The problem with space, right, is that it's really big. This means communication, even at lightspeed, is very slow. In the time it takes a star's light to reach us, millions of years may have passed. In the case of this newspost, which I'm sending from the non-planet Pluto, there may be a slight time delay (apologies to Mr Eagle). Are we there yet?[br]Eternal Silence is a mod set in space, complete with space-ships, space-guns and, presumably, space-bars. With the simple three-step mantra - fly ship, land ship, fight - it's never been easier to battle your way aboard your enemy's capital ship and gut it from the inside. The real kicker: Silence is very near release.[br]EDIT: Some odd technical problems mean only one picture is working. You can find the rest on the Eternal Silence website.[br]

[br]In this eternal silence of the spotless void, each player's exploded, and each ship destroyed. Do you see what I did there? Look out for Eternal Silence: coming soon to a www.eternal-silence.net near you!

This is the sleeper source mod. its gonna blow everyone away when it comes out and make all the other fps mods pale in comparison. FLYING FREAKING SHIPS landing them and battling? awsomenesssssss

holy crap looks amazing!!

Cant believe I never heard of this mod untill now. But it is of course a nice surprise!

Flying the ships is really hard.

Everybody say hi to our very own Iced_Eagle! (furthest to the left :D)

Anyway, Samon pretty much summed up my feelings toward ES.

Haha <3

6Three: I'm curious, did you fly with Newtonian or Arcade physics (as in, if you let go of the throttle did you continue to go forwards, or did you stop immediately?)

Either way, I think that flying will take people a few minutes to get used to. The hardest part will be landing and taking off (this is going to be addressed in a later patch).

I think one thing that needs to be said, that even though we really don't advertise it, this will be a beta (but in all honesty, which mod isn't a beta? Some just lack the sub-title). When we release later this month hopefully, we really want everyone's feedback because we are going to have a very regular post-release releases.

Either way, I hope everyone loves ES, and I can't wait to frag some of you guys in space! ;)

IIRC it was Newtonian. The inverted controls always get me, but I'm sure it will be fun as hell when I master it.

Sorry it took so long, good thing you said something, ES is really coming along nicely.

Well that was probably why it was so hard! :p

To start, I recommend people start on Arcade mode. Also, the Controls menu allows you to invert or un-invert your controls at will (also set up Joystick options if you have a joystick).

Newtonian is only for once you sort of learn the basics of space flight and want to do fancier things.

Ah, cool. I didn't see an anti-invert options, thanks!

Can they really hear you scream?

If a tree falls in the forest but nobody is around to hear it, does it still make a noise?

BTW, we are working on a trailer now and we will have it in your hands soon... No time frame, but I will let everyone know the second it is made available.

Looking very nice. Cant wait to give it a try.

cool work, can't wait for the trailer!
I hope to see gameplay in it :)

*Keeps an eye on Eternal Silence*

They really need to work on the soldier's(or what ever he is) face. Other than that, Eternal Silence is looking great.

This is looking really good. I've had my eye on this one for a while, and I cant wait!

Weird, the links do not work on the hl2.net front page, but they do here in the forum.

Something I been wondering is, if this is gonna mix capital ship, fighter/bombers and boarding action, are we gonna have like 50 players per team? I have seen thigns like this done before in for example Galactic Conquest to BF1942 (well to a lesser extent, but still) and mixxing all of the above in the same map never turns out good as there is not enough people to do all things, especially since some just wanna fly around because its kewl, some jsut wanna win and use all shortcuts they can get to win etc.

So err my question was, does this mod try to focus on one thing per map, or focus on 1 objective at a time. Lets say first you need to take out a shield gen and that is dogfighting only etc, or is everything accessable at all times? Having all objectives open at the same time isnt really a good idea as far as i seen, it jsut spreads everyone out and removes all sense of a battle, and usually ruins otherwhise awsome mods and maps

We have been able to have full gameplay with some pretty intense battle with only 6 players on the test server, 3 per side. The way the battle is split up is that space is only a transition between the 2 infantry portions, once a successful landing is mounted, the game switches to FPS only. Also our indoors maps are not that big. Imagine mixing Unreal Tournament style domination with a space sim outside, it works great and its nothing like I've ever played before. I hope you guys will enjoy it.

So if I understand you correctly once one of the ships are boarded its no more flying at all until the boarders are repelled or the ship is lost and its game over? Meaning its sort of what I tried to explain with the objective thingy?

And playing live with random people is waaaaay differant from playing with a couple of testers, was the same in Galactic Conquest (Star wars mod for BF1942). We had great battles in space and on our space station with testers, however once we got live it turned into space station camping etc not at all like we experienced it during testing. I just like separating the flying and the fighting some, so that you can focus on one at a time.

Because some people will always want to fly, no matter what and thus forcing some of the more team oriented players to stay behind making sure you dont loose your cap ship because noone else can be arsed. If you for isntance HAD to destroy something on the capital ship with fighters before boarding everyone could have the space battle experience the first 5-20 mins of a round, either manning gun turrets or flying. Once the generator would be down you would have to focus more on fighting inside the ship etc.

Oh and the space map you have its 2 static capital ships against each other, both are attacking the others right? I mean not one ship defending and one attacking, that will also add to people being spread out, promoting "rambo" play. However I haven't played it yet, so i will have to see how it plays once its out, just voicing some of my fears that could ruin an otherwhise awsome looking mod.

Man am glad to hear its almost done. I remember reading about ES a few years back before hl2's release. Now its almost show time! can't wait!

This isn't galactic conquest.

Never said it was, just voicing concerns. I just hope this mod will kick a fair ammount of ass, HL2 needs it. And it sounds like it can be loads of fun, and would be sad to see it ruined by lack of focused battles where people are spread out or have to spend a whole game babysitting their capital ship because someone just might land and destroy it while the rest of the team is out flying.

It does look rather awsome though and I have high hopes for it.

Going to be interesting to see how space combat in source will be.

If the gameplay ain't perfect, we will tweak it. This isn't going to be anywhere near final. Its gonna crash, its gonna act weirdly and its prolly gonna piss you off here and there, but we hope you guys will see the potential behind it, provide us some good feedback so we can make our game better.
