUT TO EXPLODE AND YOU'RE GREETED WITH "A....lert......Hull......breach......detected......"
