I just finished tonights playing and I realized one thing that bugged me pretty much. When you're running around with your squad (for example in the chapter "Follow Freeman") they sometimes talk to you, right? Like "Reload, Dr Freeman!" or "Wait for me!". So far so good. But one think that is very enoying is when you meet someone who actually have a role in the game, like Barney (who u meet in "follow freeman") and he doesn't seem to "see" the squad at all! He even talks while someone from the squad is talking. I mean comeon, they're suppose to be civilans who wants to help me (and Barney, and everyone else). Why won't he acknowlage them?

I think it would be more realistic if he 1) saw them at all and 2) maybe even said a word to them. Like "nice to have you with us!" or something.. it's the same with Alyx, she doesn't see them either.

It feels like I'm running around with a bunch of invisible people :p

That's right. You can't use your squad to anything, only the snipers kill them before they kill you.

100. post:D

I noticed that too. You're right, that would've been a nice touch

yeah... right now they just feel useless, since they don't do much good either. Sometimes I hear someone shouting "Got one!" haha. But that's about it. Hmm.. feels like I have an email to Gabe coming up ;) Need some answers here!

I found my squad very useful in the larger firefights. They would take cover, combine fire to take down soldiers, pick up better weapons... overall do a decent job.

more reason for Barney and Alyx to acknowlage them!

Yeah... that's a point, actually. Never really occured to me at the time, but now that I think of it I miss the "banter" that characterised the first game so much.

Perhaps they thought that since Calhoun and co. are actually proper NPCs now (as opposed to generics), it wouldn't work. Or something.

Barney is better and he knows it. He's not going to stoop to their level :p

The banter from HL1 has kind of been replaced by the little one-liners you get when you 'talk' to a squad member with E, to which one of the others will usually respond in turn. I'd much prefer if they just talked randomly, and talked to Barney and Alyx too. The 1st time I went through the game it didn't even occur to me to try to talk to them, and so they seemed to be kind of silent mannequins.

Isn't this one of the things VALVe said they would work on with Aftermath and Alyx? Or maybe that was just NPC to player communication?
