If so, which ones?

Me personally, I have been on the atkins diet before, and it does indeed work if you stick with it.

Your hunger when on it virtually ceases to exist, you have more energy usually, and shed weight other than water weight. In fact, you lose most of your excess water weight in the first few days, yet the pounds keep on falling off.

Also, what could be better than being able to eat beef and other meats and cheeses liberally? Sure, lots of things you gotta sacrifice, like refined things, but its still worth it if you're looking to lose weight. And Contrary to what people may believe, it doesn't raise your bad cholesterol. When I started the diet, and ended many many months later, there had been an improvement in my cholesterol levels, not a decline.

Anyways, enough rambling.

What Miccy said. If anything, I could gain a few pounds.

*Goes off to eat vigorously*

I went from one extreme to the other basicly....I was getting kind of big, then now I'm really small.

meh, whatever. I choose skinny.

Heh. It's funny. Gamers are either overweight, or underweight. Simple exercise would help both out... the overweight to build muscle to burn fat, and the underweight to build definition.

I wouldn't consider myself underweight really...but certainly not over ;)

I'm neither, I'm comfortably alright :)

I am currrently on a bulking diet, 3500 calories made up of lots of complex carbs, lots of protein, lots of "nice" things that taste stale and nasty.

It is working as my weight is going up, on Monday i was 231lbs and gaining about 5lbs a week :)...of muscle :).

I used to cycle about an hour per day as well as go to the gym for an hour afterward. Never could really gain any weight though.

You need to build some huge muscles like i am doing, then those chavs won't bother you, He-Man ;) :naughty:

Cycling is more effective for losing weight, not gaining it. Except maybe for leg muscles. Strength training is for effectively gaining muscle. Lifting weights, etc. Though, I figured you did that, since you also said 'go to the gym'

I go to the gym :) and I can bench 60kg :D

Not too shabby.

Yep, I realize that. It was more for overall body fitness and aerobic training. Plus it's one of my hobbies.

Ya, I did quite a bit of strength training as well. I keep telling myself I should get back into it one of these days.

I do exercise, I work 4 hours a day on a farm, but I still only weigh 140 lbs (I'm 6'2").
I eat plenty of meat, I'm a bread-a-holic, all that good stuff, but it seems whenever I eat more I lose weight.
It's bizarre. :borg:

Its good that the Atkins deit is working for you, but it can also be a very dangrous to youre health if not executed properly, I personally think all the tv shows and books going on about how great it is dont emphasise this enough.

Nice one. :)

Dunno what I can bench.... I havnt actually done that in ages. I just do pressups these days... since my brother took his weights... :P

Last time I did was about 2 years ago and I could lift 55 as I remember. And I have been doin shitload more exercise recently.... yeah... I'm happy with myself right now :P

Im 6'11" and 155, i could lose a little weight and gain some muscle.

:) Okay, what exactly IS the Atkin's Diet?

Anyways, I started exercising like since Winter Vacation, so in December. I'd say mild work-out. What I do is I do 100 sit-ups and 50 push-ups a day, and I run like 1 1/2 a mile a day. I can feel some sore spots, so I guess this method is workin' for now. I can probably push myself harder, but i'll just go with the same routine and up the numbers up a bit maybe after every 2 weeks or month. Oh yeah, I eat a pretty ideal breakfast, usually toast, a little bacon, eggs... the usual. For lunch I eat a big ol' salad, I have skipped dinner for the past 3 days though... because I just wasn't hungry, but usually it's really really light; little bit of rice(i'm asian) and whatever else. Also, after all that I top it off with lots of fruit. I also only drink milk and water now as well... unless I go out to a party and get drunk or to a resturaunt and drink some soda or whatever.

I'm 5'4 and 145 lb. The men in my family tend to be really masculine, it's weird so we can easily get fat and it is also harder to lose weight. Maybe I should lift weights or something?

Not me actually, I'm in the range of 'just right' according to NG. But the atkins diet is unhealthy. you'll die early of kidney disease. don't overeat or underexersize. and eat breakfast. ive been on that diet since 1st grade, and im at a healthy weight.

Untrue. Been used by fitness people for a long time before it was popularized by the doctor. My father used to bodybuild on that style of diet years back, too.

Just east once a day and workout works best

I have never gone on a true diet, it isnt as much loseing fat, as it is gaining muscle that I try to accomplish. I was ripped during the summer but when football season started it all wasted away because there was no time to do serious lifting. I started again last monday and damn have I got a long ways to go before I am my old self again.

i could do with putting on weight but because of something......i actually cant really.

I eat two dinners a day, breakfst, something before bed and snacks (and choclate, etc)...Dont excercise all that much - used to but time pressures got to me so i have to get back in gear...

If you just eat a HEALTHY diet and excercise. you shouldnt need to go on any extreme/crash diets cos they will probably *^&$ you up good.

Apparently, atkins is good to lose weight, but for prolonged time, it doesnt keep it off.

The best way to deal with weight, is regular excercise; consider a sport, go for runs (+20 mins), or go to the gym... unlike just losing weight, these buff you up a bit and make you hawt :p hehe

Didn't Dr Atkin's die from his own diet?
I'm sure it only became popular after that.

It's actually pretty good to keep the weight off if you change your lifestyle. You won't instantly bloat up after going off it. Its all about your habits.

Funny thing though, I was on the diet for a long time, lost quite a few pounds, then went off... since I was at a good weight. I gorged one day on junk food at a party, put on about 10 pounds and then went back on the diet for about two weeks and they came right back off with ease(and not just the water weight.

He didn't die from his own diet. LOL. Thats just anti atkins diet propoganda, seriously. I mean, i'm very objectional to many things about the atkins diet, but from my own experiences, it hasn't been unhealthy for me, even beneficial actually regarding my heart and cholesterol levels.

Agreed. I been doing alot of weight lifting lately, and its easy to see changes quickly, especially in the biceps and triceps. For those who are put off by exercising by not seeing rapid results... if you do it properly, getting to the 'burn' stage of it, and letting them rest adequately, you can notice quite a change in just a week easily.

Atkins is a low carb diet, right?

Yeah, you eat lots of meat instead. Sounds delicious, but apparently your breath smells like rabbits when you are on the diet (my sister's did).

You should have done it the other way around, when you do things such as cycling or running beforee you weightlift then you wont gain any muscle (well you might gain very little)
Also

Many of their products reallly help

Yes ketosis (the state your body goes into on low carb diet) causes your breath to be quite foul, of course it disspitates with time

This is absolutely right, the only problem is as a side affect your metabolism slows to a crawl. Its also just as effective and less costly than eating on the atkins or the south beach diet.

He slipped on an icy sidewalk and hit his head on the concrete, died a while later. This was not even that long ago.. last year maybe.

Sorry, by afterward I meant in the evening. I cycled in the morning.

I've never been on a diet; I just try to keep a healthy lifestyle. The things I really enjoy doing are unfortunately not physically demanding and I have to compensate with exercise. So I try to get in about an hour of good running per day (hour in the morning or an hour at night). Then I do some work with weights (just toning stuff, nothing serious mainly because I don't like the big look) for about half-an-hour. I don't eat a ton of food, but I do follow a schedule for my meals, and what I prepare is pretty healthy. I went through a fit of really liking Dr.Pepper, but I've gone back to drinking pretty much water alone. It’s worked quite well for me.

Who needs the atkins diet when you have a carving knife?

Answer me that Mr President.

you've gotta be careful with that though, having a "bouncing" weight can be unhealthy

What kind of exercises can you do without having to leave the house, not including push-ups? Yes i'm a loser, not a fat one, a slightly underweight one, sue me.
