newbie here. just wanna ask you guys what do you think of EVE online? i heard its very addicting?

I tried a trial of it and it wasn't what I was looking for. I was hoping for direct flight control and good combat but it's all point and click. You click "orbit" at a certain distance and activate your lasers or whatever you have and let it fire away until you win or lose (basic battles anyways). Because of that I didn't play more than a couple hours.

i played it also. trail that is.

its economicly driven. fighting is pretty simple and travel time can be painstakenly boring

Earth and beyond was better. I say was as it died.

Try it. If the pacing of the game suits you (there is travel time, which I loved because it let me do stuff while i played) you may become extremely addicted. And that's not entirely in a bad way since you dont need to play to train skills, allthough you do need to play to get cash.

It's a very addicting and extremely well made game. The graphics are damn nice too.

It's not like a proper space game where you fly the ship in whatever direction you want. Most of the time you're setting a waypoint then hitting autopilot.

Get a trial from the website.

I have played it before, and I thought it was fun all those months I spent with it. :) You should try it out, it's not a very exciting (although it's always exciting when you buy a new ship and blow pirates into oblivion ;)) game but it can last very long if you are into these kind of games.

Here are some very cool videos you should check out.

This game is really beautiful.

Fools, Eve is a slow burning utterly addictive and beutiful game. The big thing is JOIN A CORPORATION! Thats when the game takes off, the people you meet are nearly always thouroughly decent people who are more than willing to help you out.

Things really take off once you get a decent enough frigate to participate in PvP, Everything about eve is geared towards PvP industry exists to build ships for those who participate in it.

Its because of Eve that I left counter-strike for good you just have to give it more than 5 minuites play but the possibilities are endless.

played the trial (15 days i think) and it's fairly awesome.

Playing City of Villains though.

EVE is pretty good but what i dont like is the navigation system, If you want free control and better fighting combats, buy FREELANCER.

I downloaded the trial, did all my stuff and so on...

But I had to get a new ship to blow up pirates! So I asked in the noobie chat "Anyone spare some money so I could buy a new ship?"

I instantly got tons and tons of mail, recieving about 600,000. It was the nicest community I ever met. :)

Sadly, I couldn't get the full game, and I was put off by the extremely long training times - otherwise it was perfect. :)

eve online is not a point shoot fly around like crazy kind of game, it is very slow game, which is the kind i love.

Wow, I knew the community in this game was very nice, but this? That was nice of ém. :)

Yeah, that's why I fell in love with EVE the first time I've played it.

OOoooh, a nice community is an essential :D

lol, when i was playing the trial i was going good myself and this guy flows over to me while i'm sitting there doing some mining and he just starts talking and being friendly, than he goes off and leaves me a present, that present being like 300,00 for a new ship i was saving for which i mentioned to him.

seems either nice of him, or later in games you have a overflow of cash, dont know which.

Its just that at the start of the game, 300,000 isk is a fortune that takes forever to amass, but later in the game, 300,000 is pocket change.

Heh, I remember playing the game once which I and a bunch of friends from my corporation was mining some asteroids.
While we were all mining and talking which each other, a bunch of pirates warp in all of a sudden (the pirates are a bunch of NPC-ships that usually warps into the asteroid-belts from time to time, in higher security systems, the pirates have very weak ships which you can destroy without any much of a trouble, but on lower security systems they are much stronger and they almost always fly around in cruisers and frigates. Sometimes they even have battleships I heard, though I've never seen a pirate in a battleship myself. They usually patrol warp gates as well.).

My mates takes out their drones (small NPC-ships which guards you from enemies that attack you) and set them to destroy the pirates.
I see that I have a medium rail gun with antimatter as ammunition, so I start firing at them.
But a couple of seconds later I hear hell break loose, my friends just yell "MOVE THE **** OUT!!", and a cruiser starts to fire at me and my shield go away in a couple of seconds. I panic and warp out, but I was in a cruiser myself so it moved slowly and my armour was almost vanished. Luckily I warp out as soon as the pirate starts to penetrate my hull.
At last I warp to a safe spot and see all my mates hanging out there all pretty much damaged themselves except one guy that lost his ship due to the pirates. So he flew around in space in an escape pod and angry like a wasp.
Luckily he had insured the ship. :E

Very fun game. :)
