Experiences with Weird Phobias

It sounds like some of you dont really understand what a phobia is either. I know it technically means fear, but its really much more than that. Since there are so many variations and levels of severity I dont really know how I would go about explaining it, so heres how wikipedia puts it:

A phobia (from Greek: φόβος, phobos, "fear"), is an irrational, intense, persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.

I guess thats fairly accurate. Being near the source just causes the onset of severe anxiety, so people with a phobia naturally avoid the source to avoid this terrible feeling. I dont know if that helped but just know that phobias are coupled with severe anxiety.

Found mine on that phobia site:

Catagelophobia- Fear of being ridiculed.

Edit: OP asked about experiences with weird phobias, with me if I'm walking down the street and see people walking towards me in the distance, I'll usually cross the street to avoid them. I had self-esteem problems growing up, not so much anymore.

I'm afraid of all creepie crawlies, and irregularly patterned/lined objects (aka broken windows, parched ground, they make my head burn)

None that I can think of, though due to a SCUBA accident a few years ago I was terribly afraid of being underwater for a while...

Claustrophobia, unfortunately. My siblings like to trap me under blankets and such frequently. It's really annoying.

No phobias as such, but I don't initiate conversations with strangers. Also, I simply cannot make small talk. The only conversation I am comfortable with is technical stuff or current events.

My only big phobia is having my throat slit which is a pretty reasonable fear I think. But I can't close my eyes in public if my neck is exposed. If I take a nap on a couch or something I have to cover my neck with a sweater.

I used to have a really bad fear of falling, not heights in it self, but falling from them - The the point where I wouldn't get on swing sets and stuff thinking I'll slide off and die in some dramatic way.

I'm not so bad with it now, but I still try to avoid climbing ladders or rail-less, rickety-ass things. I don't consider it a phobia because I don't hyperventilate and freak out like I used to.

I'm climbed from the 2nd floor the 3rd floor of a big atrium because the upstairs doors were locked over the weekend. It was pretty exhilarating.

"I'm gunna slit this f*cker's throat......... wait, is that a turtle-neck? Meh, nevermind."

Scared of needles, fine with dental needles though.

This is a really dumb phobia, but I am scared of being caught in public without a toilet nearby. Have you ever been stuck on a bus or public transport or in public needing a really bad shit but nowhere to go?.

I think it started after I had to walk for ages then get on the slowest public bus ever to get home needle a dump badly.

So basically if I go somewhere and I don't know where the nearest bog is I get anxious, which doesn't help the situation. Its pretty pathetic TBH. :)

Lachephaphobia; The fear of not finding the receipt for a faulty electrical item.

Yeah most of this stuff is normal... any sane person is gonna freak the **** out if they turn around and there's a tarantula on their desk or if you're really high up with nothing stopping you from falling except your balance. Same can go for sharp objects, being trapped, other gross bugs that wouldn't hesitate to poison you...

I don't think I've ever known someone with an actual phobia.

I once tried to face my phobia of snakes by going into a room where there were several different kinds. The moment I stepped into the room I felt very sick, dizzy and faint and I was trembling all over. In fact, I was so petrified I was nearly crying, and this was just the year before last, making me 15. I actually managed to look at two different types of small snake (I still felt like I was going to faint, though). I t was only when I saw a large tank in the corner that I really freaked out properly because I could see two pythons in the tank. After that I refused to set foot in that room again.
Just recently I went to this animal park and walking past a building I peered into a tank in the window, not knowing what was in there. And, yep, sure enough there was a snake in there. It was strange though because all the other people looking into that tank couldn't see it. Maybe I could see it because of my aversion to snakes. Whatever it was I couldn't think of much else all night.
My phobia also causes me to have really petrifying nightmares about snakes. Sometimes they're so bad I wake up in a sweat. The snakes in my nightmares seem much more scary than in real life.

I keep thinking this thread is "experience with phobie". Then I see lots of replies and think daaaaamn girl.

any bugs in general if I think it landed on me while I'm trying to kill it. Bees crickets and spiders mostly. And spiders I mean larger than a dot kind.

Monotoidestaliphobia- fear of having to play the iron in Monopoly.

I have a fear of flying. Like when you look up at the sky, I feel like I'm forever falling towards it. But wait, that's vertigo.

Haha, how many people really suffer from this? Honestly? I think its interesting how the most obscure phobias have official names when some of the more common ones dont. Do any of you have phobias that dont have official names?

Holey shit.. i have the same phobia.... i wonder if there is an actual name for it?

I have something similiar but nowhere near as bad ..I just get the heebeejeebees if something is touching my throat

btw those with irrational fear of insects ..do you scream like little girls when confronted with a ladybug etc? my friend does, he's knocked over tables (along with the beer jugs sitting on it) to get away from a bee ..it's funny his scream starts very shrill at first and then turns more manly as he realises he just screamed like a girl
