is it any good for half life 2
and what is generaly better
9800 pro 128 mb or 6800 128 mb

Both will be good but it depends on a few things, including price.

The 6800 is better but not always. The 6800 has a 128Bit memory bus while the 9800Pro has a 256Bit memory bus. It depends how much you use AA/AF, what you play and how much more the 6800 will cost you.

Of course if you play Doom3 all day then the 6800 is the card for you. Link
Don't take this to mean the 6800 is extremely advanced, as blahblahblah has said before the only DX9 level effect was the heat haze for D3. The 6800's were built for D3.

The 6800 beats it over the head with a baseball bat from what I've heard.

The X800pro beats the 6800 over the head with a bat as well but we are comparing two cards that are not at the same price point.

The X800 Pro might crap on the 6800, but the 6800 GT will rip the X800 Pro's heart right out of it's chest.

does anyone know what the overclocking/upgrading prospects for a 6800 are? i've just ordered one and i'm not sure if it's the right decision :-S

I know what a 6800GT is capable of, I have one. It's a good card. ;)

What are the prices you are looking at between the 9800Pro and 6800?

Talking about vs.. what about R9800XT vs G6800? :naughty:

Asus you cant use those benchmarks. Everyone knows the x800 beats the 6800 in half life 2.

hehe I was somewhat being sarcastic.
The 6800GT doesn't crap all over the X800pro but it does do better overall. My point was that it wasn't the same comparison we had been talking about.
I was just poking fun and showing benchmarks where the X800pro really stood out. :)

And I wonder how that got posted twice. :\

a 6800nu is only 128? i thought it was 256 and the 6600 was 128

Never said it were going to crap on the x800 Pro, said it were going to rip it's heart out. There's a difference :dork:
(Just poking around)

yes you're right! I dont know why people got the idea its a 128bit memory bus card as its the exact same architecture as the 6800u but with only 12 render pipelines instead of 16! It only has 128mb of memory though which is no big deal.

You're thinking of the 6600 Asus, the 6800 is 256-bit.

Oh that's right.
The performance dropped quite a bit while using AA/AF and I was thinking that is why. I bet it's the memory speeds then.

The 6800's clock speeds are 325 core, 700 memory. But one newegg some of the 6800's read the memory as 770mhz, they must be overclocked.
